There's nothing like a Canadian Studmuffin video to make me feel better when I'm feeling down. You might not even realize it, but that's what you do for people, Larry. Thank you, friend :)
The second half of I Am the Walrus is in Duophonic stereo (the mix changes from true stereo to 'fake stereo'). This came about because the radio broadcast of king lear included as the song fades out had been added "live" into the mono mix-down and so was unavailable for inclusion in the stereo mix; hence, fake stereo from the mono mix was created for this portion of the song.
Attempt to do Revolution 9 but along with whatever spoken vocals are in that, you must ALSO hum the instrumental noise sections of the song...record instrumental vocal first then over that track, do the vocal parts over that.
I'd say it was the rhythm track which is often hard panned rather than the drums. The rhythm track often included the drums, guitars and other instruments. Due to the nature of the four track recording the stereo positioning choices were quite limited. Hard panning was often done for novelty value to give the minority stereo listeners value for money on their swanky stereograms. Incidentally, Giles Martin has remixed 'All You Need Is Love', it's on the 2015 '1' album.
I love this album. I really like the original stereo mixes on it. It's the Beatles, they sound great anyway! Anyway, here's a request, Larry. Why not do Revolution 9? At least you'll have no problem remembering the words!
Another good video Larry, the Beatles song I would love to hear you sing perhaps even with Phil and Gus McCracken is The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill or maybe for a softer more sensitive feel Yesterday,I'm sure all three of you would do a great job regardless of whatever Beatles song you guy's were to sing, thanks. Bob.
Ah... too bad in a way... (BTW thanks for the reply!) I've since learned you listen a lot through headphones and I'm not too familiar with that myself (that may sound strange). You probably know that the Beatles themselves thought of their recordings being played back, mainly in terms of mono, until 1968. That said... while I personally enjoy listening to the Beatles pre 1968 output in mono just fine, over my (how ironic) Stereo, interesting new stereo mixes are ofcourse welcome. Haven't listened to the new Sgt. Pepper yet but hey, it continues to be amazing that the Fab Four's latest releases are still eagerly awaited! On the other hand... what current new music can really compare.
You should listen to the songs of the Magical Mystery Tour film! Magical Mystery Tour, The Fool On The Hill, Flying, I Am The Walrus, Blue Jay Way and Your Mother Should Know. They rereleased the movie in high definition some years back and the songs were remixed to a fantastic sound. We also have new mixes of All You Need Is Love, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields Forever and Hello Goodbye. Almost the whole album!
GOOD VIDEO,GOOD REVIEW LARRY. EVENTHOUGH IT WAS A ALBUM MADE BY CAPITOL ,IT MAKE SENSE AFTER SGT.PEPPERS AND BEFORE THE WHITE ALBUM .BUT STILL VERY GOOD ALBUM.
Ringo has mentioned that he plays drums like a left hander, and I guess the drum kit would have been too heavy to carry to the right side hence his drumming coming from the left side......................only joking I have always enjoyed Blue Jay Way.........serious
You have to understand that the 2009 CD issue was a reMASTERING, not a reMIX. So the left-center-right placements are merely the same as they've always been -- although from your description it sounds like the left and right channels were swapped on "Fool on the Hill" and "Your Mother Should Know". As for "Sitting in an English garden..." onwards in "Walrus", yes, that is an awful "degradation" into FAKE stereo, also called "duophonic", where they take a mono recording and alter the "graphic equalization" to emphasize bass frequencies in the left channel, and treble in the right -- a "simulated stereo" which is merely distorted mono. Understandably the "Love" mix shines by comparison, because that's an all-true-stereo mix. However, it is also a pretty "doctored-up" version of the song, and thus really not a suitable replacement. For "faithful" all-true-stereo mixes, there was, first, the DVD release of the "Anthology" video, as well as the DVD release of the MMT FILM. It's HIGH time the CD mix of "Walrus" was likewise upgraded! Finally, with "Strawberry Fields Forever", remember that the song is in two sections. The second section, which starts on the second occurrence of "GOING TO...", has a brilliant cello-and-horn orchestration which suffers horribly from being all shoved into the far right channel. This was finally remedied in 2015 with the release of "1+", with a vastly improved mix for the SFF promo film, with that cello/horn section given proper, gorgeous stereo spread! This mix was released this year to CD on the Sgt. Pepper bonus disc. Yay!! Let us just hope that there'll be a 50th anniversary MMT CD with this mix of SFF, and an all-stereo IATW, and a general revamp/remix!!
Blue Jay Way is one of my favorite songs but ever since the 1 remix and eventually sgt pepper 50th I always couldn't stand the mix. Its a mess and sad. I really hope Magical Mystery Tour will be remixed.
in my opinion this cover is really bad, and the album was the end of the great saga of Sgt, actually the album was saved with 2 songs made in and for Sgt. Peppers Peny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever, but still a good album with good songs like Fool on the Hill and all you need is love. 5/10 (Btw i love how you get every detail of drums vocals of each song amazing) Happy Day of Canada.
I love MMT a lot more than I do MTM. Yeah I know you can't f*@# MMT. But then you can't f*@# MTM anymore either. :( (Excuse my Canadian French and abbreviations.) :)

Just noticed yesterday that the label on my MMT CD has a misprint. The mini-documentary is listed as being Let It Be.

Great review Larry! Blue Jay Way is probably my favourite song on the album.
Love this album! Happy Dominion Day and be safe!
I have the 2009 mono box, and I listen mostly to that. White Album & Abbey Road in stereo.
I love this album. I really like the original stereo mixes on it. It's the Beatles, they sound great anyway! Anyway, here's a request, Larry. Why not do Revolution 9? At least you'll have no problem remembering the words!
Thanks for the review. I really like your take on the Beatles catalogue!
My two favorite songs from Magical are Blue Jay Way and Baby Your A Rich Man

Ehm... generally speaking, you prefer the MONO remasters? Haven't really had time to check out all your opinions on the STEREO's.
OperationPhantom Nope...not a fan of mono.

Good analyse don't think I could have made it better but who was responsible for the mixes at first George Martin or Geoff Emerick ?
Flying is an amazing instrumental! I love all the songs on the album! 10/10 personally.
Happy 150 Canada Day Larry :-)

You could sing I am The Walrus, since we're not getting a Remixed Magical Mystery Tour.. ._.
I really like this album. It has been a favorite of mine at one time, but it is not right now.
Yes!
No, not Yes... The Beatles. :D
Canadian Studmuffin Hahahaha

You should sing "Revolution 9"!!! Haha, how about "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away". :)
good Video :D
Maybe try to sing revolution 9
Please sing The Ballad Of John and Yoko. Lyrics are super easy 😏.

Ask Gus to sing Day in the life Larry :)🇨🇦Happy Canada day 🇨🇦 Mr studmuffin sir🍺
PLEASEEEEE sing A day in the life
my top 2 lps by anyone are mmt and splhcb....(out of a collection of a few thousand)
Mono works best for me since I'm deaf in one ear
Very nice video
Larry I dare you to sing only a northern song because it would be so funny if you would sing those goofy lyrics
old brown shoe and hey bulldog were the only 2 songs I found sounded bad on the 2009 remasters the vocals are hard to hear and not very clear.
Blue Jay Way > All The Way
