I guess the "uplifting" mood is supposed to generate a feeling of nostalgia or longing for something good that has ended

This track in particular really reminds me of .neon era Lantlôs, with the almost post rock atmosphere paired with blast beats and the pained screams. I believe people refer to this generally as post black metal, which makes sense.

Just discovered your channel, the level of intricacy of your analyses is unheard of for more obscure metal bands like this! And other things like your tech death analyses, been loving em.
I was so excited when I saw you had done a WoD vid, but I'd say Torn Beyond Reason is definitely his best album.

Really worh checking out the song Far From Here, and the album itself is my favorite since Agalloch days.

I love Woods of Desolation, and this newer stuff is still good but struggles to impact me as much as the near-perfection of his 'Torn Beyond Reason' album.

Seems a lot of good DSBM bands end up in the goofy world of post-black metal. I wish they wouldn't do that...

Roughly, same here, although I prefer Sorh EP.

@@wtw5002 'Torn Beyond Reason' is still pretty post-black metal, just with a more raw production. I'm not the biggest fan of post-black metal either, and 'Torn...' is still too post for some people I've come across. But it just comes together so well on that album.

... Hey it's 4 in the morning here in France, I made a dream about you (and me) in front of my computer, I was at your place and we talked about music (Woods Of Desolation) and you talked and talked (In reality i was hearing your voice in my "half sleep", and you were talking so much without hearing my responses ... That made me a "little" crazy lol ...
Ok and so on, and I just woke up now at the end of your speach ...
And now I bealieve I had to be a Patreon here ... Ok I'll see this later after a sleep ... Perhaps we'll talk about later ... Sorry for this strange "writting", I just thought I have to write it down ... Oh and sorry about my bad english as I am french (and old too ^^) ... So just a word about this LP of WOD, I prefere the 3 songs from the beginning (the "not" post-rock style of songs) ... So voilà Brian, see you later ... (It's not a joke hein !!!).

Definitely a post-influenced black metal, with maybe a bit of blackgaze in there too. It's not quite as ethereal as something like Alcest or Deafheaven, but the bright, reverbed out guitar melody is definitely pointing in that direction. I was especially struck by how... hopeful/optimistic the guitar lines were, which is something you almost never get in black metal. I wouldn't call this hi-fi though, and it does wear a bit thin by the end. Thankfully it's only 6-minutes and not one of those black metal epics that hammers on the same idea for 10 minutes straight.

I can't say I'm good at hearing syncopation, but go-to places in BM should be: Anubi, Ved Buens Ende, In the Woods..., Fleurety, Blut aus Nord, DsO. Probably, also Abyssal's Veil of Transcendence messes with time and rhythm at certain point, although they are Black-Death-Doom metal.

''Torn Beyond Reason'' is my favorite album and personally sounds way better than their newer album.

Also a good Song but more DSBM is from "Austere - the dreadful emptiness" or "Sterbend - Depressing Paths Through Fullmoon Forests"
Nice react and analyse. For my Opinion, if u like Post BM than Agrypnie is a good choice starting a adventure through this genre.

Since I'm on catch-up, this got a skip. Sorry :( - I never downvote for the song, as it's not your fault... Hmm got to the @2:20 section and that was interesting before I skipped, but sorry, irrelevant what comes next :s

Black Gaze, definitvely, with some My Bloody Valentine influence (on the wise side), rather nice, with indeed some posivitve uplifting musical vibes (love the ending), but not HIFI, and with, alas, a bad singer....just my opinion....
