  • Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed has long been seen as a master of Malaysian politics.
His shock resignation on Monday has triggered speculation over what he may be planning.
He's been resisting pressure to set a deadline to hand over power to his named successor, Anwar Ibrahim.
They put aside their decades-long rivalry in 2018, and that partnership brought Mahathir back into power.
Under the deal, Mahathir promised to hand over the top job to Ibrahim.
Now the ruling government has collapsed and political parties are rushing to forge alliances to form a new one.
So, will Mahathir come back to power through a different political partnership?
And what's motivated this, just two years after a surprise comeback?

Strange . The wiki write up on both Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim show that as DPM, Anwar Ibrahim fought against cronysim and corruption in Malaysian politics which irritated Mahathir who was PM at the time. So Mahathir seems to play a double game to stay in power.

There are a few observations that must be made here. Bridgette Welsh is a creature of civil societies or open societies funded by Soros and the NED. She was instrumental in feeding the so called NGO's with a road map to destabilizing the former government of the Barisan.
Mr.Suffian is a by product of the same animal . The Merdeka Centre is a soros funded ned funded organization which is hardly independent.
Dr. Mahathir was in the first place not the choice of the people. He won by default because the narcissistic unstable Anwar who had been supported by Bridgette and her handlers had been marginalized by even his own coalition partners. Anwar on the other hand was getting restless as the rumours about his own political demise was not been quashed by Mahathir.
Mahathir does not believe in consensus. He could not handle the slim majority of pretenders within his coalition. Many of them are very green and self interested. So he resigned as prime minister but did not his seat nor resign from parliament.
Like nature Politics abhors a vacuum. So the King had to appoint him interim prime minister because the other 3 Anwar being one of them are tainted by either criminal records (Anwar). What happens now is that he is able to run the country for the next 6 months without a cabinet or coalition partners to stand in his way. He loves a space where he and he alone is held accountable to himself for his acts and omissions. No one can intervene. If the king does (which he won't) Mahathir has a plan up his sleeve for such an eventually.
Civil Societies has no place but in death row. A day is a lifetime in politics. Mahathir has 6 months. Most parliamentarians are first timers who are desperately engaged in introspection now. There won't be a dissolution thats a pipe dream. There will of course be an emergency declared if the king is forced to disolve government.

What have you got against open societies? How do you define Democracy then? If one party ruled a nation, it would be akin to George Orwell's "Animal Farm" where the ones in power could stipulate that all animals were equal but the ruling class was more equal than the othes.

By the same token, the PH helped Mahathir win the election on the understanding that he pass on the power to Anwar Ibrahim during the governement mandat. It is normal that he should have set a date to show his interity but he did not which gave the political manipulators in the coalition the chance to drum up divisions and put their plot to work. Mahathir realized that the agreement would be nullified by resigning so he chose to throw the country into political turmoil to form a new government and stay in power. But he never thought that the King would act so quickly to restore stability to the nation even if it meant bringing the UMNO back . He wanted to pick and choose and made a mess of the situation. His ego is hurt and he is using the parliament to get back what he threw away by trying to discredit the new PM. Notice how he is blaming everybody but himself?

This is where we disagree, some pple kept telling Mahathir owes PH , but to me its the other way around. We can debate it for hours 🤭. my view is Pakatan, hd its chance.. was not goin to beat BN .
      2) To Mahathir if you recall his campaign is to make things right again. If that so, he would need free reign to implement his plan . (btw im a proponent of a strong leadership/autocratic ) as Malaysia is unique in its social fabric, needs a strong leader.
Either PKR, DAP, Amanah took what Mahathir said as lipservice or they are too preoccupied with other things ..
Why, why .. do need to put a date line?. Mid term. You think someone as proud as Mahathir is willing to be used ?. Why disrespect the chair of Deputy PM ?.
Anwar reputation hs taken a bruising, when the very team he backs up (which he wasnt supposed to show) lost in PKR party election. This should hv given him signal that PKR itself hs evolved, its no longer 'taksub' PKR=Anwar as PM.
I believe his chance to elevate his Charismatic stature was missed, He could hv announce publicly upon his release frm jail, that he'll waive the promise handover PM seat (which is UnDemocratic, if u ask me🤭) , and let Mahathir hv full reign full term.
I really thought the midterm handover was wayang, Anwar would declare his faith to Mahathir, then hug. Kiss..kiss .. that would really shoved his stature wayyyyy up there😁. Alas it was not to be...

Mahathir started straying away into international politics eg picking on India in its internal politics and thereby losing massive income from India from sale of palm oil. He then started trying to head an Islamic group of countries which incl Pakistan the great holder of minority human rights etc. This ended in failure. Having been elected by nearly all the races of Malaysia he strayed into the lobby of people who wanted to give rights to one predominant race. He is the victim of the two-faced politics he was playing. By his own actions he had outlived his usefulness to Malaysia.
