    Friendly tip use the water pump bolts as cam handles - they screw right in.

    Duuuuude, that cam bearing! What a kick in the nuts when the short block is basically together. Glad you were able to get it figured out and fixed.

    I’m late to the party, found your video because I am dealing with the same issue on my LM7 build. Luckily I am putting in my cam first, did you end up replacing the cam bearing or did you fix it in another way. Curious, if I can pull it out to seat it differently or if the bearing itself needs to be changed again. Thanks for the great content. Glad to know I’m not alone.

      I ended up replacing the bearing, it wasn’t worth trying to reuse for how cheap they are lol

    Where did you get those lifters from. I am doing my first Ls swap. Ls3/6L80 in a 03' Crown Vic Police Interceptor. Lifters are what I am unsure of. They like to fail. I am looking for a good set.

    Hey man, thanks for the video. I just last week finished learning how to build my first engine ever, from bare LS 6.0L GenIV iron block to installing the intake being the very last thing to do on Wednesday when I get home. Then Saturday another shop will start installing it. Fully forged 390ci 4.030 bore x 3.825 Callies crank, Compstar rods and Diamond pistons. One thing I totally forgot to ask my builder about was degreeing the cam...... I remember putting the timimng chain on and he made me line up the two dots and then torque the 3 bolts. But is it not required to do any cam degreeing on LS engines?

    • @benstaxidermy
      @benstaxidermy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's awesome man! Sounds like it'll be sick once it's done! Whether you have to degree your cam or not all depends on the camshaft. If you are running a super big cam with lots of duration and lift. You need to degree it to ensure proper timing and clearance to ensure you don't have any piston/valve clearance issues. If you're running a more mild cam its not entirely necessary to degree it but its not a bad idea to have the piece of mind. It's really more for people that want to advance or retard the cam timing.

    Beveled bolt? It's a counter sunk machine screw/bolt

    On the cam retainer plate did you use any kind of rtv or silicone on the back side around the gasket? My oem seems to have some that I had to scrape off

    • @brokeassmotorsportsohio
      @brokeassmotorsportsohio  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, the plate should have a gasket built in and that should be all that is needed. That is why it is important to put a new plate on.

    So where the cam bearings already bad or did they mess up or get banged during install?

    • @brokeassmotorsportsohio
      @brokeassmotorsportsohio  ปีที่แล้ว

      We aren't for sure but we're guessing it was during the install since it was only one bearing.

  • @davidsharp922

    So no prelube on the back or the front of the cam plate ? You have probably only built a few ls motors where I have built hundreds of them. Never put loctite on one camplate bolt and never had one come loose because I do the job,not the locrite.

    • @milojanis4901
      @milojanis4901 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally speaking, use of loctite on flat head screws is frowned upon in the machine building trade, so I agree

    • @davidsharp922
      @davidsharp922 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@milojanis4901 I don't use loctite on anything when building motors. Most new camplate bolts will have some on them and that is fine. The headbolts have some on them too and that is fine but putting loctite on everything just shows that someone is insecure in the work they are doing and hope the loctite will save them.
      And there are only 4 things I break out the torque wrench for.
      Rods, mains,head bolts and rocker arms.
      Like I said I have built hundreds of ls motors since 2016 and had no problems.
      None that can be attributed to me anyhow !

    I build 3 motors a week on average and don't have time for video cameras.
    Better take the block back to the machine shop and have those bearings checked.
