I get a kick out of the continuous inevitable, and sometimes unfair comparison between Arnel & Perry. First off - no matter how bad people would wish to have the 72 year old Perry sing these songs - fact is, he can no longer sing these songs, let alone withstand the rigors of touring at this level. Just buy the 1981 Houston performance and cherish it with all your heart - it was far and away Steve’s finest hour, not to mention one of THE best filmed and recorded performances of ANY group. Second - Arnel has carried this band for A LOT more performances and endless & brutal almost yearly tours, and keeping the flavor ALIVE!! Schon has put Arnel through the touring ringer for almost 15 years, singing rocks arguably most challenging catalog. He has good nights and not so good. Journey is back to playing arenas again, and underwent a resurgence most classic bands would give an arm and a leg for, and you can thank Mr Pineda for that!!👊👊

If it is because Arnel is a man of color, you are entitled to your opinion,you will never really like Arnel. Arnel is doing a good job, really good job,if not , he wouldn't even pique your interest to listen to him just to make the comparison. You can forever watch 1981 Houston performance then.

AP is the frontman of an international Rock Band. 15 years now and counting. His voice is outstanding and his showmanship is the best of any other band. He is a great vocalist and entertainer. The band plays their instruments to perfection. Their concert that I was just at on the Freedom Tour was excellent. Sold out audience! Love AP!
From Texas. He’s a dynamo. To keep up this pace night after night requires a lot of stamina for all of them but Arnel is the one who has to keep up the momentum to carry this off. Love Arnel. Love them all. Best band out there.

I've seen Journey 4 times back in the 80's, in St.Paul 3 times and at the Iowa State Jam. My friends and me saw Toto the night before the Iowa Jam. They were there along with Journey, Molly Hatchet, The Babys and a band called Off Broadway. That was an awesome concert! I caught a drum stick from the Babys but was so stunned and then someone took it out of my hands😢. Anyway they were all great concerts!

I was a fan of this band when they were unknown outside of the Bay Area. Today, the people in the front ten rows singing out loud are rich young women who weren’t even born yet when I was buying their first albums. Concerts in those early years had heart. Now, it’s all about the money. Flashy, costly productions, the best seats go to the highest bidder, and the youthful - mostly female audience - singing louder than the band. Why bother going anymore? I’m watching the whole show right here. Same exact show as the last several times. It’s all for the young, now. Ironically, Journey and the other 80’s bands reaping the harvest of this retro boom, are my age! For me, it’s rather pathetic and an insult too. I’d rather see an aged Steve Perry. At least he remembers those lean years - before the money train left the station.
Same area when it was the escape tour in 1981. St.Paul Civic Center. Was Steve Perry. The original Journey. To bad Steve left in 1998. 7 albums. Won awards with Steve Perry. Steve Perry left . He Was very much done. Was a lot of work. Travel. And sometimes. A person just had enough. I will never believe the media. That Neil fired Steve. There's bullshit. Even Jonathon said. When Steve said He Was done. He meant it. Let Journey continue playing. Steve Perry is still getting paid when Journey goes on tour. Arnel can sing the songs he wrote with Shin and Cain. What do you mean as long as they don’t record Arnel. They have a DVD out with him singing on it. They allow uploads of Arnel all over with him singing Perry-collaborations. (Because he rarely wrote a song all alone.)
I agree it’s a shame that Steve Perry and a few others are gone. But the rest of your rambling comment makes no sense. You don’t even have the facts right. I was a fan of the original Journey and Perry was not in it. They were an underground style rock band that sounded nothing like the pop-rockers they later became with Steve.
Arnel deserves credit for his heart being in it for sure, however he is a grown man and he also must realize he is not sounding too good. I can assure you that Neal and Jonathan can hear it . Neal smiles a lot and Jonathan frowns a lot they most likely can't help but hear it.
I've read the comment of Arnel's friend (the one who uploaded his videos) and said how he wanted to retire since he's well aware of his age and the toll of heavy touring with only few days of rest in between. I dont know how Neal pursuaded him to continue and do this tour. It felt like theyre milking the last drop out of Arnel. My heart aches to my fellow filipino, but im proud how he tries his best to give his all for every journey song.
Money must be how Neal convinced him otherwise no one in their right mind would do this to themselves hence one of the many reasons Steve left! Steve talked about being exhausted in many interviews "burnt out" it's got to be a grueling grind. Honestly my heart goes out to Arnel, I think it's time.
@@deekennerly3498 I watched that interview too. Steve was really concerned on his musical instrument (sic), which his voice back then. As for Arnel, he's a big time here in the Philippines. I suggest the rest of the band can just use the country as a retirement place. The monetary exchange is a sure win for them.

Looks like it was an awesome show but where were the new songs? They have a single out and are not even playing it? Strange. But it would have been an enjoyable show none the less. I'll go see them if they come to my area. I guess Randy Jackson isn't on bass after all?

And he's trying to make up for it with pointless screams at some pretty odd times in the song. The fact that so many people pretend to not notice make a sad statement about the attitudes of today's Americans who are willing to accept mediocrity without saying anything about it. Also noticable to me is the absence of Ross Valerie on bass. Ross is a better bass player than his replacement and the band has lost some chemistry as a result. I saw Journey with Steve Perry and I urge everyone to check out the Journey: Live in Houston,1981 DVD to put some accurate perspective on this tour. Also noteworthy is the their first live album titled Journey Captured.

It’s too bad Deen isn’t still with the band, he’s a badass drummer. Also miss Ross on bass, not the same without Ross. Other than that, they still sound on point.
Armed sounds better than he did in 2018, but he doesn’t sound great here either…Like he has laryngitis. But let’s face it…It’s hard to reach those notes as you get older. You have to take care of your voice, and that’s not easy when you have to hit tenor notes.
@@chrislouboutin9059 I don’t think they’ve been lowered across the board and for that long. He is in his 50. None of the Journey leads had proper vocal training. All of them could’ve sung into their 60s if they had trained.
@@PeachWNK yes they were lowered in 2012, in 2019 they went back briefly to the original key during their Las Vegas shows but Arnel really struggled with the songs.

This is not just a band for our entertainment it's a business as well. If little ole me in DFW can hear this and other people can hear it and agree then something is wrong. Saw them this night as well. Huge Journey fan and love these guys, but Arnel's voice is shot. He can still sing high, yes....but no longer hearing that Steve Perry timbre we all love. I could barely recognize the opening songs if not for the music of the band. They tried to cover it up with louder guitar/bass mix, longer solos every song (which got tiring fast believe it or not even with the great Schon), and Arnel tried to make it up with his athletisism running around the stage with his hoarse voice on the high notes. Jon you're a brilliant pianist, but we didn't fork over a ton a cash to attend a piano recital either....spare us with the extended piano solos. I'd rather hear Deen beat up the drums if Arnel needs a rest between songs. Add to that the bare bones stage, and with that a lack of chemistry amongst the band, it looked like a shameless cash grab. May as well call it "the Neil Schon needs more bon bons for his trophy wife tour."

Taking my wife in a week to a show. She is a neutral journey fan. She could not stay in the room with this video on. Not a good sign , the screaming Pineda was unbearable
WTH happened to Arnel's voice. I've seen Journey 8 times...twice with Arnel. He used to be able to sing these songs, but is now like fingernails on a chalkboard. The one positive...Neal stills exceeds expectations!

@@normadoria4804 As stated, the two times that I saw Arnel after he took the vocal reins of Journey, he was great (not SP, but still great). Anyone with an ear can hear how horrifically off-tune his vocals are in this concert and also in the Milwaukee concert from a week before. Maybe he is working through a cold or sore throat or whatever, but right now, his vocals are doing a disservice to the great catalog of Journey tunes. I have been going to Journey concerts since 1981, so I really don't give a crap about your hurt feelings (LMFAO)...get over it and move on.

This is terrible! Arnel's voice is ailing bad 😞! But everyone is pretending to not notice. Glad I didn't waste money on a ticket. Also glad I saw Journey in their prime with Steve Perry. I highly recommend the Journey Captured live album for those of you who need some accurate perspective on this performance.

I was a fan of this band when they were unknown outside of the Bay Area. Today, the people in the front ten rows singing out loud are rich young women who weren’t even born yet when I was buying their first albums. Concerts in those early years had heart. Now, it’s all about the money. Flashy, costly productions, the best seats go to the highest bidder, and the youthful - mostly female audience - singing louder than the band. Why bother going anymore? I’m watching the whole show right here. Same exact show as the last several times. It’s all for the young, now. Ironically, Journey and the other 80’s bands reaping the harvest of this retro boom, are my age! For me, it’s rather pathetic and an insult too. I’d rather see an aged Steve Perry. At least he remembers those lean years - before the money train left the station.

Same area when it was the escape tour in 1981. St.Paul Civic Center. Was Steve Perry. The original Journey. To bad Steve left in 1998. 7 albums. Won awards with Steve Perry. Steve Perry left . He Was very much done. Was a lot of work. Travel. And sometimes. A person just had enough. I will never believe the media. That Neil fired Steve. There's bullshit. Even Jonathon said. When Steve said He Was done. He meant it. Let Journey continue playing. Steve Perry is still getting paid when Journey goes on tour. Arnel can sing the songs he wrote with Shin and Cain. As long as Journey dose not record Arnel. Play the sings Steve did that's played on Radio. Or Steve could file a lawsuit . Just go watch them. And be nice about Arnel. He's making Steve Perry more rich singing.
What do you mean as long as they don’t record Arnel. They have a DVD out with him singing on it. They allow uploads of Arnel all over with him singing Perry-collaborations. (Because he rarely wrote a song all alone.)

I agree it’s a shame that Steve Perry and a few others are gone. But the rest of your rambling comment makes no sense. You don’t even have the facts right. I was a fan of the original Journey and Perry was not in it. They were an underground style rock band that sounded nothing like the pop-rockers they later became with Steve.
Steve Perry is often imitated but he will never ever be duplicated. This is like the Walmart Equate brand

Neal has been burning Arnel out for years now. You gotta give Anel credit for his heart thought very sad to hear him screaming and shouting like this.
Arnel deserves credit for his heart being in it for sure, however he is a grown man and he also must realize he is not sounding too good. I can assure you that Neal and Jonathan can hear it . Neal smiles a lot and Jonathan frowns a lot they most likely can't help but hear it.
I've read the comment of Arnel's friend (the one who uploaded his videos) and said how he wanted to retire since he's well aware of his age and the toll of heavy touring with only few days of rest in between.
I dont know how Neal pursuaded him to continue and do this tour. It felt like theyre milking the last drop out of Arnel. My heart aches to my fellow filipino, but im proud how he tries his best to give his all for every journey song.
Money must be how Neal convinced him otherwise no one in their right mind would do this to themselves hence one of the many reasons Steve left! Steve talked about being exhausted in many interviews "burnt out" it's got to be a grueling grind. Honestly my heart goes out to Arnel, I think it's time.

As for Arnel, he's a big time here in the Philippines. I suggest the rest of the band can just use the country as a retirement place. The monetary exchange is a sure win for them.

Has nothing to do with perfect people, simply put he doesn't sound good. He has done well for himself and everyone including Steve Perry gave him kudos so plz he is not this pitiful poor little guy. Changing the flow of the song in an attempt to make them his own is not working either !!
You just dont listen in a concert, you enjoy the whole perfirmance. Before you go there, accept that it wont be perfect anymore considering arnels aged voice.
Looks like it was an awesome show but where were the new songs? They have a single out and are not even playing it? Strange. But it would have been an enjoyable show none the less. I'll go see them if they come to my area. I guess Randy Jackson isn't on bass after all?

Saw Journey on the Raised on Radio tour. Best singing performance I've ever seen/ heard. Arnel is clearly loosing his voice here.

And he's trying to make up for it with pointless screams at some pretty odd times in the song. The fact that so many people pretend to not notice make a sad statement about the attitudes of today's Americans who are willing to accept mediocrity without saying anything about it. Also noticable to me is the absence of Ross Valerie on bass. Ross is a better bass player than his replacement and the band has lost some chemistry as a result. I saw Journey with Steve Perry and I urge everyone to check out the Journey: Live in Houston,1981 DVD to put some accurate perspective on this tour. Also noteworthy is the their first live album titled Journey Captured.

It’s too bad Deen isn’t still with the band, he’s a badass drummer. Also miss Ross on bass, not the same without Ross. Other than that, they still sound on point.

Armed sounds better than he did in 2018, but he doesn’t sound great here either…Like he has laryngitis. But let’s face it…It’s hard to reach those notes as you get older. You have to take care of your voice, and that’s not easy when you have to hit tenor notes.

Arnel only sings 2 nights in a row and has 2 backup lead singers to help him out and the keys are lowered for the songs already for 10 years.
@@chrislouboutin9059 I don’t think they’ve been lowered across the board and for that long. He is in his 50. None of the Journey leads had proper vocal training. All of them could’ve sung into their 60s if they had trained.
@@PeachWNK yes they were lowered in 2012, in 2019 they went back briefly to the original key during their Las Vegas shows but Arnel really struggled with the songs.

This is not just a band for our entertainment it's a business as well. If little ole me in DFW can hear this and other people can hear it and agree then something is wrong. Arnel has sounded way better than this several yrs ago, as I have mentioned already he had to dig deep to pull the voice out in 2018 but this is not good. I feel bad for him and honestly dont want him to be remembered as the front man that destroyed Journey !

Saw them this night as well. Huge Journey fan and love these guys, but Arnel's voice is shot. He can still sing high, yes....but no longer hearing that Steve Perry timbre we all love. I could barely recognize the opening songs if not for the music of the band. They tried to cover it up with louder guitar/bass mix, longer solos every song (which got tiring fast believe it or not even with the great Schon), and Arnel tried to make it up with his athletisism running around the stage with his hoarse voice on the high notes. Jon you're a brilliant pianist, but we didn't fork over a ton a cash to attend a piano recital either....spare us with the extended piano solos. I'd rather hear Deen beat up the drums if Arnel needs a rest between songs.
Add to that the bare bones stage, and with that a lack of chemistry amongst the band, it looked like a shameless cash grab. May as well call it "the Neil Schon needs more bon bons for his trophy wife tour."
Saw them in Milwaukee TWO days earlier.. Arnels voice was even worse.. TOTALLY strained.
Neal may need bon bons but I'm tired of hearing Arnel destroy those Iconic songs we all love. He sucked in 2018 and I paid a lot of money to see them, but Def Leppard was freaking amazing in 2018...

Taking my wife in a week to a show. She is a neutral journey fan. She could not stay in the room with this video on. Not a good sign , the screaming Pineda was unbearable

WTH happened to Arnel's voice. I've seen Journey 8 times...twice with Arnel. He used to be able to sing these songs, but is now like fingernails on a chalkboard. As Randy Jackson used to say "A little pitchy, Dawg"...more like can't hit a note! What a shame. I think I'll just go back to listening/watching Steve Perry Journey only. The one positive...Neal stills exceeds expectations!

@@normadoria4804 As stated, the two times that I saw Arnel after he took the vocal reins of Journey, he was great (not SP, but still great). Anyone with an ear can hear how horrifically off-tune his vocals are in this concert and also in the Milwaukee concert from a week before. Maybe he is working through a cold or sore throat or whatever, but right now, his vocals are doing a disservice to the great catalog of Journey tunes. I have been going to Journey concerts since 1981, so I really don't give a crap about your hurt feelings (LMFAO)...get over it and move on.
If Billy Idol had opened as scheduled, I think the vibe would have been kicked up a notch. It was fun but no fire!
Oh it was fire if you were there. the only thing is that it was an older crowd so it started to slow down during chain reaction but then it kicked right back up!
@@sjonbjornson8775 I was there and it has been the first time a band never came out for an encore at concerts I've been at. Arnel is good replacement, but like I said I could have used some Rebel Yell and White Wedding to launch into Journey on a high note.

This is terrible! Arnel's voice is ailing bad 😞! But everyone is pretending to not notice. Glad I didn't waste money on a ticket. Also glad I saw Journey in their prime with Steve Perry. I highly recommend the Journey Captured live album for those of you who need some accurate perspective on this performance.
No need for perspective. Some of us were old enough to catch the whole Journey history. I love the Augeri era, too, and Deen was/is a fantastic addition.
