- Bernie Kempinski's 2 rail O scale Civil War layout has been featured in many magazines including Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman. Part One of my video shoot features the incredible scenery and the history behind what Bernie chose to model and capture on the layout. All structures and rolling stock are scratch built with beautiful hand laid track. Part Two (to be uploaded this weekend) will showcase trains running and some basic operations. To see more on this layout go to Bernie's TH-cam channel entitled Alkem studios@BernardK
Great layout...the boats blew me away.
I live near Aquia, and to see a layout of our little homely area featured in so many publications is just amazing. The layout itself is just superb!
thanks hope you decide to subscribe to see more it helps the channel
Spectacular craftsmanship! Being in Central Virginia, I am impressed with the authenticity of the landscape.
Just seen this on Jenny Kirks Monday club. Absolutely stunning layout, most American layouts we at UK exhibitions are 1950's, modern day or set in California during the gold rush and logging times.
Probably one of the best layouts I've seen yet, every element from scenery, to backdrops, to equipment, its perfect

Great to see Bernie again! He photographed my NTRAK modules many, many years ago for a magazine article when I lived in Northern VA. A wonderful photographer and person.
How cool! I love this early period. Such an explosion of technology enabling railroad expansion all over the new nation. ❤
great layout thanks four the vid thanks lee
Incredible and late 1800’s era layouts are my absolute favorite. Not often you see O scale layouts much less one at this level of quality. Before building my main layout I considered building the late 1800’s indianola Texas railroad just so I could have 2-3 long wharfs out into the bay and i absolutely love the rail infrastructure of that time however I opted to model all of Calhoun county and the Austwell branch just outside Calhoun county and it’s modeled between 1910-1930. Thank you for sharing this! Just beautiful
Absolutely love the history coming from these layouts, fantastic!
@@PRRFAN thank you
Beautiful! You seem to have a knack for finding these gorgeous model railroads.
Awesome layout ❤ a lot of detail to take in, I particularly love the locomotives 🚂
wonderfull ! the historical references are great.thanks.
Stunning! And so original! 🇬🇧
(Great to see George Stephenson too!)
What a magnificent layout! Well done fellas.
Thanks happy you enjoyed it
I enjoyed operating on this beautiful layout during MARPM.
Thanks for sharing Al What great railroad!
Thank Gary I'm trying
This really is a great layout.......a museum level display.
I have a SMR B&O 0-8-0 3 rail loco. I think it is from a batch SMR rejected and they sold cheap. LOVE to have some of those 4-4-0 locos. Hope pt2 is soon. Thanks
Love all the flags.
This pike is magnificent, albeit the anthesis I what the hobby is for me.......imagination only!!! Kempinski's modeling skills and talent for research are quite remarkable and then some. This period of history does have my complete interest, and I once was going to model the 1865 period only in HO, but I found it more enjoyable (for me only) to make things up, not copying a period in time, with architecture and equipment. My musical interest and preference are from this time in history as I once played in an old timey string band with banjo, guitar and harmonica......and most or our tunes were from the civil war era. We still have some CD's left as we recorded four....the first being on old railroad songs. Al, your coverage of Kempinski's work is rather excellent, and again this pike is among the best I have ever seen. Congrats Bernie!!!!
@HowardZane thanks Howard just posted part 2 glad you enjoyed it
The backdrop feel like Matt paintings from classic Disney films in the 60s.
To see trains running watch Part two of this video . There was so much to talk about on the layout a separate video will show some running
Bernie has amazing modelling skills, but what's astonishing to me is how he prolific he is. Does he ever sleep?
I’ll sleep when I’m dead.
@BernardK hello Bernie again thanks for allowing me to video folks echo what I felt. Your layout is fabulous
It is never too late to be what you might have been
Is the far track like the far queue
9:35 that rolling stock has Howards' attention!
Thanks how is the tall man doing ? Someone should make him in ho and o scales
@@alpugliesetrains9753 would need an ho or O scale hearse. I bet you and Howard could build the model of the Morningside Mortuary. That's right up your alley! His name in the movies? Jebadiah Morningside.
When Jebadiah comes marching home!
