Great to know...I figured as much. Thanks for taking the time to make the video👍
Absolutely 👍 glad you enjoyed
After using the quinn for 2 weeks at work I prefer it over the gearwrench because of the handle. I hope the come out with the locking flex head version of it. It won’t replace my go to matco or snap on ratchets but it’s a great back up for me. Its a great option for anyone starting out and will last them quite awhile.
If you want a locking flex get the husky ones at the depot they have a 3\8 and 1\2" I have them both and they are nice to use. I would rather see they put this out with a non locking flex. Also it seems they are either rebranding their Pittsburgh pro ratchet line to just Pittsburgh or phasing out the Pittsburgh pro line altogether? I think they should phase out the Pittsburgh lines and just make everything Pittsburgh a little better quality and market it under the quinn label. But the husky ,100 tooth locking flex are apex made dual pawl fifty tooth gear ratchets with the same gear wrench internals.
gw same basic ratchet as matco guts will swap back and forth easily do it all the time
Great job, Triple-T. I like how the selector switch on the Quinn has a lower profile than the ICON version. It seems when Harbor Freight was having the ICON ratchet designed the final step was the selector switch and HF said, “Ahh, that’s good enough”.
Haha ya agreed. I like the icon line up bit I feel like they rushed some of the items
Thanks for the heads up - especially about removing it from the packaging...yikes! Hopefully HF sees this video and makes some changes to that packaging, because that will definitively be an issue if it happens often. Other than that, though - looks like a super nice ratchet for $25! Thanks for the video : )
Agreed!! And ya I think so as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Glad you enjoyed
I have the 3/8 ratchet and i had it a few weeks, I really like it seems to be a great ratchet for the price, I'm gonna buy the other two. Thanks for the video
Very nice and ya definitely a good ratchet for the price!!
Had the Quinn a few weeks. $20 with a coupon. It’s smooth, the back drag is nice and it’s comfortable. Hard to beat it, really.
Agreed. Definitely a good ratchet for the price
HF just killed their ICON sales.
I pushed the 3/8” and 1/2” Pittsburgh long handle flex head ratchets hard and seriously thought they would break or snap.
To my surprise, they didn’t.
Plus lifetime warranty.
thanks for the review, please more of these
Thank you. Will do!!
Appreciate the review. I’d been thinking about picking up the Quinn out of curiousity after owning a few of the Gearwrench and haven’t gotten around to it yet.
No problem at all
Never heard of a Quinn fanboy, and I’m not one ha ha but I love your channel. To defend Quinn, it is possible that your screw driver just snagged the spring clip, or u snagged a piece of plastic and it grabbed the clip and popped it all off. I don’t know. I’ve never bought Quinn although probably should have back in the day. I used to just go to harbor freight to buy the cheapest thing and rarely went. Now I actually buy icon and also the cheapest but am realizing that Quinn is a great option that I need to
Use
Ya I'm not sure exactly how that thing just came apart. I'm just glad I didn't lose any of the pieces lol. And ya quinn wasn't really a brand I looked at all that often when they first released the brand. Bc I was either going for a cheap item I only needed once or a couple times in my life or I was getting the better quality stuff for a good price. Now that quinn is stepping up I think it's a great mid ground when it comes to the hf hand tools 👍
I picked up a SATA 120XP 1/4" ratchet after seeing TH-cam teardown videos showing it to be identical to the Gearwrench, but less than half the price.
Since Apex owns both SATA and Gearwrench, they probable are.
Tony, I had a ratchet with a chip in the snap ring groove of the handle that caused the same setting problem. You may want to run a pick through the groove. By the way the Sata are a little less money with the rubber grip and yes only 72 teeth but they work just fine.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely take a look
Absolutely the same, love it too. Always great to have options.
Agreed. I always like more options 👍
Nice work on the video, I'm not using standard size 3/8 ratchets much, but it certainly looks like the Quinn is a good option since I really like my GW ratchets. The issue being I prefer the longer reach and flex heads mostly.
Thank you and ya I agree. Hopefully we see some longer versions and some flex heads
I've got all three Quinn ratchets which are super smooth and comfortable. They probably won't come out with locking flex head ratchets but it'd still be cool if they did.
Very nice. And ya I agree
A good side by side. Thanks Tony
Thank you
Excellent comparison.
Thank you 👍👍👍
If a tool comes apart while removing packaging I'm out. Kudos to you for not tossing it to the trash in 6 pieces.
Hahaha ya I was pretty shocked. Idk of they just didn't cut the groove deep enough for the snap ring or if the snap ring is to big but they better fix that.
Excellent video great job 👍🏻
Thank you!!
I like most of my Quinn tools.
A 1/4 ratchet being one I don’t care for. I have old school craftsman, kobalt, popular mechanics, husky
Been thinking about getting some gearwrench 90tooth ratchets and saw these new Quinn and passed
Might give one a try now.
Really like the little icon bit ratchet set
1/4" ratchets are the only ones I won't buy from HF, everything else is great for the price.
Wow good comparison and doesn't look bad for a budget priced ratchet.
Thank you and ya I agree 👍
That quinn has real nice grip handle! I picked one up. I'm still big gearwrench fan though 👍
Agreed. Thanks for sharing
Great Video! Thank you!
Thank you!!!
Nice ratchet. Hope they come out with a Flex Head.
BRO F BUYING GEARWRENCH THEY MAKE THE WARRANTY A HASTLE SOMETIMES IF ITS CLOSE TO THE SAME IM GOING QUINN! I love my gear wrench as much as my icon but now I’m going quin 😂
Ya lol I have always enjoyed gearwrench and have some great tools from them but now I have to be selective of what I buy from them and ya your right gearwrench really needs to work on a new warranty process.
Yup, this is why I stopped buying new tools from GW, shame.
Buyer Beware!
I bought the 3/8 Quinn ratchet on 12/23 and I carefully tried to remove from the package and the same thing happened. The snap ring isn’t seated correctly because the seat in the head is too shallow. The internals popped out of the ratchet head with very minimal effort. I walked right back into HF and returned for another ratchet, only to have the same thing happen. I agree the handle and overall design is much better than Pittsburgh and even the Icon. But that doesn’t really matter when the ratchet becomes unusable after unpacking.
What do you expect for $20? All cheap s... Order the best ratchet or any other tool in the world from german manufacturer HAZET. Google them. Quality has its price but they will not disappoint you. Those heads are sealed and will never come apart. Every ratchet which can be taken apart by hand on the first place is garbage. HAZET was found in 1868. Good luck.
Haven’t warrantied yet, however after breaking two 10mm bolts free underneath my intake, once I got to the third i sheered the anvil straight out of the head. The bolts were tight, but not that tight. And to be fair, it did break that third bolt. I’ll have to warranty it and try again
Good comparison . Need to wait for sale at harbor freight .
Thanks and ya you can get the 3/8 for 20 on sale
To get the packaging off you just press the quick release button and pull it off lol
I tried that and the quick release button fell off lol
Is the new Capri 90T 3/8 ratchet the same as these 2?
20% off all Quinn hand tools till the end of the year. Picked up all three just now for $60. Honestly it’s unbeatable for professional grade tools. Can we get a review of NAPA’s Carlye 60 tooth tear drops ? When on sale the pricing is identical. I had the hardest time choosing between the two. Thanks
Have Quinn and GW 90T in 1/4 and 3/8 and love em. Quinn 90T IMO is way better than the icon. Hope they come out with a locking flex like the GW.
Agreed. That would be a great addition
I like the gear wrench handle slightly more than the Quinn. But gear wrench will get my money until Quinn comes out with a flex head then I'll buy one.
Thanks Tony. I have a question about Gearwrench in general. Are they still making products in Taiwan? I saw a set of ratchet wrencheson a nice sale at Tractor Supply, but they Vietnamese manufacture and assembled in mainland China.
Ya with gearwrench its a mix for all of the tools. Some Taiwan and some China and you will see a big difference in the quality. Especially with the ratcheting wrenches. Look for the Taiwan made ones
taiwan mostly but lots made in the CCP also
Thank you Sir
Thank you!!!
Good job!
Thank you
For all intents and purposes they are exactly the same. Impressive on the part of HF.
bought this when they had the 20% off quinn coupon cuz why not. I used it once and the whole thing fell apart. like some sort of comedy sketch. brought it back into the store and they gave me a comfort grip icon. happy to have a better ratchet but wont buy any quinn ratchets again.
Great review...
Thank you!
what I hate about the icon is the grip, the gripped ones feel like thick plastic. For a premium ratchet their grip was not too impressive
easier warranty on the quinn too
Very true
I picked this ratchet up today with the spend $24.99 and get a free item coupon. I'm in ITC so I got all 3 items free! It was perfect becuase the 3/8" is $24.99. The ratchet is really nice, but I will say nothing compares to the black and red Pittsburgh Pro for low backdrag. For a cheap ratchet that thing is really hard to beat. I like the quick release on it too. @@TonyTheTechnician
I see a definite need for these mid tier ratchets. I use a Gearwrench set for mobile repairs… that said most of my ratchets are Snap On and there is a HUGE difference. Go drive a ford fiesta, then a McLaren…. I get if you can’t afford it, that’s valid, but to staunchly hold on to an argument that Snap On isn’t in a league of their own when it comes to ratchets…. Well that’s just silly. Not saying you present that attitude at all, just the haters out there. Great video!
Thank you and absolutely! Every Tool has a place some who rarely use tools, someone who uses them a couple times a month and someone who uses tools constantly definitely need different quality ranges of tools. I love my snap on tools and I also enjoy my mid tier tools. All just depends on the abuse the job is going to take
@@TonyTheTechnician Spot on! I use mine for a living but mid tier stuff will suffice on certain jobs. Most of my stuff is Snap On but have assorted other brands. One you need to try is KOKEN Japan… You will be blown away. Just bought about 2k worth last year. It’s like japans version of Snap On. In some cases better!
Picked up the Quinn ratchet and man I gotta say the back drag is awful. Very stiff. Should I return it? Is it possibly defective?
Compared to my Tekton 3/8 ratchet the Quinn has 2-3 times more backdrag. Just very stiff
Oh dang ya it's probably defective I would swap it out and check the one you pick out before leaving.
I have GW 90T, just bought some more and they're stiffer out of the box. Wear them in
I just wonder how long "Quinn" will be offering these Gearwrench clones?....Apex is for sale and has been for sale for awhile...Apex is the mother company of Gearwrench as we all know....If Apex gets sold, who is to say that they will continue their deal with Quinn/Harbor Freight?.....These Quinn ratchets might be around for a few years and then just disappear altogether.....I never thought I would say this about Harbor Freight but if there ever was a Harbor Freight tool that could become "collectable" in the future, these Quinn ratchets might fit the bill.
By the way hand ratches should always come with a comfort grip. What BS is that to sell them raw handled. Only in the US customers will be fooled like that. The same thing applies for electric wrenches being sold tool only. Unbelievable.
Theyre shooting themselves in the foot. Why buy the overpriced icon rachets that are an awful value when you can buy a better rachet from quinn for less?
There are a few tool sets they only offer in Icon. Which is how they offset the brands.
No idea why you think they're an "awful" value? They're pretty much tool truck quality for a waaaay lower price. Especially considering almost no one buys these at full price.
The quinns only come in a fixed head version.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the harbor freight junk was held to higher standards than the newer gearwrench
You haven't been to Harbor Freight lately have you?... they've got some decent stuff these days..and not just hand tools...✔️
@@boosted2.4_skywas just there two weeks ago sir. The quality stuff isn’t worth their new price tag these days
Ya I like gearwrench but honestly with the new stuff they have tools all over the quality spectrum
What a garbage when the whole plate already came off trying to pop off the plastic which was sticked on. That never should habe happen. Thst already shows the very bad quality.
