@@CashCollecta Michael Jordan was not a member of the NBAPA so no game devs could use his likeness in officially licensed NBA games. It wasn't until he was 100% retired is when he finally allowed his likeness to be used.
This is the first basketball game I played on any next gen console and it blew me away how complex it was, just the controls were enough to blow your mind as a 13 year old or however old I was. I came from NBA Jam and Barkley Shut up and Jam and Madden 95, so playing this was crazy, it felt like a sim game, like I shouldn't even be playing it. People put hours into this game too, that's whats even crazier. They would take out their memory card before they let you play lol.
I used to play with the Lakers a lot on this game. I loved when at some point whenever you did something phenomenal with Kobe or Shaq, Don would yell “SHOWTIME!!” In my opinion EA was WAY ahead of its time with the Live series. ‘95 Live was the first was in what was actually a pretty long basketball video game tenure for EA, starting with the “Lakers vs Celtics, and the NBA Playoffs” in ‘89 for computers. The first two teams in the title would change through the years until the game became titled “NBA Showdown” in ‘93. NBA Showdown had an inbound the ball play where you could actually throw a lob from the sideline. I used that play so much with Chris Webber and the Warriors lol. The next year was the first NBA Live game in ’94. The alley-oops were the best! Just toss it to a player close to the rim or driving the lane, and as long as it was clear the second player would catch it in the air and flush it! Live ‘96 gave you the opportunity to create a player, with an easter egg being if you entered the name of certain rookies at the time, they would appear with their bios already listed! What I found so unique and remarkable was EA’s ability to make television inspired presentation, the intro would use real game footage highlights during the intro. That feature, along with real announcers, and a few other bells and whistles made the series so awesome. So awesome that was the NBA 2K lineup began to compete, NBA 2K had to marketed as 50% cheaper than NBA Live (NFL2K did the same thing when they competed for sales with Madden). I for one hate that EA just fell off the map after Live 2010. I really enjoyed the whole NBA Live series
@@JamieCowan-cc5xc the first 2k came out the same year (1999). Live remained the most popular amongst buyers until about 2K5-2K6. I personally preferred 2K games from the time I played 2K2 for the first time onwards.
i went through the playoffs with the four custom teams and they were top ten ultimate teams and the starting lineups were pg oscar robertson sg michael jordan sf magic johnson c wilt chamberlain and pf bill russell
Live in the early to mid 2000’s was goated

@@TimC-tm5gbI think he possibly meant the games, either way he's not wrong lol
The Game where you could finally play with MJ by beating him one-on-one. One of my favorite NBA Live games! 🔥
I always wondered why he was never in the previous ones was it the whole nbpa licensing issue ?
@@CashCollecta not sure, but probably. Given the fact how popular he was in the 90's, it's a shame they had these licensing issues.
@@CashCollecta probably because he owned the rights to his own likeness. Charles Barkley did the same thing back then.

Nba live was huge back then until 2005
Remember back in basketball games when you could press the steal button and your guy didn't go into an nfl tackling animation. Those were the days.
Exactly and I Miss Those Days of Sports Games Like NBA Live 2000!
The startup was best sound in the world damn memories flowing in right now 😅 so much I took for granted
