- During my trip to Ojika island in Nagasaki prefecture, I had the chance to stay 3 nights at this amazing samurai-style house! And it was amazing!
This house used to be owned by the richest man of this area in Ojika (Kondo family). And you will quickly see why as it's pretty big and luxurious. The house was renovated by Alex Kerr (renown Japanologist) and he made sure it keeps all its traditional features.
We call this kind of Japanese traditional houses "Kominka" and this one is called "Oyake" which roughly translates to "parents". The name comes from the fact that the owner of the house was the "boss" of the area.
