I believe the J model is so much more powerful that it doesn't need JATO anymore. This was my only flight on a J, as I was an H loadmaster before our airframes retired
it is indeed! the J model unlike the T model is stock, having had only the unnecessary equipment removed from the back. anchor cables and reels, winch, ladder, seat bags and bomb rack etc.
The FE monitors systems, does preflight, serves as the loadmaster, and assists the pilots in emergencies. In the AF J world, there's no FE position. Only in the USMC
@@jackryan152 the P-3 FE would be more reminiscent of the C130s I flew on, the H2s. They actually had an AFSC and a long tech school at Little Rock. Few of my friends were going through FE school at the time I went through load school
The combat landing is probably my favorite bit. Sad the JATO takeoff went the way of the dodo but the climbout is still impressive.

Now thaaaat is skill!!!! owe mie gaahd. that was awesome!!!
Is this the retired RAF "J"?
This plane is so unusal. Lucky was able to see it and sit in the cockpit while it was in Austin years ago.

love how he keeps looking around his fancy HUD. And what does the FE do on J anyway?

@@ShortFinal big difference from the P-3 FE world.

The FE fixes S'mores for the crew and talks about the old days when he had a job.
J's don't have FE's, just Pilot, Co-Pilot and a loadmaster or two
How does one get to do this???
Have to be in the military and get on as an incentive ride.
@@ShortFinal Well darn, thanks though.
Wait what? Still using a Flight Engineer?
Loadmasters sit up front and in the back on the J model. On the H we only sat in the back with the FEs up front
