Opportunity to learn English in general or at a young age. You don’t see much of these types of scammers run by East Asia countries because their English isn’t good or they never learned it. Whereas in India the conditions are more common. Jumping off the last paragraph but accent and quality comes into play too, although their English but not be too notch it’s good enough to scam. In addition, large companies like Comcast and Eva Airlines source some of their support calls to India. Lack of authority, despite scamming be illegal nothing is really done to prevent it. They are some scam centers they are closed down but the barriers of entry is low and another one can and will pop up. A lone person can scam if they wanted too just need a phone and a PC. This is why you don’t see scam centers in US because they are shut down.

They called me and told me that I owed $2,864. I said OH that is great because I just got a letter from the IRS that I owed over $8,000. Can you please give me your GOV ID# from the IRS so I can send them the lesser amount. HE hung up!

The IRS can call you. I’ve been called a few times, once to let me know that I forgot to include a W-2 with a return. I was asked to mail it to the same address as the return. Nobody asked for any personal, identifiable information. Scam calls are pretty obvious. Give them a false name and they’ll confirm it’s the person they looking for.
It’s not true anymore, as of the past year or so. The IRS is working with at least one debt collection agency to try to collect on outstanding debt. However: I’d think that folks would be aware of this outstanding debt in the first place-that if you’re being called or if you receive levy paperwork, it’s another link in the chain of events that has happened previously. It’s not supposed to be some big surprise that you owe money to the IRS by the time the IRS reaches out to you again.

My friend actually fell for this scam. They gave her name & badge number but said that her ID had been stolen and they needed her help to catch the person. They told her she needed to transfer her savings to a “safe” account that they gave her….and unfortunately she did that. When she didn’t hear back from them a week later, she suspected it was a fraud. Very sad, she lost a lifetime of savings.
My parents and I used to get scam calls all day long, and, whenever I had some free time while I was home alone as a teenager, I would mess with the scammers, just for the sake of pissing them off. Ohhhhh my God, that was so funny!!! 😂 Needless to say, I had plenty of summer entertainment.

I was terrified to the point of leaving my house and going to a place directed by them based on information he had on me. It was so real and seemed to go on for hours. I’ll never forget it as long as I live. Of course it was a scam and in the end I worked it out, but not before I was deeply affected and very frightened, though I had done nothing wrong. Ask them how to properly spell their name so you can have a grave marker ready for them. Also ask them who their next of kin is so they will be notified where their body is. If they get annoying, tell them to go eat a cow.
This happened to me two years ago. I told him that he had one week to have the police come and put me in jail, before I turned his phone number over to the F.B.I. He started sobbing and saying "oh no" over and over, and then hung up on me.

They asked what his outstanding balance on all his cards was and he said he didn't have any debt (which he didn't). They then asked him if he didn't want to have more money available to play with for day to day expenses. He said, "I've got more if that damned stuff than I know what to do with!" (Which he did!) And then he hung up. Too funny!

I got one of those scammer IRS calls, what a joke, I said to the lady, you're not even from America, what do you think I'm an idiot? She said " oh F" and hung up. It was classic fun, only wish I'd have strung her out for a while to prolong the fun. I'd been getting regular calls from them, till that day, never heard back again. I guess they knew it was a waste of time at that point and just moved on to the next potential victim.
