At 12:40 when you say to cover up the barcode with FNSKU sticker, are you saying to let Amazon do so for a fee or for you or your manufacturer to do so? Thanks!
I have just came across your video and I found it so interesting I had to hit the like and follow button, so I’m new to Amazon and I have someone handling my account just so I can learn…and take over from there…. So my products are still been manufactured, my account manager want to draft a listing, so he said we Needed an EAN I intend selling in eu, so I asked around my friends told me it’s not mandatory I went as far as checking up on online. I first bought an EAN Amz rejected it saying it should be directly from GS1, now my question is why did he insist we get an EAN ?????
Thanks for your support, I appreciate it! An EAN is the same thing as a UPC. Both are considered GTIN's and you need to have a GTIN in order to create a new product listing on Amazon. Always buy them directly from GS1. I went over this in the video, hope that helps!
@CrescentKao Thanks for your reply. I can't get a straight answer from Amazon Seller Support on this question. We already use a GS1 UPC on the product, but per FDA regulations we now have to encode the lot number in the barcode.
This has been the most helpful video I have found. I am doing FBM in only need to purchase just one barcode from gs1 for brand approval correct? Hoping to hear from you
I’m glad you found it helpful! You need a GS1 barcode to create a product listing. You need a listing to apply for brand approval. This goes over it: th-cam.com/video/EeBhjelcl9w/w-d-xo.html
Hi! Your knowledge and videos are AMAZING! Thank you so much. I have a product with a UPC on the packaging, but it is shrink-wrapped. Will that work for Amazon in regards to scanning (you can see the barcode no problem)? I thought you said it needs to be on the outside of the packaging, but my packaging is just light shrinkwrap that is see-through. Thanks for your help!
You are the real deal? Appreciate you. My question is about serial number for health and beauty. My product have a barcode/ SN or QR code. On it or package.? I’m trying to navigate it and get ungated. What do I need to do? It is so complicated Amazon.
Hi Crescent, love your content! I had a question: I will be selling private label on Amazon. My supplier in China will be bundling a box gift set of 4 completely different beauty products (1 box unit with 4 different products inside). My question is will I need an individual UPC for each different beauty product inside (so 4 different UPC) as well as a separate UPC for the outside of the box set (as 1 unit) or just the 1 UPC for the box as my product listing and the 4 items inside are then absent of UPCs on them? Thereby also only one Amazon FNSKU for the box set as the unit?
Hello, I'm glad you find value in the content. You only need one barcode. When you buy a box set of anything at a store, does the cashier open it up scan everything inside? Or do they just scan the one barcode on the outside? Here's an updated video on this: th-cam.com/video/4ZM2JkPOHnE/w-d-xo.html
Do we need to buy a UPC bar code for both red and blue and any other color variation we have? Even if we plan on using a FNSKU after buying one UPC bar code to opise amazons requierment as a private seller with our own brand? Thank you for such a detailed video with so much information!
You're welcome, I'm glad you found value in the video. Yes, every product or variation needs to have its own UPC barcode. I gave examples in the video.
Hi Cescent! If I have a private label product that I got a upc for already but I want to make that product a 2-pack sale do I need and FNSKU as well for the multipack option?
As I explained in the video, you need a UPC to create the listing on Amazon. You want to use the FNSKU on each unit to avoid commingling: th-cam.com/video/3DtbcEtgjjw/w-d-xo.html
@@CrescentKao Thanks! So while ordering a GS1 barcode, the fields for "Brand Name" and "Company Name" can be anything? I don't have to get an official name (TM/DBA) of some sort?
Can you have some products with UPS labels and others with FNSKU not selling outside of Amazon? It looks like from video when you change label setting it’s for all products and you can’t select which products will be UPS vs FNSKU.
Question, i have my product and followed all your instructions however i was wondering where do i print the upc code from GS1? If so, how do we print it our correctly because gs1 provides a big bar code and i tried fixing settings and it doesnt work :(
Hi thank you so much for your teaching, really appreciated. I have a question do I have to get two barcode? The Gs1 and the Fnsku? Does this mean I have to stick two barcodes on my product? Or can I use the barcode already found on the product when listening and then choose the Amazon barcode thereafter.. Sorry I am new and still a bit puzzled 😊 Thank you
Hello! You're welcome, I'm glad you found value in the content. You need to buy a UPC barcode if you don't already have one in order to create a product listing. Once you've created a listing, Amazon an assign you the Amazon barcode (FNSKU). I suggest putting the FNSKU on each unit, not the UPC.
Exactly what I have been looking for! I have a journal product that I would like to sell with a pouch included with the journals. I have 2 colors for the journals, so I know I need two separate UPC codes, but if I want to include the pouch for each book , do I also need a UPC code for the pouch?
I’m glad you found it helpful! Like I explained in the video, every unit needs its own barcode, it doesn’t matter what’s included in the unit, the unit as a whole uses one barcode.
Hello. Thank you for this content. Very insightful. So to reconfirm, once I buy a UPC from GS1 to get my approval on Amazon, I do not need to put the UPC on my products since I will still use the FNSKU on each product I sell. I look forward to your response.
For clothing items do I need a different UPC for each size of identical items (example 1 Shirt offered in sizes XS-XL= 5 UPC’s) I imagine each size will need a different fnsku, do I need to then create a variation for each size for an identical product?
@@CrescentKao thank you. I have saved so many of your videos to watch later I'm learning a lot from your channel. Just one concern if we sell 1 product but many units how many codes should we give to our suppliers to stick it on our products ? I understand for different products more than 1 but for similar products with many individual wraps ?

So i need to buy the upc and enter it on amazon and dont need to stick the upc code on the product...but i need the upc for getting the FNSKU after i get the FNSKU i need to send them to the manufacturer to stick all of the codes on the packaging?...am i correct?
Thank you so much for the video. I’m about to start a business selling on Amazon FBA and barcodes were doing my head. I feel a bit stupid to ask, but just want to be sure. I’ll be selling on own product on amazon and I already have my bar code from GS1 printed on the label of the product. Does it mean that i still need to add fnsku label on top of my GS1? Most of my products will be sold on Amazon. However, I’ll be selling it to shops too. What would you recommend? Thank you so much
You're welcome, I'm glad you're finding value in the content. Yes, if you want to use the Amazon barcode, then you need to cover the UPC with the FNSKU label on the units you're sending to Amazon. Only one barcode can be visible. This goes over it: th-cam.com/video/3DtbcEtgjjw/w-d-xo.html
You're welcome. Yes, you need a UPC to create the product listing. You can't get the FNSKU with a product listing: th-cam.com/video/qwd4bxnXizA/w-d-xo.html
Great video. I have a question. I'm starting my seller account as a private label, so do I still need any sort of barcode? UPC and/or FNSKU? thanks, much appreciated
I'm glad you found the video helpful! Yes, you need to have a UPC barcode to create a product listing. This goes over it: th-cam.com/video/qwd4bxnXizA/w-d-xo.html
I made a mistake buying a UPC code from a third party and now I want to buy GS1 UPC barcodes to replace them. But I am struggling not to have issues with listings. The product remains the same without any changes could this be done, without any problems. What could happen with the ASIN. Any advice, please help.
I have a question. So if I'm doing Private Label and I intend to have my supplier add my own Barcode label (with the made in china, SKU, etc.) I do NOT need to do FNSKU correct? I don't need 2 barcodes?
Only one barcode can be visible and you should put the FNSKU on each unit, not the UPC as I explained in the video. And this goes over packaging: th-cam.com/video/3DtbcEtgjjw/w-d-xo.html
I'm creating a new dietary supplement to be sold on Amazon. Obviously I will be the sole seller of it on Amazon. Since it is a consumable with an expiration I will need to have an FNSKU on it. When I create my listing should I set the FBA Product Barcode Preference to my UPC or the Amazon Barcode? Also, to save money can I print the FNSKU barcode directly on the product label instead of the UPC code?
If I have private label, purchased UPC code from GS1, do I need physically print it on my products? Its not enough that I will stick only generated FNSKU sticker on product before sending to Amazon FBA ?
Excuse my ignorance, who is considered a manufacturer here? Would I still be considered the manufacturer even though I purchased the item elsewhere? Like the manufacturing company in China?
What if im making a completely new and innovative product? Do i need sku number? And my other question is would a provisional patent be enough for amazon to prevent others from taking my listing idea and trying to brand label it themselves? I know amazon will do that with official patent but unsure if provisional has same response.
1) Every product needs to have it's own UPC barcode in order to create a product listing on Amazon. I went over this in the video. 2) Amazon won't do anything proactively for anyone IP. It's your responsibility to enforce your own IP.
May be a dumb question, but am I not able to use the upc for an item that is being sold on Amazon, but by someone else? I was able to go into Amazon's catalog and see the upc for the exact same item I am trying to list and would like to use that upc but don't want to if the sale would go to the other vendor.
Hello. I went over this in the video. If you're doing wholesale or arbitrage, you can use the original manufacturers barcode that's already on the product.
when buying from Gs1 should I buy the $30 one with no annual fee or the other one with the $50 fee .. I have 12 products but like the idea of not renewing fees per year but does the annual fee one help me in the long run? just wanted your opinion
Do I just copy the numbers of the UPC onto the FNSKU? What I mean is, when I do retail arbitrage and the manufacturers' barcodes are already on the product, do I just sue that same barcode number for the FNSKU?
I just purchased gs1 barcodes, but can't figure out how to put these bar codes on my listing. Can u give me a link on how to list the products with gs1 barcodes.. thanks
thanks for replying back just one more question the upc or gtin code, does it has to go on each individual unit or just one on the packaging be enough as im only getting one type of product in same size and colour
Hi, I am just starting my amazon business. I have product of 500 units divided in 2 boxes. Do I need to apply the SKU LABELs on each units or just the 2 boxes?
Hi, I have a question, I upload my first product to amazon. It is a product that it is already selling it by Amazon. The problem is, my product doesn't have any barcode. So my question is: Can I ship this product to amazon and ask them to put the barcode for me in my products? (My products are gloves L and XL) thanks
Hello i need help please. I have 3 different practice books( alphabet, number, and words) in 3 in one packaging. How many UPC do i need? As per your video i need one upc per packaging. Am i right? Could you please help me on this? Thank you.
Thanks so much, you make everything so clear! Just one question, if I’m doing FBA and am planning to restocking for an existing product, can I just reuse the same FNSKU labels I printed before or do I need to reprint new ones each time I send in more stock? Thanks!
You're welcome! I'm happy to hear that you're finding value in the content! Yes, just reprint them using the same print option. The barcodes will never change for the lifetime of the listing. (only on very rare occasions would it change)
Please clarify something for me, i am doing private label and want to use the FNSKU barcode. Does this mean i stil need to buy a UPC from GS1 and have the FNSKU stickered over it? Or i do not need to buy UPC and just produce the FNSKU from amazon and have it stickered on the packaging as the only barcode on the package ?
You need a UPC barcode to create the listing. Then put the FNSKU on your units. These videos goes over it: th-cam.com/video/qwd4bxnXizA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kbyCZ4MphuA-MK1H th-cam.com/video/3DtbcEtgjjw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=legPYSXC-ogGDP0g
I'm a musician that has made a music album. I plan to distribute three different formats of the same album. I'm getting conflicting advice, perhaps you could help me clear it up. Basically, will I need three separate bar codes for each format of the same album? Compact disc, Vinyl record, and digital (for streaming) ? Also, is a bar code required for the entire album in the 'digital version' for streaming services?
Correct. Every product or variation including digital products needs to have it's own unique UPC barcode. I gave examples of how that works in the video.
@@CrescentKao Thanks, I just wasn't sure if music albums were somehow different. Although, it's confusing on the digital album since it's not a 'physical' product. I do know each song needs a specific ISRC code though.
For retail arbitrage, if I have 4 of the same item with a manufactured upc already all in a case pack, do i need to use ONE fnsku to be placed on the case pack (outer area) and only want amazon to use the upc on each item in the case pack to allow co-mingling. Does amazon allow co-mingling? or I do I have to have a fnsku on each of the 4 items in the case pack and also on the case pack?
If you're selling the 4 pack as one unit then the unit itself needs to have the barcode on it. If it's being split up and sold individually, then each unit needs a barcode. I showed examples in the video.
Your products most likely already have the original manufacturers UPC barcode on them already. Here's an updated video on this: th-cam.com/video/4ZM2JkPOHnE/w-d-xo.html
Hi! Omg I'm watching all videos, still new to this whole process, I purchased a GS1 code, for my private label, amazon requires me to register my brand. when I do all this they say my GS1 code has 11 digits and should be 12. I saw in one of your videos I could add a zero? is it at front or end of the code?
Hi there. I am not brand registered. But I am having a hard time with the UPC. When I get the error it tells me to contact Amazon support. I do. I send the certificate and the screenshot of my error. They tell me I have prove my brand and I can’t. Because I’m not registered. I don’t know how to get a ASIN because I can’t get past the part to even list it or put in my drafts. I am shipping from alibaba to Amazon warehouse. So am I the manufacturer? And for the brand name should I be putting my personal name on the gs1 sight and my listing?
I have identical clothes organizer in two color black and grey. being packed as. 2pcs pack of black 3 pcs pack of black 2 pcs pack of grey 3 pcs pack of grey these all are identical with quantity pack variation as above and color. how may UPC i need to buy. can you please guide.
@@infoimpact did you watch the video? It’s hard to say because I don’t know exactly what you’re saying and how your units are sold. Every units requires its own barcode. If I’m selling 4 different colored shirts and the buyer gets all four when they make one purchase, then I only need one barcode. If the buyer has to buy each shirt separately, then I need 4 barcodes. The video explained this with diagrams and graphics.
@CrescentKao yes I watched the video. Quantity variation units with identical product was not explained there. But as you said that each unit pack requires a separate UPC, which means that I need to buy 4 UPC.
Do i need to buy UPC codes if we want to sell Shopify product on amazon ? Like the order from Amazon will show in our Shopify site and we fullfil it ourselves ?
Hey @crescentkao , I switched the barcode preference on my account to use amazon barcode, however, I already have inventory at FBA that is using the UPC barcodes (the old way I had it set up). Will this cause an issue with that inventory?
Hey #crescent your video was really helpful and detailed keep up doing that great work 👍 i have a little confusion if we want to sell already existing listing on amazon will that listing need ups code too ?
Hello! I'm glad you find value in the content! If a listing already exists for a product then you need to use the UPC barcode that's already on the product to add your inventory to the listing to sell but I suggest putting the FNSKU on each of your units like I suggested in the video.
@@CrescentKao can you please answer my one question?? I’m stuck on that while listing product on amazon it has two blanks one for contribution SKU and one for product external id . MEN may GOD bless you😂❤ , You saved me , I had like 600 bottles of parfumes and I needed EAN- 13 and I want to separate them in 3 CATEGORIES ( is not mandatory to have but still it seems better ) I thought I would need to buy 600 different barcodes instead of buying only 3 Barcodes ( around 100€) is this true ???
Great content ❤ thanks for sharing . I have a question though, So I have my 600 bottles of parfumes , and I want to divide them in 3 categories . and I need barcodes for them , Now should I buy only 3 barcodes for each category, or all of them for like 600 different barcodes? or I can use GS1 Barcodes to buy just 3 for each categories, like i have 1 categorie of black parfumes for men , 200 bottles , then second categorie of phoenix , 200 bottles and third one is royal 200 bottles . so what should i do ? buy just 3 barcodes and print them in 600 other barcodes
I'm not sure what you mean? You don't need to buy a SKU, you can just make it up when you create the listing, the SKU is for your own book keeping and inventory tracking.
If it's not something you can patent, then you can't. And even if you could patent it, patents are only as good as how much you can afford to enforce it.

Thanks Crescent, very useful and keep posting new videos.
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful and I appreciate your feedback, thanks!
Does Amazon FBA allow the manufacturer's barcode to be in GS1-128 format?
I don't believe so at this time. It's probably best to confirm with Seller Support. Worst case, just buy a GS1 UPC for $30.
@CrescentKao Thanks for your reply. I can't get a straight answer from Amazon Seller Support on this question. We already use a GS1 UPC on the product, but per FDA regulations we now have to encode the lot number in the barcode.
YOU ARE A GENIUS!! Thank you🙌🏼🙏🏼 best of luck in your endeavors

Hi Cescent! If I have a private label product that I got a upc for already but I want to make that product a 2-pack sale do I need and FNSKU as well for the multipack option?
Hello. Yes, every unique product requires it's own UPC and a new FNSKU will be assigned to it from Amazon.
What’s the point of having a UPC code if it’s going to be covered up by the FNSKU? where do I stick the UPC code on the packaging? I’m confused.
As I explained in the video, you need a UPC to create the listing on Amazon. You want to use the FNSKU on each unit to avoid commingling: th-cam.com/video/3DtbcEtgjjw/w-d-xo.html

Does this mean I have to stick two barcodes on my product?
Or can I use the barcode already found on the product when listening and then choose the Amazon barcode thereafter..
Sorry I am new and still a bit puzzled 😊

For clothing items do I need a different UPC for each size of identical items (example 1 Shirt offered in sizes XS-XL= 5 UPC’s)
I imagine each size will need a different fnsku, do I need to then create a variation for each size for an identical product?

Unfortunately, you can not change the UPC on an existing listing.
Excuse my ignorance, who is considered a manufacturer here? Would I still be considered the manufacturer even though I purchased the item elsewhere? Like the manufacturing company in China?
Yes, if you're doing private label and you're having product manufactured by someone else, you're still manufacturer.
