My face is peeling like a snake from Tretinoin right this moment. Ugh. I will check out the alternatives. Just sad because everyone says Tretinoin is the golden standard product for youthful skin as far as topical products go.
You may be able to use the tretinoin is you buffer it until your skin gets used to it. You can do this with a moisturizer or serum underneath and on tip of your tretinoin. However, it is normal to be dry after starting a retinol product. Your skin in most cases will adjust but if it doesn't then you should seek some alternatives and build up over time.
I hope you are using tretinoin on a dry face with a layer of good hydrating moisturizer. I started tretinoin a month ago, and did multiple patterns to get used to it or see how it works for me. what are you doing on non-tretinoin days? i just started using 0.1% tretinoin after a couple years of using 0.05% and so far haven’t experienced any peeling or irritation: hydration plus gentle, controlled exfoliation when needed is the key to avoiding peeling, dryness, and irritation. i do one night of tretinoin (using the sandwiching method), followed by two nights of hydrating toner, peptide serum, OTC retinol, and a really thick moisturizer. i tend to wake up with peeling so in the AM, i use a peeling gel OR massage with a cleansing balm to help remove the dead skin before rinsing, vit C serum, and sunscreen. whenever my skin feels dry or tight, i’ll put on a thick layer of nivea cream. obviously, be really careful about exfoliating while using tretinoin, and stop if your skin gets too dry or irritated.
