  • This is a tour of an Edo period residence of a samurai family in Hagi city; an old castle town located in Yamaguchi prefecture. The last Yukawa to live in the house donated it to the city as a cultural asset. The family currently resides in Kyushu. The house is open all year and admission is one hundred yen.
    Located in a quiet neighborhood at the mouth of the Aiba river, the house uses the river in its design by diverting the river to run through the garden and house before rejoining the river where it exists into the bay.

    Very interesting, however the music doesn't match the feeling of "traditional"~~~

    3:03 What am I looking at here? What are those bowls on the ledge for?

    • @thisoldjapanesehouse
      @thisoldjapanesehouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello! I believe those are the tea bowls and rice bowls that the family used. In the garden, there's a small shaded alcove, near the small stream that runs through the garden. The guide said that Mr. Yukawa would place his used cups in the small covered bamboo baskets down the diverted stream in the garden to the kitchen. Where they would pick them up and wash them before the water rejoined the river, just outside to the right of the photo. Sorry for the late response. Thank you so much for watching!

      Oh, I'm sorry I deleted the file. I'm pretty sure I found it on a site called 甘茶の音楽工房 (amacha no ongaku koubou). If I find it, I will post the name.

    I don't think they should sell houses like this...🤕🤧Does anyone live here?...it's beautiful.

      Hi 90's アニメさん、Hello. No, no one does now. The staff explained that the last Yukawa, after lengthy family discussions, came to the conclusion to donate the house to the city. The house was lived in as is until the 1990s, so I think when they weighed the financial and historical costs of renovating and then maintaining such a property, it just seemed to make more sense to donate the house and let the public enjoy it. The garden is so nice. If you lived there, you would be so so busy every day, I think... =) Thank you for your comment and question.

      @@thisoldjapanesehouse is it possible to build similar houses in future 🤔 ?

    • @thisoldjapanesehouse
      @thisoldjapanesehouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@29359 I think for some families with deep pockets, it will be possible to build a traditional house new, but unfortunately the vast majority of houses built today are modern and western. So the Craftsmen needed to build these houses are becoming more and more difficult to find. I think fifty years from now the countryside is going to look very different.
