  • I ventured out for my usual Tarp and Bivy,
Going to the Forest again due to excessive wind on the hills,
I set up a couple of examples of Tarp configurations I use, when on my camps,
Not a tutorial but just a look at some setups I use.
Again I Tried out the down gear in conjunction this time with a lighter sleeping bag,
I suffered wind all night, but the Tarp stood firm.

Nice one Ade. Great watch for a wet Sunday afternoon 👍 That's a cracking spot to be fair, but yeah, those pesky midges will ruin it through the spring and summer. Great demos of the tarp setups, too.

Hi Gez, thanks for watching, sure you have missed a couple, yes I won’t be in the forest when the midges start, you need the breeze in the hills, thinking of a tent in the hills 😟next

Hi Jimmy, yes as you know it’s a beauty and the beast spot !!! My last camp there I was badly bitten on the back of my neck by the blighters !!!!
We have the hills if the wind ever relents !!!

Wonderful. No need to go fishing bruv, a few pieces of a crust from bread (the crust floats longer) will certainly bring trout and other fish to the surface where you will see and hear them take the bread. I tried an impromptu 1 nighter only to discover I absolutely need a camping mat, I had days in pain. Your kit looks ideal - I took notes!

Hi and thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it, great idea, take a slice of crust ! It’s great to use many minds for fresh insight, you really do need an inflatable mat, expensive but worth it.

Hi Graham, probably my 2nd favourite spot to camp, but as you say not in the midge season, it’s Bellas camping mascot, it appears somewhere in most videos when I remember !!!!

I like a modified lean to myself. a 12*7 would be perfect but I can't find one that size so I make do with a12*10.
Another idea was to put bungee cord loops on the tie out points. gives the tarp more give in a gust of wind.
Rab tarps are very good for wieght and quality, Aqua Quest for camping in a war zone, heavy but bomb proof.
I must have half a dozen biv's but can't stand to use anything other than my modded army bivi.
Yes, chopped most the hood off and had a centre zip put in it.
always a pleasure to see an upload👍👍

    • @northumberlandmountainhopper
      @northumberlandmountainhopper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi and thanks for watching, those two sizes are pretty close, so why the preference ?
Sometimes I have put loops on the tie outs normally in long Heather or if I want a breeze to come through

It really is a magic spot, just a pain to get to, so much swampy ground up there,I always sit and watch for rises, never seen one yet, but wild loughs always have Trout ? Perhaps take a few nymphs up one day, if it’s snowy I may stay in lol !!! Extreme cold does not suit me these days !!!

If it pours and the ground soaks how would you prevent the goretex from wetting through ? I just woke after a night in a puddle that soaked through the goretex . . Tye ground was lwft damp but therecwas a puddle in the bivvy under the mat . I was dry and comfortable . Advice? I had a tyvek sheet outside the bivvy and was thinking next time to put the pad under the bivvy ?
