    I like how you start this series with a concise definition of ‘game.’ People use the word in too many contradictory ways, which is part of why it becomes emotionally charged and divisive. By clearly defining ‘game’ you go a long way toward de-fanging this serpent and allowing application of rationality instead of dogma or emotionalism.

    This changed the connotation I had about it. It always sounded "cringy" to me, like people being fake & manipulative. Of course most anything can be abused, but now i see now it has a totally different meaning in reality. Thanks.

    The only thing I know about life is that you must stand up for yourself! And defend yourself when you know you are right! I can gave so many examples of people trying to fuck me over hard. For whatever reason people may perceive you one way based on their own prejudice etc. Or you can be dealing with jealousy, maybe they just don't like you, racism, etc. Then people wonder why you are so jaded. My advice to myself has always been keep pushing and growing, you know who you are! That's how I play the game!

      Here's what I wrote in response to Orion's video on choosing self-respect for oneself over relationships.
      Well, I don't know whether it's the types of people with whom I've tried to have relationships over the years, or the fact that I am happiest alone, but I never minded prioritizing my self respect over other things. As a Black man, having lived around Whites most of my life, 90 percent of Whites (with the way that they've been raised) automatically assume that if they accept you in their lives, that you would be in their lives, only if you're prepared to be the 'magical negro' (subservient, inferior, feckless, no love life of your own; you exist for their convenience and pleasure only). Given that state of affairs, the only way that I could live with myself, was to vigorously reject any relationships that smacked of such unjust and disgusting incongruence! There was a time when people like me were forced to act like this, in order to not be punished, but now we have choices, if we exercise them. I only brought up the racial component because it's been so pervasive and has caused so much harm in our society, and race is and has been the most undiscussed emotionally-charged topic in this country. Because of this, I can say that the trade off that I have made has been well worth it for me. Superficial relationships aren't worth sacrificing my self respect!

    The mystery within the context of these games is what determines why a person chooses certain games, but also how they play them. Like the example about honor vs. Survivability. What makes someone willing to die for their beliefs and others principles and standards are whichever way the wind blows just to survive or get ahead? One could say it's a matter of values, but what determines why a person chooses certain values/principles over others. That's a mystery that perhaps has no clear answer.

    • @psychacks
      @psychacks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're probably right, Mo. I don't think there is a clear-cut answer. I'm sure culture has to do with it, and reinforcement contingencies, and temperament. But it's likely too complex to model to any degree of satisfaction.

    A very interesting reality to me because by nature i am a very serious person, yet still i am told that i am to serious, however your putting over of the game or games allows me human feelings because i am not alone, thanking you again for this topic of choice and how it has allow this expression to have true meaning to me that "You Are Only Human" with this eppisode i can now destress with empowerment as this was a hurdle for me to experience and it now has made a lot of approaching my way forward more tolerant, looking forward to the follow up, God Bless Doctor and Take Good Care, Andrew.

      @@psychacks nice one Dr, using this game analogy and games usually have a blueprint to win or succeed. Do you think life has a certain blueprint to follow in other to succeed or win in life (no referring financial success but all that encompasses life ) ??

    • @psychacks
      @psychacks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ladyboss2944 That is a very interesting question. I think that the closest we've come to an answer is the great religions, which can be understood as a blueprint for navigating life successfully.
      My hunch is that there is no one blueprint that will always (or even generally) guarantee success across all of life's nested games. Or, if there is, it can't be apprehended. "The Tao that can be named is not the real Tao."

    Having recently stumbled on this series of vids, here is my response. (In the form of a reply.):
    This is why I identify myself as an Aristotelian egalitarian. If you are playing the game then you tend to rationalize your actions toward a "winning is everything" ethos. This tendency toward playing the game devolves into a zero sum transaction viewpoint. After all, the point of winning the game is winning.
    I can see the value in looking at problems and situations in this way because it serves as useful model. But I would be cautious about adopting this as a worldview or a guiding philosophy

    • @DaveReynolds-y3v
      @DaveReynolds-y3v ปีที่แล้ว

      Correction: The point of playing the game is winning.

    • @TimothyZhou0
      @TimothyZhou0 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Games and transactions do not have to necessarily be zero-sum. For instance, if I give a present to my friends and see it makes them happy, then I may also feel happy. Setting win conditions which also align with the win conditions of other players is sometimes known as "altruism" :)
      btw, I am also a big fan of Aristotle!

    Make sense similar to an idea I've been thinking about how survival, earning a living and thriving are layers that depends on the layer underpinning it. You can only drive if you're earning a living you can only earn a living if you're surviving

  • @pg618
    @pg618 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would say life is a serious game or a school of which you will graduate and where you go depends on decisions you made here. Don't be short-sided or the game turns into selfish warfare in order to survive and then still eventually die.
