  • @CricketsWorldJC

The dad having a stroke really hit me hard. Around 1991-1992 my poor dad, 57, had a massive stroke that partially paralyzed the right side of his body and affected his speech. When he got back home from the hospital he was so angry, frustrated, sad, and depressed. However, more than anything, he was determined to get as close to his normal self as possible. He worked so hard at physical therapy. Some days were more difficult than others, for all of us. (dad, mom, brother, sisters, grandchildren, and myself) Seeing the strongest mom and dad, ever in life, look tired and afraid was absolutely heartbreaking but they never gave up, my dad fighting for his recovery and his family, my mom fighting for his recovery and her family. I am the youngest of the children and I was 15 at the time. We were all old enough to do everything for ourselves and help our family as much as possible. It took about two years but my dad made such an amazing recovery that if you didn't know he'd had a massive stroke, you couldn't tell he had one at all. All of that is to say that I hope OP's dad will continue to to get better. Also, I wonder if OP's mom stressed and irritated his dad so much it ended up causing the stroke.

I kinda wish the mom was forced to pay back what she stole from her husband but at least she can't do much else & it seems like she's going to be homeless due to refusing to get a job. It's disgusting that she's such a terrible person that to the end thanks to how use she is to mistreating people she didn't realize it was a terrible idea & is what led to her current situation.
The mom is alone, penniless & shunned by her family. She'll never enjoy the good life again, she'll never see both of her sons let alone the one she clearly favored more, she will never get to see her grandson nor see Dean finally have a kid. She will never get the high class life nor get to be a grandmother & it's all her fault.

At one time, after meeting potential inlaws, if it didn't go well, most times the relationship ended. To have to live in a family that didn't except you, you are asking for a lifetime of suffering and resentment. Love is NOT enough. Without the support of both families you have nothing.

Thing ism, she's a selfish, hateful woman. They're lucky it all went her way. I wouldn't be surprised if Dean had been shot dead when he entered with the divorce papers, and they found his remains in the charred remnants of the house. Of course, the mom would not actually get away with it, and would spend her last days on death row.

as a member of the food industry since 1996.... you have NO IDEA how many time i have heard people complain that they are 'over qualified' for it because of degrees and that.... like oh sweetie, food industry about to eat you alive!!!! I make this shit look EASY..... and when i let them off on their own and take my days off they have no idea wtf is going on because i multi task like a machine.... i worked 3 or 4 hours more after getting a 2nd degree burn on my boob... i mean anyone who thinks food service is 'easy' should be required to do it during the summer at a tourist destination......

Just because she's mom doesn't mean she's deserving of anything, any relationship goes both ways not just one, then stick the ATM in a nursing home...

Divorce doesn’t work that way in the US. Depending on the state there’s usually a waiting period of between 6 months to a year. Also, even if he bought the house during the marriage, it would still be considered marital assets and the house would most likely have to be sold and the money split between the spouses. He can’t just throw her out.

The decision of marital property division would either be agreement between husband and wife or a family court judge. It would be easier to cut ties if they moved out and left her with the house.

So I know that this is a fictional story but there are aspects of this story that disturb me.
I don’t know what eviction laws are like in other countries but in America they’re very strict.
For example, it’s against the law to kick someone out of their long term home with only a 30 minute notice.
There’s a mandatory 30 day notice that must be given in order to evict someone.
Perpetrating this kind of inaccuracy could be taken literally by someone who doesn’t know better and cause them make a poor choice based on wrong info.
Also the fact that she was a stay at home wife means that, (I know this is fiction but what the hey?) they have to go to court for a division of assets, depending on the state, and being totally dependent on her husband is a huge factor in who gets what.
Finally, I know the mom character is a narcissistic jerk but stooping to her level with insults and petty meanness is like rolling in the mud with the pigs.
It’s better for the soul to rise above the darkness.
I like stories that provide vicarious vindication but the nascent justice warrior in me craves fictional justice. (That’s why I love the Jack Reacher movies and series.)
