    This was very helpful. You clearly and simply explain (and stop action!) to allow viewers to fully understand all the steps in hanging a picture. Thank you very much!

    I really like the double knot. The only thing I would do differently is wrap the twice through the D ring and then do the twisting etc.

    Tip: Instead of marking directly on the wall, lightly put a piece of painters masking tape in the appropriate spot and pencil mark on that. That way you don't run the risk of covering the wall with pencil marks if you get the measurements wrong, and the pieces of tape can be easily removed once the artwork is correctly positioned and the hook/screws are in place and the painting hung.

      ✏️ Thanks for the tip! I should have included that in the video! That's will be especially helpful if the paint has a flat finish. Semi gloss paint has a slicker finish which makes it easier to erase the pencil marks. Another tip is to use those inexpensive mechanical pencils because the graphite they use in those seems leave lighter marks that are easier to erase.

      I saw a diagram of it on a package of picture wire a couple decades ago, and have been using it ever since! 🙂

    This is so interesting watching you attach wire to the back of your artwork. Questions: What kind of wire are you using? It looks like vinyl covered? What size, and where do you buy it? I am experimenting with different kinds of wire for hanging art that weighs 5 to 15 lbs. I hate the unraveling of the braided wires that poke your fingers! and where do you get those cool little things you adhere to the back, bottom corners of your work so that your wall does not get scratched? thanks again so much for your expertise! Melanie

      Hi Melanie, I use the vinyl coated wire because as you noticed, the regular wire unravels and sticks into your fingers. You can buy it from a hardware store and I also have links in the description to where you can buy it online (I also included links to where you can buy the rubber bumpons that you stick to the back of the frame). The wire should have a rating on the packaging for how much weight it can safely hold. It shouldn’t be hard to find wire that holds 5-15lb. I hope this helps, good luck!

    Hi, just wanted to check if this works on concrete wall, or does it depend on the frame hanger?

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  ปีที่แล้ว

      The hangers that I show in this video are for regular drywall. They do make concrete hangers, masonry anchors, and even adhesive hangers. But unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations because I've never had to hang anything on a concrete wall.

    Do you happen to have any tips for hanging paintings on plaster walls?

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's fairly similar, I know that plaster is harder than drywall. So maybe drill a pilot hole so the plaster doesn't chip or crack as you pound the nail into it.

    How do you hang a large frame if the triagle hook is turned sideways. And each triangle is at the top and bottom of this large mirror frame???

      Those are called screw eyes, you can get them at any hardware store.

    What type of wire do you use? I keep buying the wrong kind.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the last brand I bought was Ook, but the others are okay too. I do recommend getting the kind that has a plastic coating on it because it’s easier on your hands. The kind that doesn’t have the plastic coating-the ends tend to unravel and poke your skin as you’re trying to tie it. Other than than, you just want to make sure the wire is rated to be strong enough to hold the weight of whatever it is that you’re trying to hang.

    Is there as size and weight where you would do d rings and hangers on each side rather than a wire?

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would just follow what the manufacturer recommends on the packaging-most hanging hardware is rated for weights greater than what a typical painting weighs. So in most cases it's just a matter of what you prefer. Even some of the drywall picture hanging hooks are even rated up to 100 pounds. I'm not sure I would want to make paintings that weight 100 pounds though! 🙂

    • @ShimonDC
      @ShimonDC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrisBreier thanks. I'll explain better. I have a painting that has D rings already mounted. I was thinking of adding wire across the back and hanging it from the wire. But I don't know if it makes more sense to just hang straight from the D rings. I think wire allows for a little more adjustment but I would still need two hangers that are level.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As you mentioned, it will be easier to level the painting if you attach a ire to the d hangers and then hang it from the wire.

    What if you have a metal frame picture???

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends upon the type of frame. Some inexpensive metal frames are meant to be displayed on a desk and not a wall. Others have what are called saw tooth hangers which arent that great of a solution. The better quality metal frames usually come with hardware that you can tie the picture hanging wire to. The hardware is just a flat metal piece with a hole in it. It slides into the grooves on the back of the frame, and they're held in place by a screw that tightens.
