Nintendo's renders having just a few pieces of ultra detailed work is actually an ingenious way of making the entire piece seem more detailed than it actually is. A random thing you can hone-in on and see the love and craftsmanship put into it goes a long way in making your art feel and look high end.
This is what really stood out to me. Nintendo's choices on what to make ultra-detailed in renders, along with what they chose to leave as cartoonish. Usually though it's clothes/hair that gets tons of detail, while the characters themselves (skin, eyes, mouth etc) look simple enough.

Also, what really bothers me is the fact that there is a "hole" in his hair where you can see the skin underneath. Just look at 13:30. And I honestly think it is the same thing with the so-called "grey hair" at 20:00.

Nick is not going to like the new Chris Prattio movie. They increased the photorealistic detail EVEN MORE.
Lots of big brand CGI characters use a hair particle system these days, especially for animation and promo artwork. Overwatch does it for their promos, Pixar humans have it whenever they're actually present, and even anthropomorphic characters like Judy Hops and Po Panda have fur simulation.
One time, I woke up, not being able to move.
"hair mario" was hovering over me like a quivering vulture. He was weeping and shaking, running his hands through his hair.
He didn't say any words. It was as if his throat could only let out quiet panic sobs and guttural gasps.
He kept looking at his big plastic cartoon hands each time they left his photo-realistic hair-head.
I soon noticed that patches of hair were missing on his scalp.
Sometimes clumps of damp hair clung to his big dumb palms.
These clumps smelled musty, like a dog who just finished rolling around in freshly cut grass.
Mario's eyes and mouth screamed, although there was no sound.
Then he stopped, frozen in an expression of silent horror, before he grabbed my hand.
And forced it into his hair.
Again and again he made me feel it. "It" was the unspeakable torment Mario felt for on his head. He could not escape what grew out of his scalp.
"It" was attached to his head like a blood-sucking lamprey. "It" was a monster. "It" made Mario a monster. Now Mario was infecting me too!
Again and again, Mario's vice-like grip forced my fingers through the strands of his hair...
... until a horrendous howl finally broke free from the rusty cage of his vocal chords.
That's when I blacked out.
I just woke up. And this video is playing. Mario is gone. The door to my house is wide open.
At first, it sounded like a sleep paralysis problem.
That was a lot for me😂😂
