Yeah reading the books after the movies and it seemed much better that he was not calm at all. Thats something that would raise anyones fears and worry for a child @zoew_
@@zoew_ Considering that Dumbledore knows about Harry`s importance and destiny, he, of course, would be concerned. Harry could die in this tournament. Dumbledore could not allow Harry to die before being strong enough to face what was coming at the end. That`s why I think his reaction in the movie was far more logical than the calm reaction in the book.
It's just not in his character. He's worried, but he's also incredibly smart and reflective, so he knows he must not lose his head. Also, he's always calm. For example, at the end of the book, when he confronts Barty Crouch Jr., he's livid, yet calm: Harry knows he's that angry because of the aura he emits. And that makes him that much scarier. Sorry but if you know the character, there is no comparison between movie and books.
In defense of Ron, he was being a dick here but he is a 14 year old insecure teenager who constantly feels overshadowed by his family and his friends, I think I was much more of a douche that age, and basically all of his redeeming qualities, moments of bravery and great friendship moments have either been cut out of the movies or been given to Hermione instead, so sadly a lot of reactors or people who have never read the books end up not liking him (understandably) as he has too little upside in the movies
Yeah which I’m fairly sure I included in the reaction that he’s just young and the films don’t do him service from what I heard. That’s the problem with reactions hey, that’s what it is… a reaction, not a deep analysis. Would like to read the books sometime.
@@thecocoacouch no worries mate you did say that in your reaction, it was more of a general statement, didn’t mean to come off as criticism of your reactions, really enjoy these (and the Friends ones and a many others too), and I can totally understand your sentiments. The books are great, but ngl it’s very time consuming to read them all and it’s hard to find time for that these days, but by all means if you do it, you probably won’t regret it
Can highly recommend the audio books by Stephen Fry. They're the reason I got Audible and allowed me several more "read-throughs" in my adult years since I can listen while cleaning, traveling etc. Would highly recommend the books in any case as they offer a ton more details, insights, explanations and "side stories".
Another theory for why Ron is acting this way: hormones. In the last film, Harry and Hermione were both a little 'extra' and aggressive. Harry was pushing back at Uncle Vernon and his sister Marge, at Snape, and other authority figures. Hermione was the same, overly sensitive and angry at Professor Trelawney, then punching Draco in the nose and slapping Harry's hand off her time-turner. And then there was Hermione unconsciously reaching for Ron at Hagrid's hippogriff class, embracing Ron at the thought of Buckbeak getting killed, etc. At 13, puberty had come to Harry and Hermione. In THIS film, Ron is a late bloomer; puberty arrived with a vengeance. Bitter about his 'friend', the famous and celebrated Harry Potter, being allowed to bend the rules and compete for eternal glory and also not taking Ron into his confidence! Hermione swept up in Krum's reflected glory! And all the embarrassing stuff, like being made to dance with Professor McGonagall, the dodgy dress robes his mother sends him, a brother showing him up getting a date for the Yule Ball like it was nothing. Bad enough he's the youngest son of the Weasley's 6 boys, all accomplished and competitive. It was a hard year for poor old Ron. Let me just say that Ron is low man on the totem pole and has yet to find his place amongst his family and friends. He lives in a tiny crowded house. He spends most of his family life fighting to get space enough to think his own thoughts and his academic life in crowded classrooms and dorm living; he's never had enough room to be self-reflective. He hasn't even become aware of his attraction to Hermione, of which she is aware and frustrated by. Let's just say poor movie-Ron is having an off year and cut him a little slack.
Ron is a seriously misunderstood character. The reason for what he saw in the mirror in the first film was not because he wants all of the glory for himself, but because his parents only had so many children because Mrs Weasley wanted a daughter. Also all of his older brothers were either Head Boy, Quidditch Captain, or extremely popular among their peers - Ron only wanted to not disappoint his parents. And yes he can be a bit of a tool at times, but he always comes through for Harry. Justice for Ron!
Also the movies just add things that aren’t true in the books, one of the worst things to me was making Hermione stand in front of Harry to protect him instead of Ron and Ron agreeing with Snape about her being a know-it-all. In this one, Ron never knew about the dragons, and he never stood around using Hermione to pass messages to Harry. Harry outright refused to speak to Ron also, it wasn’t really one-sided Ron came to check on Harry when he noticed he was gone. When he overheard Harry talking, Harry got really upset and threw a Potter Stinks badge at Ron’s head and made a remark like “hopefully you get a scar since that’s what you want!”
Every time I watch that scene with Cedric’s dad after Cedric’s death I can’t help but just burst into tears. The raw emotion… He’s such a good actor because every single time I FEEL that pain that he feels for losing his son.
@@its-aydonus6842 I know nothing about the cursed child so this comment came way out of left field for me… (no spoilers though please I’ll just assume you have a good reason)
@@emmaearthling444 Oh I definitely do, it's a reason I'm glad Cedric is gone as well. You should definitely read through the book when you have the time, even with it's script form. I stopped reading for a long time but when Cursed Child came out I read cover to cover, the story is such a good one even though it comes from a really stupid place.
I remember Cedric's death being so scary reading the book. It was so sudden, no fight or big moment. Just a simple flick of the wand and he's gone. In the books you spend a little more time with him and he truly was a good guy and a way stronger wizard than Harry (who at this point had way less experience with magic and spells than the other champions being much older). Yet despite Cedric being so strong, there was nothing he could do to defend himself against Voldemort. This situation was so traumatic for Harry too, watching your friend die, feeling trapped and helpless when a bunch of hooded figures toy with you. This book just got way way darker than I was expecting after Prisoner of Azkaban. Anyway, loved your reaction! Love your excitement and you pick up on a lot of details other commenters are missing. Looking forward to the next one!
Realistic in other words Yeah I mean it was an Eternity since I went through this book but I do remember you could really *feel* that Cedric was Years above Harry, on a level Harry couldn't even hope to grasp really. In the movie if attention hadn't been brought to that Harry was underage you'd easily believe them to be in the same year. I understand the time constraint bcs this book was FAT, I only wish they'd made it a Little bit clearer that Cedric really didn't encourage those badges, a small thing that could have established harder that Cedric was a nice guy
That’s the thing that gets me so fucking much. Every main important character that dies in this movie besides, Cedric died fighting for the greater good and it wasn’t in vain, but Cedric just got blasted away for no reason edit crushes my soul every fucking time I read the books or just watch the movies
When Amos reacted to Cedric’s death, it hit me in the feels on a deeper level. My mom lost her sister from a car accident the night before thanksgiving. Fleur’s scream of horror and Amos’s cries of despair takes me back to that night. 😢😢
"Do the kids at Hogwarts get to do something cool?" In a deleted scene, they sang an INCREDIBLY cheesy Hogwarts "anthem" of sorts, with an amusing degree of enthusiasm.
that's still in the movie. i recently watched it and it was definitely in there. people were waving their hands and stuff and the other schools looked mortified
The Trio and Hagrid sang this song when walking in the forest - moments before Harry found Barty Crouch Snr's body. "Hog-warts, Hog-warths, Our Belowed Hog-warts" or something like that
lol, I actually forgot how little they explain about what happened at the end :D Ok so remember back to the first film, the wandmaker guy Ollivander told Harry that both Harry's new wand & Voldemort's wand had "twin cores" that is to say, they both have phoenix feathers from the same phoenix as their magical core. Turns out that if you force wands with twin cores to fight each other they don't work properly & you can get some pretty funky effects. That's what you saw in the graveyard. "Priori incantatum" is what Dumbledore says at the end, it's more commonly known as the "reverse spell effect". It causes a wand (normally) to show the last spell it cast but in the case of Harry & Voldemort, the effect was supercharged & it caused apparitions of the people Voldemort had killed with the wand to appear in the reverse order they died. That wasn't really Harry's parents, just a magical echo of them imprinted on the wand.
In the movies Im glad they never tried to overuse it. Only Harry's wand being Voldemort's wands brother and Dumbledore's being the elder wand, which can never lose in a duel when in it's owners hands (essentially, Id assume that reverse spell effect is kind of essential to counter more powerful wizards), were able to connect with Priori Incantatum.
@@its-aydonus6842 this effect occurs once, in the graveyard & it only occurs because the wands have twin cores. That's stated directly by Dumbledore. Priori incantatum is a relatively mundane spell, Mr Diggory uses it on Harry's wand at the start of the book, when it's found next to an unconscious Winky, and all it shows is the last spell the wand cast by creating a small version of the dark mark. The effect created by Harry & Voldemort is such rare magic that Dumbledore even has to explained what happened to Sirius.
@@poogie_ Her accent isn't really Glaswegian. She grew up all over Scotland and it sounds like a bit of a mix. Also, as a Scottish person I find her way of speaking very annoying. She ends every sentence with an upwards inflection, like every sentence is a question?
@@anamewillcomelater - Well, dangit! 😁 I thought she sounded Glaswegian but I obviously messed up. I still love her voice. I guess I don’t notice any upward inflection since she’s not Kardashian level.
36:30 exact speech so good to read here it is ‘You stand, Harry Potter, upon the remains of my late father,’ he hissed softly. ‘A Muggle and a fool … very like your dear mother. But they both had their uses, did they not? Your mother died to defend you as a child … and I killed my father, and see how useful he has proved himself, in death …' ‘You see that house upon the hillside, Potter? My father lived there. My mother, a witch who lived here in this village, fell in love with him. But he abandoned her when she told him what she was … he didn’t like magic, my father … ‘He left her and returned to his Muggle parents before I was even born, Potter, and she died giving birth to me, leaving me to be raised in a Muggle orphanage … but I vowed to find him … I revenged myself upon him, that fool who gave me his name … Tom Riddle …’
It continues after death eater comes ‘Welcome, Death Eaters,’ said Voldemort quietly. ‘Thirteen years … thirteen years since last we met. Yet you answer my call as though it was yesterday … we are still united under the Dark Mark, then! Or are we?’ ‘I see you all, whole and healthy, with your powers intact - such prompt appearances! - and I ask myself … why did this band of wizards never come to the aid of their master, to whom they swore eternal loyalty?’ ‘And I answer myself,’ whispered Voldemort, ‘they must have believed me broken, they thought I was gone. They slipped back among my enemies, and they pleaded innocence, and ignorance, and bewitchment …' ‘And then I ask myself, but how could they have believed I would not rise again? They, who knew the steps I took, long ago, to guard myself against mortal death? They, who had seen proofs of the immensity of my power, in the times when I was mightier than any wizard living? ‘And I answer myself, perhaps they believed a still-greater power could exist, one that could vanquish even Lord Voldemort … perhaps they now pay allegiance to another … perhaps that champion of commoners, of Mudbloods and Muggles, Albus Dumbledore?’
Parents dealing with their child's death always gets me. I don't see LOTR in your movie library, and this isn't really a spoiler as it's basically how you're first introduced to a character. But a King wakes up from a spell to find his son dead and has a funeral. He utters a line before breaking down into tears, "No parent should have to bury their child." That breaks me. But this... Mr. Diggory was there in the moment and he went right from celebrating to mourning. His clutching at others just for balance and crying and writhing/twisting backwards breaks my soul every time I see it. It reminds me of seeing my grandmother when we found out my grandpa had died. She was a tiny woman and he was a large man who had been a butcher, and he'd had Parkinsons, and she could no longer care for him so he was put in a nursing home. I just remember the way she cried out and collapsed on top of his body as we walked into his room at the nursing home where he had died in his sleep. I've heard people say Mr. Diggory's acting was over the top and unrealistic, but as someone who has seen that pain come from someone else firsthand it rips at my soul because of how hauntingly accurate it is.
Moody used the Imperius Curse to control Krum in the maze, and make him attack both Fleur and Cedric (so Harry could win, touch the Cup, be taken to the graveyard). That's why Krum looks directly at Harry in the maze and doesn't hurt him.
I don't care how many times I see this movie. The ritual to restore Voldemort, and seeing him rise out of the cauldron will always simultaneously send shivers racing up AND down my spine and make me nauseous. Backstory: Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus curse's usage, because his parents were tortured into insanity with it. Also, I don't claim those two students that were with Cedric. They were NOT behaving like Hufflepuffs.
I think Ron’s true issue with Harry was that he was insulted that he didn’t confide in him that he put his name being put in the goblet since they’re besties.
The maze affects your mind, so that becomes really evident when Harry almost considers running to the Cup and leaving Cedric to the plants (not 100% sure if the maze was meant to attack the contestants this way, or if it was Moody's doing). Harry doesn't truly want glory and fame, so to see him stare at the Cup that way is really indicative of the maze's impact.
Yes, the maze, spells, and all sorts of creatures attacked the contestants in the book. Most of them that would’ve come for Harry were taken care of by Moody, who did not place the cup but was patrolling the borders like the other teachers. Harry still had a sphinx, a creature of Hagrid’s the movie cut out called a blast-ended skrewt, and a spider that caused him to break his leg.
Just want to tell you how Crouch Junior escaped from Askaban:Crouch Senior was the boss of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement...But he did change his wife (who was about to die) with his son sitting in Askaban (it was her last wich) they changed with ployjuice potion (the dementors can only feel there is a person ,but not who).So nobody noticed. So she died as him in Akaban (Chrouch Senior always prepared the polyjiuce potion for her to drink in Askaban) He controlled his son with the Imperius curse at home . (Chrouch Senior told the puplic his wife died right after his son died in Askaban of a broken heart.) But one day his son could free himself from the Imperius curse and put his father on the Imperius curse.
I believe Winky was involved with Crouch Jr's escape, but it wasn't intentional. As a House elf, she was bound to do as he asked. Poor Winky was unceremoniously fired/freed and provided a good contrast to Dobby's situation.
Thank you, I was wondering about that since Sirius was the first to escape Azkaban in their last year. It’s been many years since I read the books. Kinda glad we skipped the Winky part in the movies, but I would’ve loved to see Dobby.
I've read the books but don't recall all this, my only question is; why did Senior do all this? Was it a case of wanting his family with him but keeping Junior under house arrest using the Imperius curse and unfortunately Junior broke free of it?
I find it absurd that Harry needed a permission slip to go to Hogsmade a relatively safe village and was forced to stay behind but here he's being forced to do this bull that could very likely kill him.
Both can be sumed up with people not being flexibles with the rules, so it does make sense. Also, there a big contextual difference between adults not letting you go to a village while an alleged serial killer is after you, and trying to not comply with a magical contract.
There was a serial killer running around and all the reasonable adults figured Harry would actually try to fight him. It's not explained super-well, but the Goblet's magical contract was absolute. Harry was forced to compete. I don't know if Harry could simply forfeit on each task or not, but they didn't even try so I assume forfeit wasn't possible, either.
My niece started reading the books and took the Pottermore quiz, so I took it too. I got Slytherin, so I was immediately all, "Nooooooooo!" But my niece kindly pointed out just what they say in the movies, "Not all Slytherins are bad." She was like, "You can be a good Slytherin." 😄 How cute is that?
Slytherin is not about evil it's about making your own decisions about what you consider important and what you are willing to give to achieve your goals. It's a sentiment that enables some people to go off the deep end, but it's far from certain.
Aw. See how kids actually understood literature the way it’s meant to be! Tbf I think JKR was too biased against Slytherin too but she did try to make the houses neutral later on.
The upload rate is insane with this one! Usually I’d have to wait two weeks to a month for the next installment! I’ve been subscribed to you for while and have enjoyed all the reactions I’ve seen, but how you’re going about reacting to Harry Potter is phenomenal. You’re fighting for my number one reaction channel, let me tell you! 😂
@@thecocoacouch I can tell you love them and that makes me happy! And to be honest, I don’t necessarily have a favorite reactor, but just the way you connect with all of us and put your best foot forward when it comes to your videos is really special. In all honesty, you may well already be my favorite! Can’t wait to see your reactions to the rest of the series! I won’t spoil anything, but just be sure to have a box of tissues on hand, especially for the rest of the movies.
Would you ever collaborate with her or WhiteNoise Reacts? Just thought it’d end up being really fun for everyone including you and the other channels involved. You don’t have to. Just an idea I’m putting out there haha 😂❤
These are getting more fun to watch every reaction! I gotta say, Cedric’s dad responding to his death is gut wrenching every time. And yeah, Ron was NOT it in this movie…but Neville sure was 👌
The reason why Neville is so affected when Moody was using the Cruciatus curse on the spider is because he, Barty Crouch Junior, actually used it on Neville’s parents to torture them. They are in the hospital for the rest of their lives because they lost their minds from the torture. Neville didn’t know that Moody was Barty Crouch Junior at the time but he knew that what that spider was going through was the same pain that his parents had to go through 😢 I love when he says “I’m quite proud to be their son”, Neville’s so sweet and his story’s so sad. Him and Harry are so much alike, even down to both being contenders for the Chosen One prophecy, both born as the seventh month dies to parents who have thrice defied Voldemort
As the movies go on, Harry isn't short of parental figures. She's the strict mom, Mrs. Weasley is the doting, overprotective mom; Sirius is the cool uncle, Remus is like an older, wiser until (save for one scene in the books), Dumbledore is the wise, somewhat distant, grandfather, and everyone else in the order is a protector. Love the developments of those relationships, and unlike the romances, feel completely natural.
Oh, and in case you wonder how did Dumbledore know that this is not the real Moody, let me quote him: "the real Moody would have never taken you out of my sight. The moment he did, I knew and I followed."
One of the overall themes in this film is how loss of a child impacts parents. -Mr Weasley rushes his children out of the attack at the World Quidditch Cup encampment, in terror of losing them. -Cedric's father is so proud of his son, only for the boy to die in the Tournament; he is broken by the loss. -Barty Crouch's son goes terribly bad, so he disowns the boy and sends him to Azkaban; Crouch is broken by the loss ("we are never whole again"). -The intercession of what is only the SHADOW of Harry's parents saves him from destruction by Voldemort (not the ghosts, just the echo of them). Every time I watch this scene I am destroyed; I end up in tears. Back in the late 1970s I left my son with a babysitter while I attended a company party in hopes of being able to rise in the company. Police came to the party to find me; my son was in the hospital, fighting for his life. The babysitter had gotten mad at him and held him down in a bathtub of scalding water. Most of his skin below the waist fell off. I was taken to the hospital and left in a room, not taken to my boy. I could hear his screams from somewhere. I had to go out in the hall and BEG to be taken to him. Then I had to hold it together to be a support for him while we were transferred by ambulance to a different hospital with a proper burn unit. He was only 21 months old. After many months and skin grafts, he survived. I am still processing this event to this day. And when I hear the character of Mr Diggery shrieking, I am back in that event. Loss or threat of loss leaves a scar that bleeds the rest of your life.
Professor Moody had the students launch the killing curse at him and explained you had to have cold malicious malignant intent to kill another being for it to work. All it did was tickle and sting at best as he said himself.
20:43 When Snape pulls is sleeves back oh so slightly just to put their heads down cause his had enough will always be my favourite part of his character, his touch of dramatic flair
Wizards living amongst muggles (they’re in the middle of London!) but also knowing very little about them and staying hidden has never made sense to me…
The Goblet of Fire is my absolute favorite Harry Potter movie, the challenges are super fun, I love the Dragon scenes and the mystery of why Harry ended up in the TriWizard Cup. The last 20 minutes are very dark but the other schools arriving, the Yule Ball and the fun challenges are the highlight for me.
Harry's wand and Voldy's wand share the same core. A feather each from Fawkes, Dumbledore's pet phoenix. That's why their wands behaved so peculiar when aimed at each other. They (the wands) are kin. We'll return to this subject later, as you probably have figured out already. 🪄 ✨
@@pottop880 They did say that Harry's and Tom's wand cores came from the same phoenix, but it doesn't come up again until the 4th book's "weighing of the wands." Harry doesn't say anything out loud, but he hopes that Ollivander doesn't mention anything about the shared core with Voldemort or else Rita's quill might explode with excitement. "The media is the enemy" is a nice side plot that I wish had been on screen.
You are the first reactor I've seen that rightfully called out Hermione for screaming at Harry that she's not an owl, but didn't do the same to Ron. I love it.
It's funny how we think of actors as the first role we saw them in. I saw Doctor Who after the Harry Potter movies, so I think of Tennant as Barty Crouch, Jr.
28:23 If you watch closely, you can see Moody flick his tongue. Crouch recognized this as a habit his son always had. And began to suspect Moody might actually be his son, using poly juice. So of course, it was necessary to kill Crouch.
I agree that it ruins the plot twist but it's a cool detail if you already know the plot twist. I can see where you'd make that creative decision when making the movies as you would be aware that your primary target audience already knows all the twists. Sure there were people who watched the movies without reading the books but the primary target audience was the fans of the books.
Well they complain cuz in the books he says it calmly not aggressive like in the movies lol but even though I read the books I didn’t mind it all cuz again I thought the same thing when watching it.
@@heathergeer it’s just the most well known and all the boyfriends and dads who were dragged along with their girlfriends/kids like it because of the competition aspect of the film so Goblet has become basically the standard “let’s watch Harry Potter!” Movie among families if they’re not huge into the fandom lol. I’d say it’s the most popular when it comes to the series as a whole. Very passively watchable
Haha that’s a totally fair take! I didn’t even think of that 😂 I also think it does a good job of allowing you to feel the heaviness of how high the stakes are becoming.
I was just suggested your channel from Prisoner of Azkaban and now I see this one just posted! I'm so excited to watch. I'll be back, starting from the beginning!
Turning point!! Cedric's death really sets the tone for whats to come. Its funny because you notice some silly things like the clothes of the little ones during the ball, which I never paid attention to in my entire life and many many rewatches lol
I'm by no means a Ron apologist but i do understand why he acts like such a tool in this one. Of his 6 siblings, Bill and Percy were Prefects and Head Boy, Charlie, Fred and George are all great at Quidditch and just popular in general, and Ginny is the only daughter on top of being popular and (eventually) good at Quidditch. So even in his immediate family, Ron has this massive fear of being a disappointment and being overshadowed - and then his two best friends are the most famous wizard of his generation and the smartest girl in the school. I can totally see and understand how the Goblet of Fire thing might have just finally caused Ron's own insecurities to snap - he's not even necessarily actually jealous of Harry, he's just tired of constantly being in other people's shadows. It also doesn't help that his role in the book - to be the one in the trio who grew up with magic and could explain it - was inexplicably given to Hermione and he was basically reduced to comic relief.
The wands connected because they each have a Phoenix feather from the same bird, a detail mentioned in the first movie. The book points out that those 2 feathers were actually from Fawkes. Enjoying your reactions so far, and also appreciate the quickness like everyone else!
idk if anyone explained this yet, but the reason why ron is so angry at harry is not explained well in the movie! in the book, we hear fred and george planning how to trick the goblet, and ron and harry kinda plan on doing whatever F&G come up with if it works so they can try to be champions too. then when the cup chooses harry, ron assumes he figured out a way to put his name into the goblet and didnt tell ron he was doing it. so he felt REALLY betrayed, he thought they were ”partners in crime” and that they were gonna do it together.
The more i watch this movie the more i want to read the book again. The book is so so much better and explains the backstory of Crouch Jr. expands on many of the characters like Dobby, Sirius, some of the other students etc. It also adds many new characters that aren't even mentioned in the movie as well as small plot-lines that were completely cut from the movie like the one involving Percy, Rita Skeeter, Dobby, Hagrid's classes, the Dursleys, the twins etc. God, i think i might start reading them all again, it's been years since i last read them all.
I love how they varied Hedwig's Theme at the beginning of the movie to fit the darkened mood. The music is what actually first drew me to the Harry Potter films, but then I got hooked on the story. I never thought about it, but loved your comment that the Gryffindors weren't very brave when it came to romance. Really clever comment.
"Everything is part of a plan that Dumbledore has." Yup. The Super Carlin Brothers (enormous harry potter youtube channel) has a nearly two hour video on it called Dumbledore's Big Plan.
37:46 yes Dumbledore explains Priori Incantatem, The reverse spell effect?’ Exactly,’ said Dumbledore. ‘Harry’s wand and Voldemort’s wand share cores. Each of them contains a feather from the tail of the same phoenix. This phoenix, in fact,’ he added, and he pointed at the scarlet and gold bird, perching peacefully on Harry’s knee. ‘My wand’s feather came from Fawkes?’ Harry said, amazed. ‘Yes,’ said Dumbledore. ‘Mr Ollivander wrote to tell me you had bought the second wand, the moment you left his shop four years ago.’ ‘So what happens when a wand meets its brother?’ said Sirius. ‘They will not work properly against each other,’ said Dumbledore. ‘If, however, the owners of the wands force the wands to do battle … a very rare effect will take place. ‘One of the wands will force the other to regurgitate spells it has performed - in reverse. The most recent first … and then those which preceded it …’ Which means,’ said Dumbledore slowly, his eyes upon Harry’s face, ‘that some form of Cedric must have reappeared.’ The last murders the wand performed,’ said Dumbledore, nodding. ‘In reverse order. More would have appeared, of course, had you maintained the connection. Very well, Harry, these echoes, these shadows … what did they do?'
removals from the movie: Cedric used a Transfiguration spell to change a rock into a dog to distract the dragon. He was partially successful; the dragon took the bait, and Cedric went for the Golden egg. Halfway through, the dragon turned its attention back to Cedric, and burned his face. Cedric retrieved the egg, however, and passed the task. Second was Fleur Delacour, who faced a Common Welsh Green. She enchanted the dragon to sleep, but while retrieving the golden egg, the dragon snored and let out a jet of flame that set her skirt alight. She extinguished the flames, and retrieved her egg. Viktor Krum was third, facing a Chinese Fireball. He used the Conjunctivitis Curse to blind the dragon and retrieve his egg. However, he was docked points when the dragon stumbled around and smashed half of the real eggs. Harry Potter drew the fiercest of them all, the Hungarian Horntail. On the advice of Crouch Jr. (disguised as Professor Moody), he used a Summoning Charm to bring his Firebolt broomstick to him, and manoeuvred past the dragon to retrieve his egg. After the First Task, Harry and Viktor were tied for first place, with Cedric in second, and Fleur in third. The champions were told that, the Golden egg they retrieved contained a clue on how to pass the Second Task. Without it, they had little chance of succeeding. I hope you watch the extended edition for the final films ahead. (Especially the last one part one and two which has some stuff that puts some things into full circle.)
wasn't Fleur the one who's dragon broke the egg? She had been doing well but the canon randomly went off and the dragon woke up and smashed the eggs, costing her points. Been a while since I read the book though
Answers to some of your questions... Ralph Fiennes (pronounced Rafe) plays Voldemort. His nose is flat with slits because of his deep connection with snakes. The crutiatus curse (crutio) is a torturing curse. Neville's parents were tortured into madness by Voldemort's followers in his first quest for power. That's why Neville was so bothered by the spider being tortured. Priori Incantatum forces the wand to reveal it's previous spells in reverse order, so when Harry managed to prevail against Voldemort, Voldy's wand revealed Cedric, then the Caretaker, then Harry's mom, and then his dad.
I think Ron's coming into his Teen years and his emotions are all over the place. But I think considering Harry is already so famous, and now this is just one more thing that he'd be remembered for, and I think that is why Ron took it so personally for a moment. he wanted to be entered but he couldn't, but Harry got too. Plus, his emotions are all over the place.
Neither of them wanted to enter the tournament. They joked about how dangerous it probably was. That actually fed into Ron's anger, he thought Harry had been lying to him.
The people who were taken and floating in the lake for the Triwizard Tournament contestants to rescue were never in any harm or going to die 🤣 Magic! But even Harry didn't really think that through rationally and panicked about leaving them behind, which is good of him. The other older contestants understood the logic of the game and didn't have any concerns.
34:51 The grave in the cemetery is actually Tom's/Voldemort's father (as mentioned with his bone being used in the potion). The spell and potion made by Wormtail included Harry’s blood, which is why Voldemort can now touch Harry (as the old magick of Lily's love sacrifice in Harry’s blood now runs in Voldemort’s own veins).
Dumbledore confronting Harry about putting his name in the Goblet angers us to this day. The book indicates that Dumbledore clearly asked calmly, not violently
34:42 , I cried pretty hard when I read this book in the series. Cedric’s death was so sudden and executed with such disregard for human life on the part of Voldemort that it shocked me as a fourth grader. I cried so hard I had to put the book down and pick it back up later 😅
40:00 - Yeah, the memory specifically states that Snape used to be a death eater and then before Voldemort's 'death', to he turned spy for Dumbledore/the ministry. So he was essentially an undercover agent in Voldemort's circle, reporting back to the good guys on his next moves.
So, to explain Priori Incantatem, basically the wand with the most powerful will forces the other to reveal the last spells it performed. In Voldemorts case, the people he killed. Of course, it's only possible because Harry's and Voldemorts wands are twins.
36:55 One thing that others have pointed out is that these movies are really, really good at blending practical and CGI. Ralph Fiennes transformation into Voldemort looks incredible _to this day_ (almost two decades later), and it's largely due to this interplay. A lot of movies these days just do everything CGI and it doesn't look nearly as good.
I’ve seen this movie several times and I’ve seen reactions to it’s probably 2-3 dozen times. Sedrick’s dad’s reaction to seeing his son rips my heart out Every. Single. Time. 🥺💔❤️🩹
During the ball scene in behind the scenes, Tom rly wanted to dance with Emma. But she was learning how to waltz with another dance partner. Poor Tom was forced to watch. “Lucky, lucky guy!”
I'm really glad you're enjoying this story so much, Oscar. I'm not sure if you're a reader, but I would 100% recommend reading or listening to the books. J.K. Rowling's story telling is brilliant with many more subtle and profound payoffs than the movies were able to capture. Also, Ron and Ginny are much better characters in the books.
Not many people notice it but when they are mourning Cedric in the Great Hall, the ceiling isn't enchanted to look like the sky. It's just the sun shining in.
The best part about Harry Potter is that everything that seems to come out of left field was actually there all along if you go back and watch again. There are always signs beforehand. JK Rowling was brilliant at that.
I LOVE that you are putting these out so quickly. I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions to these videos. And you are quickly becoming my favorite reactor and reaction channel.
Wait a minute, was that old caretaker played by Eric Sykes?? Edit: I'll be damned, it was Eric Sykes. I've watched this film multiple times and never before made the connection. Legendary comedic actor, for anyone not familiar.
Ron is the youngest of 5 brothers, who are either smart, athletic or popular, and best friends with Harry Potter, the most famous wizard ever. His behavior is understandable by how much he endures being overshadowed by his friends and family. It’s hard not to compare yourself to others and have healthy self esteem in his situation I would think.
8:22 - What hurts me most about this scene is knowing that Barto Crouch Jr was one of the Death Eaters who used the Cruciatus Curse on Neville's parents. 14:48 - All the other students think that Harry wants to 'steal' Cedric's spotlight, plus many of the under-17s wanted to take part on the tournament (because of the $ prize) and failed to get their names on the goblet. 32:49 - Barto Crouch Jr put Krum under the Impirius curse so that he would get everyone out of the way for Harry. 37:47 - This 'link' between the wands only happens when they are siblings, because they share the same core. The core of Harry's and Voldemort's wands are the tail feathers of the same Phoenix (Fawkes), which is why one wand resists 'hitting' the other, forming this link between them. 49:00 - The movies make it seem like there are only dark wizards in 'Slytherin', but that's not true. Many of them are, yes, but most are not. The 'Slytherin' house includes creative, cunning, ambitious wizards who take care of their own and form loyal and eternal friendships (even if it is with the cruelest wizard of all time 🤷♀).
Believe it or not, you've not yet been introduced to the worst villain in the series.
😳
Bruh 😂😂😂
What a la strange thing to say… 😂
You're not wrong 😂 Soon enough
Yup the next movie we meet pure evil. Also it’s my favorite book.
"Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?" Dumbledore asked CALMLY 😅😅
i like dumbledore getting mad lol it gives more character imo
Yeah reading the books after the movies and it seemed much better that he was not calm at all. Thats something that would raise anyones fears and worry for a child @zoew_
@@zoew_
Considering that Dumbledore knows about Harry`s importance and destiny, he, of course, would be concerned.
Sorry but if you know the character, there is no comparison between movie and books.
lol, the book verses the movie is so different 😂
@@thecocoacouch will you watch Inside out 2, Alice through the looking glass, The ring, Shrek the third?.
We don't know for sure that's the reason they have so many kids, only that Ron fears that it's the case. Its clear Molly loves all her kids.
@@DaDunge That's true, my bad
Also the movies just add things that aren’t true in the books, one of the worst things to me was making Hermione stand in front of Harry to protect him instead of Ron and Ron agreeing with Snape about her being a know-it-all.
In this one, Ron never knew about the dragons, and he never stood around using Hermione to pass messages to Harry.
Harry outright refused to speak to Ron also, it wasn’t really one-sided
Ron came to check on Harry when he noticed he was gone. When he overheard Harry talking, Harry got really upset and threw a Potter Stinks badge at Ron’s head and made a remark like “hopefully you get a scar since that’s what you want!”
@@RiseeRee yeah in the books it was very much teenagers being teenagers, and wasn't as one-sided as the movies

Every time I watch that scene with Cedric’s dad after Cedric’s death I can’t help but just burst into tears. The raw emotion… He’s such a good actor because every single time I FEEL that pain that he feels for losing his son.
He was so proud of his good boy Cedric. He was utterly devastated and you feel that fully.
The pain is great, but I have no sympathy for Amos Diggory after The Cursed Child.
I can't help bawling every time. Cedric's death is not as devastating to me as his father's sudden strike of grief in the crowd of confused people.
As you have realised, playtime is now over. From here on in, things become increasingly darker.
Realistic in other words
Yeah I mean it was an Eternity since I went through this book but I do remember you could really *feel* that Cedric was Years above Harry, on a level Harry couldn't even hope to grasp really.
I kinda wish they flushed him earlier in the series. Or maybe i just havent paid attention
When Amos reacted to Cedric’s death, it hit me in the feels on a deeper level. My mom lost her sister from a car accident the night before thanksgiving. Fleur’s scream of horror and Amos’s cries of despair takes me back to that night. 😢😢
@julieornelas3787 I'm so sorry for your loss! That scene always makes me tear up too. I hope I'll never have to experience anything like it

"Do the kids at Hogwarts get to do something cool?"
In a deleted scene, they sang an INCREDIBLY cheesy Hogwarts "anthem" of sorts, with an amusing degree of enthusiasm.
Wait I thought that was actually in the movie
that's still in the movie. i recently watched it and it was definitely in there. people were waving their hands and stuff and the other schools looked mortified
@@cacky_moonI’ve no clue what you’re referring to
The Trio and Hagrid sang this song when walking in the forest - moments before Harry found Barty Crouch Snr's body.
"Hog-warts, Hog-warths, Our Belowed Hog-warts" or something like that
Wait, the school anthem was actually in the movies? I thought it was books only!
32:37 krum is under imperius curse by imposter moody
Harry while holding onto Cedrics body: "No, don't go into the twilight!"
lol, I actually forgot how little they explain about what happened at the end :D Ok so remember back to the first film, the wandmaker guy Ollivander told Harry that both Harry's new wand & Voldemort's wand had "twin cores" that is to say, they both have phoenix feathers from the same phoenix as their magical core.
Read books,too!!!😶🙄
In the movies Im glad they never tried to overuse it.

36:30 exact speech so good to read here it is
‘You stand, Harry Potter, upon the remains of my late father,’ he hissed softly. ‘A Muggle and a fool … very like your dear mother. But they both had their uses, did they not? Your mother died to defend you as a child … and I killed my father, and see how useful he has proved himself, in death …'
‘You see that house upon the hillside, Potter? My father lived there. My mother, a witch who lived here in this village, fell in love with him. But he abandoned her when she told him what she was … he didn’t like magic, my father …
‘He left her and returned to his Muggle parents before I was even born, Potter, and she died giving birth to me, leaving me to be raised in a Muggle orphanage … but I vowed to find him … I revenged myself upon him, that fool who gave me his name … Tom Riddle …’
It continues after death eater comes
‘Welcome, Death Eaters,’ said Voldemort quietly. ‘Thirteen years … thirteen years since last we met. Yet you answer my call as though it was yesterday … we are still united under the Dark Mark, then! Or are we?’
‘I see you all, whole and healthy, with your powers intact - such prompt appearances! - and I ask myself … why did this band of wizards never come to the aid of their master, to whom they swore eternal loyalty?’
‘And I answer myself,’ whispered Voldemort, ‘they must have believed me broken, they thought I was gone. They slipped back among my enemies, and they pleaded innocence, and ignorance, and bewitchment …'
‘And then I ask myself, but how could they have believed I would not rise again?
Great reaction. Amos Diggorys wails of pain and anguish will never not make me tear up. So heartbreaking. I could see that you felt it too.
I don't care how many times I see this movie. The ritual to restore Voldemort, and seeing him rise out of the cauldron will always simultaneously send shivers racing up AND down my spine and make me nauseous.

Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus curse's usage, because his parents were tortured into insanity with it.
Also, I don't claim those two students that were with Cedric. They were NOT behaving like Hufflepuffs.
Oh that’s horrible for Neville!! And yeah that scene with his return got me scared so bad.

Lol, "That is NOT good soup"! Your reactions are just too great! So glad you're enjoying these movies!
that phrase just took me out of the moment with a bout of hysterics. Well done.
I think Ron’s true issue with Harry was that he was insulted that he didn’t confide in him that he put his name being put in the goblet since they’re besties.
And then, he just felt stupid for doing it and didn't know how to backtrack.
@@Lupirio23 I think it was for his late wife? She was heartbroken after Crouch Jr. went to prison.
The "that is not good soup" made me laugh out loud tho xd

Slytherin is not about evil it's about making your own decisions about what you consider important and what you are willing to give to achieve your goals. It's a sentiment that enables some people to go off the deep end, but it's far from certain.

34:48 "Eww, that is not good soup" I agree, mate
11:51 I love Mcgonagalls reaction in the background for me she is the parental figure harry should have had and Maggie Smith played her perfectly.
He didn’t actually have them cast it at him, he just said that they could all do that and he doubted he would get so much as a nosebleed.
20:43 When Snape pulls is sleeves back oh so slightly just to put their heads down cause his had enough will always be my favourite part of his character, his touch of dramatic flair
Wizards living amongst muggles (they’re in the middle of London!) but also knowing very little about them and staying hidden has never made sense to me…
These movies really are so good. I've never been able to get past the scene with Cedric's father without pausing. It's heart-wrenching.

Yeah, they do a shit job of explaining that one in the films.
@@jlerricksonyoure right, they explain all that stuff way better in the books. an unfortunate oversight from the filmmakers
@@jlerricksonDidn't they say that in the first movie. I guess it just got lost after a while
@@pottop880 They did say that Harry's and Tom's wand cores came from the same phoenix, but it doesn't come up again until the 4th book's "weighing of the wands." Harry doesn't say anything out loud, but he hopes that Ollivander doesn't mention anything about the shared core with Voldemort or else Rita's quill might explode with excitement. "The media is the enemy" is a nice side plot that I wish had been on screen.
You are the first reactor I've seen that rightfully called out Hermione for screaming at Harry that she's not an owl, but didn't do the same to Ron. I love it.
4:03
“Now Who is this guy?”
Yes! 😅
That is David Tennant. aka Doctor WHO!
It's funny how we think of actors as the first role we saw them in. I saw Doctor Who after the Harry Potter movies, so I think of Tennant as Barty Crouch, Jr.
When i saw this pop up u said ooh and stopped what i was doing and never clicked so much!!! And also love being called a marshmallow 😂❤
Haha! Glad you’re enjoying them.
29:00 "So everything is part of a plan that Dumbledore has" 🙃
28:23
If you watch closely, you can see Moody flick his tongue. Crouch recognized this as a habit his son always had. And began to suspect Moody might actually be his son, using poly juice.
So of course, it was necessary to kill Crouch.
Yea I hate how the movie put crotches tongue twitch. It ruined the plot twist.
"That's an interesting wand; the way it bends"... I erm... *blushes*...
5:50 Fun fact , there is deleted scene of Hogwarts School ,,introduction'' performance ... they sang their anthem .. it was awkward 🤣🤣
A lot of people complain that Dumbledore's reaction was aggressive but i loved it because it shows that he was just really worried about Harry
Well they complain cuz in the books he says it calmly not aggressive like in the movies lol but even though I read the books I didn’t mind it all cuz again I thought the same thing when watching it.
Ahhh Goblet of Fire, every person who never read the books favorite movie lol
As someone who only read 2 books this seems accurate 😂
Dumbledore said calmly
@@heathergeer it’s just the most well known and all the boyfriends and dads who were dragged along with their girlfriends/kids like it because of the competition aspect of the film so Goblet has become basically the standard “let’s watch Harry Potter!” Movie among families if they’re not huge into the fandom lol. I’d say it’s the most popular when it comes to the series as a whole. Very passively watchable
Haha that’s a totally fair take! I didn’t even think of that 😂
I also think it does a good job of allowing you to feel the heaviness of how high the stakes are becoming.
@@heathergeerdefinitely! If it’s the only one you’ve seen it would definitely convince you to watch the whole series!
I was just suggested your channel from Prisoner of Azkaban and now I see this one just posted! I'm so excited to watch. I'll be back, starting from the beginning!
I'm back and I've subscribed!!
I love your laugh❤😂 it makes me happy
Haha thanks ☺️
That's so true, and it's contagious like a happy virus 😂😂
I love how they varied Hedwig's Theme at the beginning of the movie to fit the darkened mood. The music is what actually first drew me to the Harry Potter films, but then I got hooked on the story. I never thought about it, but loved your comment that the Gryffindors weren't very brave when it came to romance. Really clever comment.
That first pained, "That's my boy!" from Cedric's dad after they get back to the front of the maze kills me absolutely every time. 😢💔😞
"Everything is part of a plan that Dumbledore has."
Yup. The Super Carlin Brothers (enormous harry potter youtube channel) has a nearly two hour video on it called Dumbledore's Big Plan.
37:46 yes Dumbledore explains
Priori Incantatem,
The reverse spell effect?’
Exactly,’ said Dumbledore.
‘Mr Ollivander wrote to tell me you had bought the second wand, the moment you left his shop four years ago.’
‘So what happens when a wand meets its brother?’ said Sirius.
‘They will not work properly against each other,’ said Dumbledore. ‘If, however, the owners of the wands force the wands to do battle … a very rare effect will take place.
‘One of the wands will force the other to regurgitate spells it has performed - in reverse. The most recent first … and then those which preceded it …’
Which means,’ said Dumbledore slowly, his eyes upon Harry’s face, ‘that some form of Cedric must have reappeared.’
The last murders the wand performed,’ said Dumbledore, nodding. ‘In reverse order. More would have appeared, of course, had you maintained the connection. Very well, Harry, these echoes, these shadows … what did they do?'
"OH, eewww...that is not good soup." 😆 🤣 😆 🤣 awesome.
removals from the movie: Cedric used a Transfiguration spell to change a rock into a dog to distract the dragon.
I adore your reactions xx you dont keep us waiting for weeks x thank you x
„SOMEONE JUST DIED, RON”, that got me, EXACTLY! XD
Thank you for reacting to this series. Cedric’s dads acting was so on point, gut wrenching
No matter how many times i watch this movie, the scene where harry brings back cedric's body, always gives me goosebumbs
“Everything is part of a plan that Dumbledore has” - ☕️👌🏽
"Holy Shiver-me-timbers!!" LOL
Single. Time. 🥺💔❤️🩹
11:17 perhaps I should've noticed before, or maybe it's just only on occasion, but you're an Aussie with boomerang-shaped eyebrows. So cool.
😆😆 haha wow. I knew I had quite expressive eyebrows but I never made the boomerang connection. Cheers! 🍺
10:59 Dumbledore asked "calmly"
"Off to bed both of you" and they both obeyed😂 cutiesss they can't add more fuel to the fire when she is upset
During the ball scene in behind the scenes, Tom rly wanted to dance with Emma. But she was learning how to waltz with another dance partner. Poor Tom was forced to watch. “Lucky, lucky guy!”
What Ron doesn’t understand is that Harry would trade in his fame and glory just too have his family back
This was the first thing I saw Robert Pattinson in, and I’ve referred to him as Dead Ced ever since.
I love you for being upset at Moody’s lesson on the three Unforgivable Curses. That shows real empathy.
11:09 ron would never say that to harry, he just kept quiet in the books
My body goes through a full trauma response hearing that band music outside the maze.
"Anvil-sized clues" was Rowling's phrase.
I LOVE that you are putting these out so quickly. I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions to these videos. And you are quickly becoming my favorite reactor and reaction channel.
11:16 I loved your Tigger's laugh!
It’s so heartwarming to see you enjoying and invested more and more each film ❤
Ur a great reactor, you seem so pure and have a great personality, keep the movie and the friends reactions coming my friend!
"I'm going to kill you, Harry Potter, while pointing my wand as hard as I can!!!"
-VOLDEMORT, Harry Potter HISHE-
Wait a minute, was that old caretaker played by Eric Sykes??
I must say the return of Lord Voldemort and Amos Diggory's cry are the most brilliant things in this movie.
