    I'm autistic and I'm a car/train enthusiast. I have OO (HO) scale trains and I used to go trainspotting (railfanning) until them dreaded GCSEs came along.

    I remember that George’s friend Carl in the Arthur episode “When Carl Met George” (who is on the spectrum) had an interest in trains when he was first introduced.
    Over time he developed other interests including space, rocket ships, baseball, and playing the accordion.

    This was a good video and I liked all the trains you and your sons got to see. I’m surprised how big the trains are!
    I’m glad your family had a good time and hopefully soon all of your family will get to explore more together with your wife as well.
    Praying for you, your family and all those this coming summer (and winter in the south of the world). Family time is a blessing and special therapy I believe. 😊

    Going outside for a walk or just being outside on the playground helps my son after a meltdown, today just happened to be one of those days. He is 9 and Autistic as well. My husband is autistic too and getting out and about helps with his meltdowns too. Loved this video! So glad you guys are posting again!

    Looks like a fun day for all of you! Reminds me of the sensory-seeking video at the mall you made (think it was at Christmas time) where you just let the boys see new things, smell things and even taste things. Such days where we can just be ourselves, go outside and get fresh input are super important and are in itself a kind of therapy. It does us no good to be shielded from everything, stuck at home or in therapy offices. As an autistic adult, I find myself having to explain this a lot, even though we can get overstimulated easily, understimulation can be just as bad. We still want to experience and see things like everyone else and get away from the day-to-day for a while. It's great to see you're trying to give your kids that when you get the chance!

    I was born a century too late too 😂 People tell me this all the time. I love all the old things! I love the nostalgia . I was born in 88’ and the 50’s thru 90’s were great!!! I also would have been okay with being around in the 50’s and 60’s ! Those looked like some really cool times as well as a century ago as well 😅

    I love this! My type of therapy other than being with my therapist is like either riding in the car with the window down and the wind, listening to some epic music feeling like I’m in a movie, or also acting. So, yea I love being in a fantasy as a therapy!

    Alistair looked like he enjoyed that the most. I would struggle with the loudness of the running of the locomotive and the whistle, they would definitely hurt my ears, even on a good day. I can't stand the smell of a steam train either (my father hates it when I say I prefer the smell of a diesel locomotive!).

    I've always been of the belief that anything that brings you happiness is Therapy. Personally for me, Music production, Mechanical watches and Steam trains are my thing haha. I was born in the Wrong Century and in the Wrong Country lol, there's something about rattling through the old west on a locomotive that's so alluring lol.

    I dont think its overlooked by all of us in the ASD community, its more or less that society makes it way more difficult for us to relax or enjoy anything financially or have anything due to poor societal treatment of us adult or child. I have way more issues with my ASD and CP now than at any point in my life due to mostly societal and financial reasons. Eg: I love my bucket garden, but others wont leave me or the buckets alone, they get stolen, destroyed etc by others. My bucket garden is deemed medical need kind of like a service animal. It makes it hard to do anything, manage, enjoy anything or even go outside and gets demeaning. My health has drastically went down hill due to these things. BTW, autism and trains, LOVE IT. Love trains alot.

    I'm on the spectrum and being involved with a volunteer fire department as a kid was so beyond helpful. Riding the trucks, pulling hoses and fighting fire-nothing better.

    I’m glad therapy is also getting out and doing what you love as well. As an autistic person, I get very bored and anxious at the waiting room at a doctor’s or dentist office. I love getting out of my house doing all kinds of things train related. I also love shopping, dining, zoos, aquariums, vacations on a cruise ship and of course Disney World. Thankfully I live in Florida. However I grew up in Massachusetts. On the train subject, when it comes to heritage railroads, even to this day, I’m tired of them being pulled by diesel. I prefer steam engines. But I have gotten fond of modern freight and passenger diesel’s like the ones on CSX, NS, and FEC here in Jacksonville FL. As well as Amtrak. I also do have a fondness for animals as well. Pet dogs and cats. Even wild animals. At the zoo I like elephants, giraffes, and from Asia, tigers. As for sea creatures, I’m fond of very tropical fish, coral reefs, and definitely dolphins.

    Nice. Well I have autism and I have been doing my own channel for nearly 7 years.
    Yes at times it can be noisy over here in the UK and sometimes train horns can be very powerful
    Regarding Train Therapy with Autism some good points which in my case it helps when I go travelling on the train even at times the journey doesn't always go smoothly.

    I have autism myself, and I don’t really use trains as a therapy for me, but I do like trains after all due to my dad working on the rails plus I watched a little bit of Thomas & Friends back in the day lol nowadays I just watch video essays of different types of trains like the GP-38s old railroad companies like Penn Central that don’t exist anymore my focus now is more on severe weather, but I do occasionally like to look back and see what’s happening now and the future for the railroad industry

    I loved your guys trip the train ride looks like lots of fun maybe I should give it a try! Also I agree with what you said about Autistic Therapy because our therapy can be our special interests or just having fun doing things we love to do! I love going to Water Parks even though I can’t swim I love playing with the water it makes me happy Stim a lot! And it’s true when some specialists try to normalize Autistic people even giving them Medication it happened to me when I was younger because people mistook my Sensory Overloads for bratty tantrums and my dad thought that giving me Medication would cure my Autism but luckily my mom told him not to give it to me anymore and I’ve been better without it! You should be able to be Autistic and Stim without people judging or making fun of you about it but people do it to me all the time and it hurts my feelings a lot but people just tell me to stop being sensitive but ig even though I’m constantly bullied I should just be able to ignore it like everyone else. I really wished I had understanding parents like you guys it’s amazing how much you care and know about your kids your easily the best family on TH-cam keep up the great work! ❤

    I hate that allistic people try to make us more like them. 35 years of (generally well intentioned) people forcing me to fit in (or else) has been traumatising.
    Be your wonderful autistic selves. If an aspect of your autism is causing you trouble, find a way around it. Help your autistic friends and family to find ways of doing things that work for them. Teach your kids self advocacy, self compassion and self understanding.

    This looks so awesome. I would love to go here someday. I really want to get ABA therapy as mental health therapist suggested. Why does mental health keep discharging me? Can mental health help with autism? I understand when on routine and have a consistent environment i don't have behavioral issues or emotional issues. But I get speech therapy and occupational therapy and physical therapy. Physical therapy for my back.

    This is a very interesting channel and the comment section is surprisingly interesting. Do you think there has been an active reluctance to diagnose and talk about autism ADHD and dyslexia possibly due to its cause? Your wife seems very intelligent and beautiful. But I feel like all this is taking a lot out of her. I'm just curious. Do you continue to work on your diet? I've been surfing the web for the last twenty-four years and have been working on my diet for the last eighteen. Did you know that humans are basically carnivores? We don't need to eat plants and are much happier and healthier when we don't.

    Why call it therapy? Its not like aba etc. it does not have standards to hold up or antything. You can make the rules instead off set rules...
    Same way as learning about trains does not make it school or a course about trains...
    When fraising it this way everything could be called therapy.
    It's important to do those things for sure. I guess i just don't understand why you call it therapy when in my eyes it's clearly not.
    Love how you all enjoyed it even if it had the downside off loud train noises. The rest made up for a good time.

    • @AutismFamilyChannel
      @AutismFamilyChannel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure and it was more of a question, a hypothesis. It also depends on which definition you go by. From Cambridge: “a treatment that helps someone feel better, grow stronger, etc., especially after an illness:” I’m not married to it being “therapy” but I wonder if it can be just like horse therapy for autistic people, etc.

    • @puntjepuntpuntje
      @puntjepuntpuntje 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AutismFamilyChannel When you explain it like this it makes more sense. Thank you.
      I guess I don´t like turning everything into `therapy` . (don't see a need for it. i guess i see it as just the things in live that everybody does or should do to make them feel better.
      If its trains, cars, painting or whatever suites that person)
