In some states, the Judge is allowed to interject and ask questions of the witness in the way she has been. But I do agree, it feels like a tremendous amount of hand-holding is going on with this attorney. idk if it is an act of abundance of caution in order to prevent an appeal win.

Watching this defense attorney entirely validates my decision not to pursue a law degree and a bar around the time covid hit. I have a different highly esteemed profession and something about my exam proctors and advisors at the law schools reacting to what I already had been doing with my adult life took me by surprise. Made me feel like if all these law professors are jealous of my life I probably shouldn't waste my time and money doing this. Now I totally see why. I know children who can make a better defense than this. As far as the judge I don't think she's helping the defense so much as she's stressing and trying to make sure everything gets fleshed out as she'll be under scrutiny for this for the rest of her career and all these things will make a difference going forward as I'm sure we can all expect. I felt like the Judge for the Darrel Brooks case could have been criticized in the same way because how many judges would really put up with that guy's crap? I think all that had more to do with being thorough and exercising the utmost professionalism and integrity so that when it's over it can just be over.

Why do you think there’s so much animosity towards so many of them? 🙄🤦🏻♀️ Again, winning is not the ultimate goal for everyone - not even necessarily for most *all the time*. Countless lawyers take jobs, especially high profile, highly publicized/scrutinized cases, every single day, all over the world because it’s guaranteed consistent $$$ for a significant period of time, often years, and because it is guaranteed exposure for themselves. He now looks like a fool in the fire department and his wife. I hope that he gets fired. He's on the stand trying to keep his job now. He wants his pension from the taxpayers. That's what he's really protecting. It's all about the pension money upon retirement
I think the testimony regarding the affair is only important to show that Jennifer had priorities far above and beyond Ethan's pressing cries for help. I hope the jury sees it in the same light.
I hope that this firefighter guy loses his job over this. He's only testifying about the affair to protect his lifetime pension benefit. He doesn't deserve a pension
The prosecution seem to be the only professionals. If Jennifer had kept her legs closed, sold her horses and kept of that app maybe she would have had time for ethan😅
Well we know that the affair partner is no professional. He's testifying to protect his lifetime pension benefit. I would fire him. He doesn't deserve a pension
THIS JUDGE SHOULD HAVE RECUSED HERSELF. She clearly favors the defense for some strange reason because that defense attorney is incredibly out of her league in a courtroom.
It's a hard job. The state has a huge team.. Unlimited resources... She has just her...maybe one person to help her... Thousands of documents to go through.. Pressure of trial being on tv live... Yes she seems to be new. But I guarantee you she will get better. Especially being thrown in the fire like this.
This is the first time I've seen Smith just a complete train wreck. makes me wonder if he receives some constructive criticism and is now not trying to focus so much on (in her words.... her 'badass female lawyer') persona but more on crumbleys defense.
I don’t see why this guys affair with JC had anything to do with the murders? For the defense lawyer to dwell on their affair just lends more credence to the fact she neglected her son. That’s the prosecutions job. This lawyer is nuts !
Being a defense lawyer is extremely challenging, the prosecution has so much more on their side. I’m sure the judge was being empathetic to the difficulties of this case considering a lot of the case is built of perception. The “facts” in this case were subjective details. Painting an accurate picture to the jury is crucial.
Exactly! People watch TV shows and think it's like that. Or think they could do better. Did she do amazing? No. But everyone has to start somewhere. Also she doesn't have a huge team working for or with her. Unlike the state does. Thousands of pages of documents to go through... The pressure of having the trial streamed live... Ect ect...
It’s disgusting how JC paid for this defense lawyer but her son for a court appointed lawyer. But it’s good that JC & JC got 10 to 15 years - they really could have prevented these murders. Their son pleaded a long time for help. Their house was filthy & they had no problem with Ethan drinking & having liquor bottles in his room.
This fire department guy should be fired. He obviously aided and obviously bedded a fugitive. No pension for him. He actually gave his mistress legal advice after a crime to protect her
Yes. I thought all this information about Jennifer Crumbleys affairs are only used- inappropriately, to villify her. I thought this misjudged, given the issue here was Jennifer Crumbleys neglecting to take responsibility for the gun- securing the gun, specifically. Ethans mental status- beyond the fact that he was an adolescent at the time of the shooting, was misunderstood and mishandled by all the adults concerned with Ethan.
what does the affair have to do with this. he was some what involved in you ask me He should have said I don't want to be involved and call law enforcement
Deplorable hater's ACT like the Crumbly parents pre-orchestrated this horrible event and wanted mass murder...! People haters need the love of God in in their lives, not punishment courts based on retaliation, anger and hate! (NOT GUILTY)...!
I want to give this female lawyer the benefit of the doubt and assume she’s probably very nervous. However, she needs to watch a few episodes of “suits” and watch the episodes when they do kangaroo court to practice or prepare for trial. She also might not ever be great in court and could use her law degree to be corporate attorney helping firms go over important documents, because trail attorney might be a stretch for her right now. Her client is going to end up getting the electric chair after she’s done with her defense.
I guarantee you nobody is perfect on the first few cases in court. The state has huge amount of resources.. Huge team of people... It's not easy. Especially with thousands of pages of documents to go through. Trial also streamed on tv.

In some states, the Judge is allowed to interject and ask questions of the witness in the way she has been. But I do agree, it feels like a tremendous amount of hand-holding is going on with this attorney. idk if it is an act of abundance of caution in order to prevent an appeal win.
@@Asisya18 I think it’s more about she’s letting her personal opinions dictate how she precides on the case. She’s one of the parents who don’t want this important precedent to be established.

This defense is an absolute embarrassment
Defense EFFED up. Also, she has seemed lost this entire trial; like it's her very 1st one. However, she is actually a top 100 national trial lawyer. Crazy!
I don't see how she's a top attorney because the judge is doing her job for her. Questioning the witness for her because she don't know how seems wrong. I'm sure the prosecution is paying attention to what the judge is doing.
What?? That’s crazy
She was Larry Nassar’s attorney at one point.
She’s definitely an experienced attorney; if she’s got you all fooled into thinking she’s a newbie, that was definitely coming across to the jury.
The airhead, pretending-I-just-graduated-from-Law-School routine she put on throughout this trial is a very intentional act.
She’s attempting to gain sympathy by pretending to struggle through everything, hoping the jury just ends up feeling bad that she is even having to do a case like this that is so horrific.
“Poor lady, she’s just having such a hard time.”
It seems annoying for us to watch, because we’re far enough removed, but I’ll bet the atmosphere in that room was pretty intense, and she’s VERY manipulative.
She was trying to bet more on gaining sympathy for HERSELF throughout the trial, because she didn’t have a ton of faith people were going to have much, if any, empathy for her client.
Definitely a move. Risky, and obnoxious, but a move.
You can hate her, but it honestly was very likely Crumbley’s best chance at beating these charges.
She did her job.
Aaand this is also why people have so much hate towards lawyers. Each have their own tactics & interpretations of the law & strategies on how they’re going to represent their clients, but they’re not always easy, often maddening, to watch unfold.
Defense attorney goes ftom gaffe to gaffe.
I guarantee Jennifer will have a hearing for a new trial based on ineffective council.
You made a good statement. She will get a new trial I think. And her firefighter affair partner will have to take the stand again and testify. LOL
I can't believe this guy even communicated with her after all this. She was on the run with her husband, and he was still engaging with her.
He liked what she gave him🫣
This affair partner does not deserve to be a firefighter. And he doesn't deserve no lifetime pension. That's all he protecting us his pension. He obviously used this poor woman for a piece on the side.
SHE said "this could have been prevented"?!?! That’s rich.
I have to wonder how many trials for defense attorney? 🤔 Her style of repeating repeating and leading is madness!!!
She was actually the lawyer for another really big case before
She was Nassar’s attorney at one point.

Can someone tell me why so much focus on this affair? I may have missed it.
If you are criminally charged with a crime and it goes to trial. They will dig up any dirt on you from your past. It makes you look bad in front of the jury. So the affair is on the table
This judge interjects over and over to ask the question directly to the witnesses on behalf of the defense. I have never seen it before. It is so clear she is bias and pro defense and I don’t know why. Its shocking really.

I think all that had more to do with being thorough and exercising the utmost professionalism and integrity so that when it's over it can just be over.

she is really prepared. fumbling through paperwork
I really hope this defense attorney has her own practice because she won’t have to fire herself. I’m so curious how she got this case or how Jennifer found her?

@@Ladybird.21 Larry Nassar? No decent attorney wanted that case because he was definitely going away for the rest of his life. Being Larry Nassar’s attorney is nothing to hang your hat on. She did such a good job on his case that he’s never going to see the light of day. Oh wait are you saying she did a good job with Larry because he didn’t get the death penalty? That’s hilarious. Freaking hilarious & ignorant AF all at once to think that lawyers A) don’t have a problem representing absolutely horrible people (and do you not think THIS woman she represented is awful!? Wtf.)
She’s a DEFENSE attorney. Awful people also need lawyers.
Money is the ultimate goal for countless lawyers, everywhere. Why do you think there’s so much animosity towards so many of them? 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Again, winning is not the ultimate goal for everyone - not even necessarily for most *all the time*.
Countless lawyers take jobs, especially high profile, highly publicized/scrutinized cases, every single day, all over the world because it’s guaranteed consistent $$$ for a significant period of time, often years, and because it is guaranteed exposure for themselves.
Of course LN was going away. That doesn’t matter. Do you really not understand how this system works?😂🤦🏻♀️
There’s a lot of other awful people out there in positions of power, authority, and status who will eventually get busted for something, and she’s a hot commodity. LN is far from the only big name she’s represented too, but that was a huge case.
Guilty people remember things like this and reach out to these people when they eventually get caught too.
This is how the world works, this is how defense attorneys get cases.
She’s one of the top attorneys in the country - she’s doing just fine. Your opinion is irrelevant.🤡
This Defense Attorney, Shannon Smith seems in over her head…
she should have to stay behind her desk. Not one time has the defense say anything about those poor children killed and wounded people
Watch Jennifer Crumbley get her conviction overturned on appeal due to ineffective counsel.
If that guy is married I wonder what she is saying about all of this. I would dump in a heart beat
He’s married. And was married at the time. No wonder he has to keep being instructed to speak up.
I also dislike the tactic of saying correct at the end of each question... shady
Awful lawyer. Whoever is unfortunate to get her has conviction guaranteed. I hope no innocents ever get this woman. Daddy must have connections....
All I can hear is cough, cough, cough, cough and cough - whoever it is in the court room that is coughing all the time needs to get out of the room
Probably a smoker
I want to see Bruce Rivers CLR react to this 😂
The defense attorney is testimony not the witness ! Iam shocked the judge is letting this happen.
Witch hunt? Sounds like guilty, and this defense attorney should work for the apprentice... JHC
These 3 deserves to be buddies. Dumb bf, attorney, mama
Defense attorney appears to be unprepared
It's a hard job. The state has a huge team.. Unlimited resources... She has just her...maybe one person to help her... Thousands of documents to go through.. Pressure of trial being on tv live... Yes she seems to be new. But I guarantee you she will get better. Especially being thrown in the fire like this.
Correct?
Does James know this?
I can’t stand this judge or Any of the attorneys on either side
I hope that this firefighters wife is watching this testimony. LOL
This is the first time I've seen Smith just a complete train wreck. makes me wonder if he receives some constructive criticism and is now not trying to focus so much on (in her words.... her 'badass female lawyer') persona but more on crumbleys defense.
I love it 3 women (judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney) deciding whether a 4th woman will go to jail for neglecting her children
What does that matter what sex the people are
This poor girl is struggling 😮😮
Her questions have no bearing on the case at hand. What’s her point with any question ? She’s just going over reports and has no strategy at all.
This sets up JC for a retrial stating her defense attorney was no good and she wasn’t.
Worst defense attorney. I'm confident with a better defense, this woman would've walked.
The witness is obviously lying. He knows a lot more than he's telling. What a liar
Shannon Smith is the worst. The absolute worst. 😅
I don’t see why this guys affair with JC had anything to do with the murders? For the defense lawyer to dwell on their affair just lends more credence to the fact she neglected her son. That’s the prosecutions job. This lawyer is nuts !
OMG! Everyone is so annoying! Including the witness! What a marble mouth witness. He seems drunk!!!
What a kangaroo court
Ect ect...
I think the defense attorney is so abysmal that the judge is embarrassed for her.
She belongs to the street.
This fire department guy should be fired. He obviously aided and obviously bedded a fugitive. No pension for him. He actually gave his mistress legal advice after a crime to protect her
Guilty of aiding and "a-bedding"
Iam not surprised she was struggling they just dragged off the street shes a night crawler
what does the affair have to do with this. he was some what involved in you ask me He should have said I don't want to be involved and call law enforcement
Lol. You want him charged too? Man I hope your brothers wife’s cousin gets charged and they come for you too.
This defense lawyer needs more practice in the courtroom before representing someone !
Huh !! Jennifer hot thr $1 store lawyer !
Deplorable hater's ACT like the Crumbly parents pre-orchestrated this horrible event and wanted mass murder...! People haters need the love of God in in their lives, not punishment courts based on retaliation, anger and hate! (NOT GUILTY)...!
the firefighter should have been arrested and charged as an accomplice.
You’re crazy.
That firefighter should be fired. He's only protecting his lifetime pension for retirement
Wasted an hour of my life listening to this. She reminds me of Alina Habba. Moving on to another video.
😊
