    Buying and trying these Quinn ratchets actually got me to buy the Gearwrench 90T locking flex head ratchets which I really love.

    Tooth count is what is selling ratchets nowadays. Have you seen the new craftsman with 180 position and also the new SK 216 position? It's a part of the tool companies advertising. I'm waiting for the 500 position ratchet. Coming soon. Most regular people who don't know any better are gonna go for the ratchet with the big numbers.

    • @_P0tat07_
      @_P0tat07_ 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yup. Anything past 90 teeth is useless for 99% of work.

      A lot of people seem to obsess on backdrag. Ko-ken is selling tons even with just 72 teeth. Snap-on sells a ton too because they're Snap-on even with just 80 teeth.
      SK doesn't have a 216 ratchet do they? That's their X-frame wrenches. Which aren't reversible and some people want that, aren't flex and some want that, and now aren't US made which lots of sore tushies about that still since it's a fresh development.

      @@AToolWithTools ya, I just use what I have, honestly I don't think I ever even thought about how many teeth a ratchet had until they started being attention to it.

      @6atlantis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      There’s not even that many teeth. When they advertise 120 teeth for example it’s two pawls laying on each other.

      @@stevensko9153 I tried to link the 216 position SK socket set but it would not work. Lowe's is selling SK tools now and they have a set with a 216p round head ratchet. Looks pretty interesting, I'm gonna pick the set up soon mainly for the complete set of SAE sockets 3/8"......1/4-1" shallow and deep.

    I really like the Quinn's tho, I have the 3/8 & 1/4 so far, I couldn't get all three at once because I'm just that poor, but I'll the the 1/2 inch on my next trip to HF. I hope they expand the Quinn ratchet line and start selling some longer ones and flex head ones in the future.

    I paid $10 more on each for the best back drag I've ever seen in 11/23 for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 Koken Zeal series ratchets. I don't need to see your try any other ratchet after them they're the ones for me for sure. No more going around and having to hold the back side of the socket so it actually twists on or off. Koken are Japanese and do take some time to ship hear. The weight they have is great I just done see needing the lifetime warranty on them. But if I do it will take a minute I'm sure. But the quality for just another $10 each if money well Spent.

    My $15 ratchets (72T) are fine, been using them for years. This is just for fun for me at this point. Just got the 90t Gearwrench, I may just return them and get these, now 20% off. Thanks for the video!

    I prefer my Icon ratchets. The thin low profile Quin 1/4" ratchet with comfort grip is comfortable.
    Just my opinion. I think a thicker fine tooth ratchet head and gear is less likely to fail.
    I grew up in the 70's and 80's. Crafts. Stan. Great N. Mostly coarse tooth ratchets.

    The best "budget" ratchet in my opinion. It doesn't seem like much sperates it from Matco. As far as a true Snap On knock off, it doesn't seem like there is one now that matches it's unique internals....
    Good video as always

    When the Icons first came out there was a special on the 3/8 and 1/4 stubby ones. Came together in the cute little package with the polishing cloth. All for $35. So I picked them up to try them. I never use them precisely because of the backdrag. The 1/4 in particular is ridiculous. I've had them both apart trying to address the backdrag but to no avail. So they sit in the corner of the tool box. Every once in a while I'll grab one of them to reassure myself they are that bad, and they are.

    All Quinn hand tools 30% off (35 for ITC members) right now for the next 3 days. These are better than the current fixed head Icons.
    I have a feeling that Quinn is about to become the new Pittsburgh Pro or the old Pittsburgh Pro is going to be soon if not already now for some items the new Quinn (check out the new Quinn impact sockets that come in a case now for example, same as what the old Pittsburgh Pro were sans the case just before they cleared them all out) and that an entire new Icon line of ratchets will be coming out.

    As much as they’re undercutting themselves, they’re also undercutting gear wrench, which is the only honest price close competitor to the icon. Everybody I know is buying that Quinn it’s the exact same tool with a much easier warranty, no matter what HarborFreight wins.

      @@stevensko9153 in all honesty tekton tools are great but most people want the whole complete sets and gear wrench is more align to icon spending like a ratchet here a socket set there over time. But even I a icon Quinn husky buyer I feel like tekton is just a little more than I’m comfortable spending as a diy semi pro

      Harbor freight doesn't make tools harbor freight sources tools already made by other manufacturers and gets their name stamped on it. So I'm sure gearwrench is getting a cut of whatever harbor freight sells them for. Because the design of these ratchets from gearwrench are not old enough to where the patents have ran out And harbor freight can just copy them blatantly like icon and a lot of their hand tools they make ripoffs of snap on for a ¼ of the cost. Because gear wrench is owned by Apex tool group which is also owns crescent and a few other brands. So I'm sure harbor freight has struck up a deal with Apex to be able to offer their ratchets under a different brand and Apex stool group still gets their cut

    I like my Gearwrench 90s. I think they at least as good as Icons. I have an SK LP90, and I far prefer the GW. The LP90 freezes up- its on its second set of internals, and no improvement.
    The advantage for Quin is the ability to swap them out at a local HF store. Nothing beats same day warranty replacement!

    I can attest to a gearwrench 120xp extra long handle 1/2 ratchet take abuse i have seen tool truck ratchet let go. We put a 3ton jack handle and two of us on it to pressout a ball joint on a ram 2500 that was stuck, even putting torches to it while wrenching, handle flexed ALOT from the massive torque being apllied, yeswe are both stout dude's, ratchet shruggedit off, say what you want about gearwrench. Oh yes this ratchet is a daily used tool in a repair shop and is now where near being new, i know its at minimum is 5 years old

    I love and hate high tooth count ratchets. With cars, low arc swing situations happen way more than they should. What is the reward to having a beautiful low arc swing wrench? It works, but it involves a LOT of back and forths, typically while leaning/reaching into a brutally uncomfortable position.

    An excellent video with an interesting ratchet comparison. I would not have thought to compare that Quinn ratchet against the other two, but was surprised with the detailed results. The Quinn line still remains quite a decent alternative for some tools, and their ratchets would probably do well for purposes.
    I have a SATA 120 tooth ratchet that works fine, yet my collection of various brand 90 and 72 tooth ratchets do about as well.

    Interesting, I have that same Gearwrench 90T 3/8 drive ratchet which is one of my favorites. The version without the comfort grip won a ratchet competition on Project Farm, before which I'd never heard a peep about it. I didn't even realize Quinn had ratchets at HFT. With a lifetime warranty on hand tools I feel like it doesn't matter much if a high-tooth count ratchet ultimately breaks if you get a lot of use out of it, *if* it provides an advantage.
