I’ve never heard of Chicken Bog. Having been born and raised and lived my whole life in California I’m finding now that recipes and food traditions are very different across the country. This looks like a good comfort food dish to warm you to the bones on a cold winter day. Happy that you are recovering nicely.

I am so excited for this recipe! I also grew up on rice everything, my mother being from Mississippi, and she did make a version of this.
About 20 plus years ago the author Dorthea Benton Frank mentioned this recipe in her book "Plantation (Lowcountry Tales Book 2)" but she called it Chicken Pilau (pronounced perlow according to her book). I searched high and low for that recipe and even asked Dorthea Benton Frank herself, years before she passed, if Bog and Pilau were the same thing. She said she didn't know. And according to the book- your recipe is exactly what's in the book although you all give quantities and Dorthea Benton Frank adds a bay leaf and a ton of pepper.

The trick to good chicken bog is lots of black pepper at the end. It gives such a good flavor (unless you hate pepper, of course). Welcome back--hope your new leg gives you a pep in your step!
