    Wide but shallow container. Don't mist but provide humidity. Bright indirect light. Repot yearly. Rotate it in the rowing season. Let it dry and start to wild just a bit before u water

    😂Here's my begonia story in 5 steps:
    1. Bought a begonia.
    2. It died.
    3. Bought more begonias.
    4. They died.
    5. Stopped buying begonias.
    🙏 I'm hoping your advice will give me a better chance of keeping a begonia alive! Thank you🌻!

    I have mines in indirect light and it's absolutely beautiful. Mines get zero sunlight and it's thriving like crazy for the past 2 years.

    I've had a begonia for around 4 years now. Mine was propagated from a cutting. I planted the leaf and struggled with it for about a year. It got to be a total of 3 leaves, then a weird thing happened. From that point whenever a new leaf would grow, an old one would fall off. It was like that for a while, and i honestly forgot about it. I left it in a very hot room in my house and it absolutely loved it! Over that summer it grew extremely fast and i had to repot it. I gave it a pole for support. And just this summer it surprised me and grew an entirely new shoot which already has 3 leaves. Its my favorite plant i own and its beautiful

    Thank you I just found out. I owned one of these and I’ve had it for a while and I had it outdoors but I live in Florida so it was doing OK so now I know that it’s gonna be good with the treatment I’ve been getting it.

    I had a begonia maculata for 4 years, it was gorgeous, flowering yearly, constantly growing. I left it for one hot summer in southern Germany next to a bigger window than usual, and it is now really sad. Lost almost all the leaves. I never noticed before how much the heat could affect it😢

    My begonia was given to me a few months back it’s it’s super leggy. I haven’t had a chance to repot it but I was curious as to why the spots on my begonia are very small and faded any advice?

    Tyler, thanks for the great tips, especially on watering 🙂 My question is: what kind of light does my begonia maculata need OUTDOORS? Does it need to be in total shade? Or can it take some minimal (2-3 hours) sunlight? I want to make sure it has enough light to bloom outdoors. Thanks for your channel!

    • @TylerMossop
      @TylerMossop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to help! Thanks for your support 🥰 - I’ve never kept mine outdoors, even in the summer months; however, I would imagine partial shade for outdoor lighting.

    I was hoping you’d have some advice! My Begonia Maculata went through a rough page so is super tall & bare at the bottom. Probably about 12” of stalk with no leaves, but it only has one stalk/stem. Is there anything I can do to get this to grow more busy instead of just growing really tall & bare on the bottom?

    • @TylerMossop
      @TylerMossop  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s tricky! I wonder if you could add another plant to help thicken things up at the base. Over fertilizing can lead to this type of leggy look.

    • @nolitetebastardescarborund9761
      @nolitetebastardescarborund9761 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A woman I know let her plant grow one tall bamboo-like stem, which bent over in a beautiful green & flowery arc over her maybe 3-foot-tall statue of the Buddha. Quite impressive, but it didn't last too long. Once they arc over like that they get too heavy & break.@@TylerMossop

  • @Guitargoddess843

    My begonia got leggy and I think I need to repot it because it's still in its original pot (definitely too small and she's about a year old now). Would you suggest using a succulent mix for good drainage or get some perlite to add to a more typical potting mix? I'm not in the habit of making my own soils, but I want to do this gorgeous plant justice. I am also thinking of going much larger for my next pot and propagating using my cuttings when I prune her back (like I said, she got a bit leggy)

    • @TylerMossop
      @TylerMossop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is she leggy for too much fertilizer or not enough light?

    • @Guitargoddess843
      @Guitargoddess843 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TylerMossop I didn't add any fertilizer. I put it in a sunnier spot that's still not too direct a few months ago but it was already kinda leggy by then so it's hard to say. I'm certain the pot is much too small and is inhibiting better growth of the leaves

      What kind of humidity to you give them?

    • @MelissaFranquii
      @MelissaFranquii 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TylerMossop I supplement with a humidifier in drafty/windy days. But my average temp is about 85F and humidity is a around 70-75% most of the times, sometimes even higher. Most of my plants are in an East facing balcony or window. The irony is that I live in a tropical climate but struggle to keep some tropical plants alive 🤣😅🤷🏻‍♀️.
