  • In episode #1, we had stumbled upon a 2005 Mercedes CL55 AMG that was abandoned in a storage unit, last on the road over 5 years ago!
In this episode, we finally install the EIS (Electronic Ignition System) Module and try out our freshly programmed keys.
    Will it start????

Congratulations on getting the CL started. I have a 2006 CL500 and your series is telling me a lot about the car. I had no ideal that the siren module had a battery.

      Right on!
We are actually going to surgically open that module in a bit and have a look inside.
If there is any interest, we can post that for anyone who is wondering what it looks like in there. Maybe there is a way to rebuild it? One of us is an Electronics Engineering Tech so that would be right up our alley ;)

Awesome video and car team! I’m now wanting a CL55 from this video lol. I do restore / work too - on my channel I’ve just done my S600 full engine refresh - not easy work but rewarding when done :) will keep watching!
I find when the valve covers go bad on these after 2-3 days you get a oil smell and sometimes smoke on startup. I replace them then just (in my experience with the 113) hand tighten the new valve cover gaskets up lightly doing 3-4 stages of going around each cover bolt - that way it won’t leak as easy - my C55 wagon I recently did the covers, torqued them all then it started leaking because the imbalance of torquing up the bolts in one go rather than gradually 😊

yes, valve covers need to get looked at on this one also :)

Had similiar project last year where Ive restored w221 320cdi 2008 which was sitting since 2012. So many headaches and regrets + money. As im not mechanic the learning curve costed me at least 5 years of life :D. Now its running without any faults so its possible to make this cougar purr once again! Great series! Wish you a good luck!

Great job Petr!!! We do learn by doing! To us, digging into something new and figuring it out is half the fun! And if we can share some of the learning with you guys, or at least entertain you, then we are doing some good ;)

Nice find. Even though that is an older platform they are still awesome vehicles and you get a lot of car for your money. That body style is timeless.

It should have blue coolant , MB spec 235.0.
More 15 year maintenance are the valve cover gaskets and breather cover reseals , and also fit a new Bosch Crank position sensor.

Thanks for another episode.I ask you to organize a scanner for mercedes (xentry/DAS) because it will make further steps easier for you. since the engine has started, do it a service with oil flush and fill it with decent oil such as Liqui moly.
I hope that the documentation issues will not take ages and you will legally be able to show how well this car drives ;)
    KR , Nico

      Thanks for the idea!
I have been looking into some diagnostics solutions for Mercedes.
I have a few generic ones, but the Benz specific one is a little prices. I'll definitely check into it some more though!
Glad you are enjoying the series Nico!

That's how those engines sound the SOHC drive chain and the oil pump are so noisy on those cars, nothing wrong with that engine.

ya, it is hard to tell on camera...there was a tick until we changed the oil for sure. Sounds perfect now tho!
