    1930s Antique Sentry Safe Restoration - Perfect Restoration.
    Hello everyone. Here I am with a new restoration project. I have restored a very heavy antique belongs to early 1900s. (1930s) This safe weighs approximately 100kg (220.46 lbs) In this restoration I added wheels which weren't there originally. Lock mechanism of the safe wasn't original too. I guess that it might ve got broken in theft attempt. I found some hints about that incident. I believe the possibility of an attempt of fixing at 1970s there were a fixing residue on the lock mechanism because of some lock and some bolts from that time period. I renewed the lock mechanism completely. Now lock mechanism is clean and weldless. We can hear bolder sound as a result. So how I find this safe; I bougth it from and old Armenian woman. It belonged to women's husband. It was in his jewelry shop. And they brought it to their home. Since she wasnt using it she wanted to sell it. That way I have reached to this woman. I bougth it approximately a year ago. I feel very satisfied about this restoration . I hope that you will like it too. Don't forget subscribe to my channel and like these videos please. Thank you for watching.

    • @kellymeier579
      @kellymeier579 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@richardshackleton5681 Depending on the condition of the safe, dust rust etc., the door should lift up and off the hinges. I've had to use a pry bar or jack to get it started, but it should come off. It will be bulky, awkward and heavy so bring help. This will lighten up the body of the safe making it easier to move. Good luck 👍

      Do you speak German? Because I (a German native) think that "Meine Mechaniker" is not the intended translation for "My Mechanics". It is technically correct but a "Mechaniker" is a person who repairs and maintains technical stuff, usually machines. The plural of "Mechaniker" is "Mechaniker" as well. So, "Meine Mechaniker" means something like "My persons who repair things". How many persons are involved here? I think that he actually wanted to have "Meine Mechanik", where "Mechanik" denotes some kind of machinery.

    I enjoyed the craftsmanship in this safe. However I really don't understand putting wheels on a safe. The purpose of a safe is to make it difficult to steal your items. Putting it on wheels just makes it easier to wheel your valuables away and get at it in a more secure location to crack for the thief. You want to make a safe more difficult to move not easier.

    • @jpa3141
      @jpa3141 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No thief would dare scratch that paintwork. Though they might steal it for the safe itself..

      But safes do often have casters.

    • @jimmyfleebot
      @jimmyfleebot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I grew up in South Africa where house robbery is a daily consideration. At least in our home, we considered our safe a time waster to discourace thieves from spending too much time at the home, not a full on prevention method. Thats what banks are for. The time it takes to crack a safe is generally less than that required to wheel it out of the house and then load it onto a waiting large vehicle. Large angle grinders, oxy torch or even just 3 guys each putting their full weight into large prybars are all much more than most standard safes are designed to withstand. Casters or no, a small pallet‐jack will wheel out even massive safes, makes no difference to a committed thief.
      I guess what I'm saying is that the old adage still applies. "Locks only keep the honest man out."

    • @jeremymartin1957
      @jeremymartin1957 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The wheels were never really meant for security, they were a convenience thing, where your office may have several safes like this that get moved in and out of a large locked room or safe daily - safer and holds more then a money bag.

Well done. I also like how the item you restored isn't an item most restorers on youtube do. Me scrolling through my recommendations this morning and seeing a safe! I had to see. Even wet sanded! Come on now. Looking for perfection. My kinda dude. Thx for the 30 minutes not wasted. 👍. I look forward to videos.
