    Trauma pads are Non-Ballistic and offer no increase in ballistic protection. Designed to be worn in conjunction with and behind your body armor, our Trauma Pads reduce the amount of energy transfer to your body, reducing felt energy through your armor.

    Yeah, but people dont die because they got penetrated by cars, they die from the impact. Bullets, when stopped by armour, turn into pure impact.

    My whole family is armored by your products, the only complaint I have is with their Phoenix back packs. On your video about the backpacks its shown to have Level 3 soft armor, and its sewn in its own compartment opposed to a single panel you just put inside the backpack. The video and the photos on your site shows how the soft armor cover the back of the backpack from top to bottom. But when my order came in the soft armor was sewed into its own pocket but does not protect from bottom to top, the armor inside is too small so it slides around. I bought them because both of my girl had CODE RED at their schools earlier this year. The back pack is shown to be a shield, worn on front of body, worn on the back. But you can never tell where the soft armor is going to be if it slides down to the bottom, then the most vital areas are not covered because the top 4 inches of the pack is unprotected. When we have to wear armor we make sure its worn correctly, and placed properly on our bodies. But with the back packs I received you can never tell where that life saving protection coverage is.

      Yeah if the pad can slide around very much, that’s a little bit of a problem. However they do offer good protection where they cover. I bought the separate pad(s) so I could install them on my backpacks. They fit well and don’t move around. However even these don’t cover 100% of the backpack.

    when you look at the cost of armor, the trauma pads are dirt cheap, so why wouldn't you run them. even though AR500 isn't exactly super expensive armor, still the trauma pads are dirt cheap. I think they were like $90 for a front and back pair. no big deal when you spending $400 or more for a good vest and plates.

    bought mine three and a half weeks ago and it arrived three days ago! Spot on shipping calculations even regarding everything going on "these" days.
    One thing I am not truly happy about is the outsourcing to Vietnam for production. I was not aware of this upon purchasing due to the "USA" made labeling I was seeing. My negligence in research has been becoming an issues as of late it would seem.
    The product is quality to say the least. I do wish I had taken advantage of the "anti-spalling" purchase at checkout. As it would have only added roughly $90 maximum to my order. An order of which was only $323.16 for the Veritas plate carrier and cummerbund strap.
    I mean WTF over?!?! less than $350 you're protected from some serious situations in many respects.
    I will be using some (QOURTER INCH THICK) duct tape for my spalling needs..... Only the front of the plate needs to be coated that thick, so I figure a good three or four wraps around whatever takes to be the thickness needed should be sufficient in the end.
    Because come on. "In the END" just stopping the round is going to be sufficient, so any added ANYTHING is going to be the butter to your bread...

    Steel body armor does not produce any substantial blunt trauma. Instead it produces an “ultrasound” wave (I don’t know a better way to describe it) caused by its vibration, that can damage your organs. This is unique to non deformable armor made of stuff like ballistic steel and titanium. The more momentum/energy the plate stops and the less it weighs, the more powerful this wave will be. In order to mitigate it, for M80 ball, an inch gap should be present between the plate and person’s body. It can be literally any material, i.e. foam or rubber. Although I’d personally put some NIJ IIIA Kevlar behind it. In 90s and early 2000s, Russians put Kevlar behind their 4.6 mm steel plates and certified it as an equivalent to NIJ III++ (7.62x54R LPS and 5.45x39 7N10).
    Also, the spall coating on AR500 is crap. I advise that people get the “base layer” version and wrap it in glued Kevlar/Twaron instead. 10 layers of 200 gsm Kevlar should do the trick.

    • @themostsecretscience6409
      @themostsecretscience6409 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats how I have mine set up. 3A kevlar behind AR600 plates. I'm gonna use the glued kevlar idea too.

      Ultrasound is used in medical imaging of delicate tissue. The ultrasound from armor theory is basically bunk, and relegated to Sci Fi. Bullets that hit large metal plates don’t cause the plates to vibrate at the frequencies required for Ultrasound. These plates tend to “ring” in audible ranges which is well outside the ultrasound range. Also this combination could never produce sonic energy levels at the level needed to cause damage to tissue, that’s firmly in the Sci Fi category.
      This is not to say that plates don’t vibrate when hit, they do, it’s that the vibration isn’t what is doing the damage. Impact energy and Back face deformation is what do the damage.

    • @azeke8
      @azeke8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@richb2229 There had been countless occasions when people survived shots on armor that resulted in 2-3 times the maximum backface deformation as stipulated by NIJ standard (44 mm). Steel plates on the other hand barely have any backface deformation (usually a maximum of 5 mm). Yet, there had been confirmed instances during the Chechen wars when soldiers died or suffered organ damage from shots on body armor’s steel plates that remained intact and didn’t even leave any bruising on the skin.

      Soft body armor would be a bit of a waste behind hard armor from a cost standpoint. The teams pads are a fraction of the cost and are more than capable of moderating the blunt force trauma. If you had a spare soft plate I suppose that would be okay too. But it’s unnecessary and doesn’t really give any added protection.

    • @Wat-Dat
      @Wat-Dat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No. It wouldn’t harden to absorb impact, and it wouldn’t give you any added bullet protection.
      If you put a soft panel behind your III+ armor a black tip would still pass cleanly through both.

    As I've been digging into armour, I've been increasingly curious what exactly makes up a trauma pad? I do not see reports of people having personal results with them (fortunately) but it does begger the question... What exactly IS a trauma pad?
    Non Newtonian fluid feels wrong, because they aren't fluid and if they were, it would settle to the bottom of whatever seems they had. I don't find cutaway videos or anything really breaking this down. I don't want to volunteer to be the guy to "demonstrate" a with versus without, but without any firsthand accounts I can find, it makes me more curious...
    BFD aside, the NIJ has an absurd level they accept. Some 44mm which is almost 2". Insane, not a level I'd want poking into me, bullet stopped aside. So to simply be NIJ rated and assisting that isn't curing my idea that trauma pads are a touch of snake oil... I am really curious, please help me understand.

    • @AR500Armor
      @AR500Armor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the question. No, Kevlar and Trauma pads cannot be used interchangeably. They do different things. Kevlar provides a material that is strong enough along the tinsel lines to stop a handgun round. Trauma pads use a non-Newtonian padding to resist energy with an equal and opposing amount of energy.
      If you are talking about stopping something that may pass through the primary armor, Kevlar (or soft armor) is what you will want behind it.
      When the primary armor stops a threat, a trauma pad behind it will dampen the forces pushed back into the wearer. Kevlar will NOT dampen these forces and the transfer of energy from the main plate will pass through the soft armor panel in into you.
      Ideally you would want all 3 if permittable.

      Although anything behind the armor could be better than nothing, ultimately your going to want to go with a trauma pad. Hello my name is ralphie, a few months ago I purchased a vest from wish, I never purchased the trauma pad because for some reason I didn't know the size or if it was the right one. So later on that day I went back on wish and purchase two trauma pads when I received them I noticed they were
    An inch over on each side after overlapping the pad over the pocket. I then measured the fitting from top to bottom and notice that the bottom of the pad was 2 inches passed the bottom end of the pocket where the pad would normally fit. So I thought maybe I'll trim the pad to the fitting of the pocket on the vest. Can you please give me some of your advice if whether or not it would work thank you. the best that I purchase has the long velcro flaps on the bottom which covers the pockets entrance.

    • @AR500Armor
      @AR500Armor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each trauma pad is specially engineered to mitigate blunt force trauma in case your armor takes a round and reduces the amount of back face deformation that could occur, which can mitigate risk of injury after impact.
      It is designed from the ground up to be worn in conjunction with and behind your body armor to reduce the amount of energy transfer to your body, reducing felt energy through your armor and mitigating backface deformation. Industrial floormats are simply not designed to do that. Now that being said, floormats are probably better than NOTHING but then anything is better than nothing.
