The Greats are always in super vision of someone god like. Thats why get or find a '' GURU '' a teacher actually not just a teacher higher than mentor.
I love this Duet with Tony & Dennis! I just always remember wishing that they put both their 'VOLUME LEVELS' the same!! Otherwise, it was always nice to see Dennis play support to the young phenom.
Agreed. The speed, power, dynamics and sheer musical ability of Dennis Chambers, is done in one of the most relaxed states I have ever witnessed. I believe that other than chops, relaxation is key. Taking nothing away from Tony in this clip, Dennis is one of the most talented musicians to ever have played the instrument...and he's from Baltimore. Thanks for representing our city Dennis and thanks for the clip Bob! Like Dennis, your instructional videos are also an inspiration.
Bloody hell, I can't believe what some of you think. For god's sake, this is music it's not a sport or competition. Music goes a lot deeper and holier than who's quicker or more skilful. They weren't playing to show who's best or quicker, they were playing together because they respect and admire each other and love their music.
well dennis chambers is monster enough as always. dynamite of a player. 14 year old tony, insanely good for his age, the two of them together..ill sum it up in 3 words...OH...MY.....GOD!!!!!
I can't believe people are making comments about Tony playing against a legend when he was only 14, now he has only gotten better. shut the hell up and appreciate how much of a beast Tony was for his age...go to anything he's doing right now and Tony has double the speed and control he had then!
what do say about this? Simply amazing...lost for words, freaks of nature.Child Prodigies... Wayne Gretzky- hockey player Tiger Woods- golfer Tony Royster Jr- Drummer
Thanks again Nasty! I haven't watched this video in many years so decided to sit back and check it out. brings back so many memories, how cool it was to gang up Dennis and Tony. But most of all to hear Tony today and how talented he was as a kid.... amazing stuff!!
the best thing about this was that chambers didnt come out rippin from the beginnin. he paced himself and let royster have his shine then tore it up at the end just to let everyone know he's the greatest drummer on the face of the planet. but this video is really old i wanna see these 2 get back together and play again
That has to be one of the biggest understatments of the century. Sure Tony is a great drummer, but he is the grasshopper here... He is definitely letting him shine if he wants to he can make this kid nonexistent... Do a search for Dennis Chambers Buddy Rich memorial concert and watch what he does to Greg Bissonet.. Then watch this one again.
EXCELLENT TONY, ALREADY, A FUTURE "JAZZ MUSIC DRUMMER" LEGEND, AND "SO YOUNG" TOO. TONY, KEEP WITHIN, THESE "BLACK MUSIC" FORMS, IE, JAZZ MUSIC, SOUL MUSIC, OR FUNK MUSIC, AS YOU ALREADY DO, AND FUTURE, MUSIC STARDOM, AND SUCCESS, WILL BE ASSURED, TO YOU. NICE, TONY, NICE. *MIKE SPENCE. (THE WORLDS ONLY, AUTHORITY & EXPERT, ON "JAZZ MUSIC", THAT IS ME, AND, OTHER THINGS.)
Dennis Chambers takes Tony Royster to town. He may be a drum prodigy or w/e, but you can still tell he's a young drummer because although his technique is extremely refined, he repeats his ideas. Dennis is always fresh and although he's always fast his ideas are diverse. That can only come with more age and experience though, and i give madd props to Tony Royster.
Gee I'm glad you asked. Next to drumming and running my 3rd favorite environment is the studio... composing and documenting (recording) music. When "midi" first hit the market I was an instant devotee. I began doing clinics for Simmons drums using a classic Mac with a 4-track sequencing program called "MEGA-TRACKS"... makes me chuckle to think about how midi and digital recording has progressed! So, yes I write & record all the music on my DVD projects and YT videos.
LOL! Could not have said it better myself. Turn off the HaterAid ppl! Tony is absolutely amazing. He is better at 14yrs old than most drummers will every be! Go Tony!
i don't know who could say that they are more lucky for drumming with each other. Roster Jnr for being able to jam alongside Chambers, or Chambers for jamming alongside with Royster Jnr. Crazy good drummers.
whoa! double bass kid! geez i didnt think there were any left! lol i have never seen a rum stool like thatbefore...well i guess in this case itd be a chair but still its really cool and this kid is good!
AMAZING Nice to find super drummers actually exist, where have I been? Awesome both drummers and the 14 yr old? I'd love to see him on stage with the R&B stars killin it!
There is a huge difference in musicality between the tony when he was 12 years old and here in this video (where he is 14 years old). I think he developed very much in musicality in 2 years... :-D wonderful video
He was gettin fed drumming and music from a very young age.. That's why he's turned out to be the amazing drummer that he is today. He mentioned that D.C was his biggest drumming influence when he started out playing, so I'm sure he knew who he was. =)
I think its a way of respecting each others skills and stuff! They're both great drummers, but different. 5 stars absolutely!! Greetz from outta Holland!
We produced this in 1999 for Warner Bros Music Publishing. which now Alfred Music Publishing. The video title is "Common Ground" and yes, it's on DVD now.
esse muleck e uma maquina !!!!!!!!!!!! tambem toco bateria e as pessoas me elogiam muito mas muito do que fasso aprendi vendo os videos de tony royster jr
The song title is "Outro"... it was the last tune, the "out" tune on the DVD project. I write all the tunes for the videos I produce. I'm thinking about creating a series of drum-less mixes for drummers to practice with. Thanks for reminding me.
10 pc with 6. It was 1980 dude. Had to have the double kick with the chrome deep ass toms. Dont forget to take the bottom heads off either and duct tape the top heads. LOL! Ahh,,,,back before I knew anything. Good Days. LOL!
I dunno, but if anybody here has actually seen the Dennis Chambers video where he plays "Dancing Men" with the Buddy Rich Band, I think he is holding it off here. He is the best though.
Dennis is giving little tony a "go ahead, time for you to shine boy"....a lot of respect going on...
Holy shit! All the pros that Tony got to play with growing up. No wonder he's such a badass.
Chambers has been Royster's mentor ever since he was a kid, and in my opinion Royster is leading the next generation of drummers.
I love how Dennis gives Tony room, and not overplaying .
Anybody else in love with Tony's snare drum sound? Wow I'm in love with that tightened sound.
All I have to say is this Kid who is now a man is a force to be reconed with. He is an amazing drummer in any genre.
Hi Dennis... Great memories! I'll never forget the watching you two!
Its actually true that dennis was asleep the whole time and was playing that. Then he woke up at about 2:55 and played a little warm up
tony's snare absolutely sounds great.... sounds like pure gold
One of the greatest drummer. In the world!!
Bob Gatzen hey bob!
I bet i could drum like that if Dennis Chambers was my mentor.
The Greats are always in super vision of someone god like. Thats why get or find a '' GURU '' a teacher actually not just a teacher higher than mentor.

does any one else realizes the sound of tony's snare.......that is friggin awesome
you can really tell the difference between the pros and everyone else when you hear guys like this play simple patterns and they're just so solid
Genius drummers...we love Dennis so much...
Bloody hell, I can't believe what some of you think. For god's sake, this is music it's not a sport or competition. Music goes a lot deeper and holier than who's quicker or more skilful. Man i grew up listenin and Idolizing Tony Royster Jr. The dude is phenomenal.
Keep up the good work henry... that's exactly what Dennis & Tony thrive on!. Listen to the DT video a hundred times!!!! heh heh...BG
Hard to miss with great players. It was inspiring to produce this video.

Like to see this now Tony and Dennis 2019
well dennis chambers is monster enough as always. dynamite of a player. 14 year old tony, insanely good for his age, the two of them together..ill sum it up in 3 words...OH...MY.....GOD!!!!!

gotta love the snare...
gonna see the henderson, berlin, chambers trio next week..
can't wait..
I agree 100 percent. This was roysters big moment. Dennis gave it to Tony to shine. And that was very professional of him!
the best thing about this was that chambers didnt come out rippin from the beginnin. he paced himself and let royster have his shine then tore it up at the end just to let everyone know he's the greatest drummer on the face of the planet. but this video is really old i wanna see these 2 get back together and play again
God truely blessed tony royster!!
Expertise excellence from the young AND the olde.

Remember that being a drummer isn't just something you do for love, it's also a JOB.
The two drummers i grew up listening to
Dennis Chambers takes Tony Royster to town. He may be a drum prodigy or w/e, but you can still tell he's a young drummer because although his technique is extremely refined, he repeats his ideas. Mine too, but I was playing before Dennis came into my life. Still a major inspiration for me as well.
Thanks on the vid
Lol your fantastic. Single, lonley and angry? You should be a comedian the way you come up with this gold on here :)
that is trully amazing.
i don't know who could say that they are more lucky for drumming with each other. Roster Jnr for being able to jam alongside Chambers, or Chambers for jamming alongside with Royster Jnr.
Crazy good drummers.

I've watched a great deal more of Dennis Chambers AND Tony Royster then just that one clip my friend.. Dennis was the one being schooled there.
AMAZING Nice to find super drummers actually exist, where have I been? Awesome both drummers and the 14 yr old? I'd love to see him on stage with the R&B stars killin it!
Its so nice of dennis to sit back and let Tony run the show!
There is a huge difference in musicality between the tony when he was 12 years old and here in this video (where he is 14 years old). I think he developed very much in musicality in 2 years... :-D
wonderful video

Man, the two of them. Must have been an astonishing amount of energy flying around the place there. :D
I think its a way of respecting each others skills and stuff! They're both great drummers, but different. 5 stars absolutely!! Greetz from outta Holland!

That snare sure is cranked up! And perhaps a piccolo snare as well?
Thanks so much!
