  • Today we tackle the age old question, what supermoto bike should you buy? Brian and Krino are coaches at Socal Supermoto and have ridden them all on both the street and track. Is there one we forgot? Comment below and thanks for watching!

    I do daily commute, highway and track... so I bought a 701 SM. No regrets after 6k miles. For track only, I'd get the FS450 in a heartbeat.

    Surprised I didn't see WR250X considered here. A little down on power to the DRZ but EFI, lighter, and 6 speed gearbox make it a better street bike without giving up a ton on track imo

    Sxv550 Aprilia.
    Surprised non of you brought it up.
    Have one clamped out with a slipper, shorter gearing, race suspension and exel supermoto wheels to fix the huge stock 5.5 rear rim down to 4.5 and this thing is the porn of supermoto.

      We LOVE a sxv. That said most riders are faster on 450s when it comes to lap times. So we have a amazing bike that's not the fastest for most kart tracks, and not reliable enough for the street, so it got a bit lost in the mix. It's rad though!

    • @PunkRokkMonkey
      @PunkRokkMonkey 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I *love* the SXV, it's not very accessible for a lot of riders (only produced in limited numbers from 2007-2010). Not to mention the parts availability/brief service intervals. I think this video is directed more at people who are looking for an simple solution and a more modern bike. The FS450 & DR-Z400S checks all the right boxes and are amazing track weapons. The 701/690 is just a ridiculously fun platform that you can also commute on. I think Brian & Krino were spot on with their answers.

    • @KrisjanisZagers
      @KrisjanisZagers 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm another SXV owner here. And as much as I love the damn thing (I'm on my second one - HEAVILY modified for track), it is NOT first choice for anyone.
      SXV is exotic, maintenance heavy, expensive bike. It also is borderline too powerful and difficult to ride. If you have the physical shape to keep the thing up in revs for entire session, I don't think there is a bike that can beat SXV. That said, the thing is hard work to ride. I have ridden many bikes this year and as much as it pains me to say it - SXV does NOT handle the best. And I have custom triple clamps, tuned forks, tuned shock, VDB swingarm, blablabla. It's also a lot more heavy just by feeling. It does compensate in some way with raw power - mine is the most powerful SM on whole track, but raw power only gets you so far.
      Another pain is maintenance and parts availability - SXV demands it and you better have local specialist who knows the bike inside out and also where to source the parts. I'm fully aware that the day will come when parts availability will be so limited, that I will no longer be able to service my own bike. Until that day comes, I'm in love with SXV. But it is by no means tells that it is the best supermoto. It might be my favorite, but I am not ashamed to say that I have ridden bikes that are way easier to ride and in real life - probably faster as well.

      Well rear you can set the sag, and I totally forgot to what lenth but it's all over on how to do that. The front I play with the clickers based on feel. compression i adjust by braking, rebound dampening: If it's twitchy and won't settle i increase dampening, if it doesn't want to come out of turns and wants to wallow, i decrease dampening. Which super moto/ dual sport do you think is close to equal to performance on and off road? I'm looking to do dirt riding with the family but I need to sell my xsr900 to help pay for machines and a trailer. I know I won't get the same street performance as the xsr but I want to get as close to it without sacrificing off road capability as well. I plan to run two sets of wheels and tires one for each discipline. I'm just trying to get as close to the best of all worlds as possible in terms of power, handling, and maintenence/ durability. I just geared my Dr.Z to 16/39 and LOVE it!! It's actually a street bike now. The only downside is it does not tractor off road like it used to. It can stall under 8mph now. More clutch work needed in the dirt. Otherwise, it's the best improvement for street use you can do for that bike. I have no idea why they don't do that at the factory on the SM.
