  • A huge abandoned house sits hidden deep in the mountains of Wales guarded by kennels full of dogs, Matt and Andy sneak into the cellars only to be confronted by an Army of bats, but is this the least of their worries?
Built in 1778 and changing uses many times this grand building was visited by the now queen Elizabeth before she was made Queen!

Hi. Great explore! Good thing you didn't have Bear with you to give you away. In that first room the doorway with the groove into the wall was for a large bar to go across the door. Maybe it was a cell or larder door? The carved mouldings would be from doorways, window frames, corridor arches, library shelves, stairways and bannisters, fireplaces and mantelpieces - I think probably to be used for the restoration. Hope someone finishes it. I would say they were planning on either plasterboarding or timber-lining throughout with insulation for warmth, and then using the mouldings to make it look more authentic. I agree that I'd have used the old fireplace as as a feature. Loved the sweep of the staircase. It might well be that the restoration was stopped because of the bats, being a protected species. You're not allowed to boot them out of a roosting place, or even disturb them. My mother had problems with just pointing a barn because there were bats in the roof. Another scary exit! Pity the explore was cut short, but I think you were wise - farmers or locals might not be as forgiving as police... I didn't see the woman. Were you thinking she was a ghost, or someone living there/keeping it safe?

I was once a housekeeper in a similar sized house. The small bricked area at the end of the wine cellar would probably have the big doors on and spirits/ expensive wine would've been in there , the butler would have the only key. The large safe door with the smaller safes inside would most likely be where silverware and possibly jewellery and money would be kept. Now I'm away to watch the rest :)

@@FINDERSBEEPERS .. .. Luckily I don't have to think too far back as I only stopped working there in 2010 :) Loved seeing the plug/waste on the bath and just remember in the "big houses" if the paintwork's painted a shitty brown colour then it's servants quarters. We still had the outside game larder, under ground icehouse in the garden, copper, wooden and enamelled sinks in the different pantries for different purposes. All the bathrooms had the original fittings from when they were first put in in the Edwardian era and the laundry was amazing. I'll probably drive you bonkers with chipping in! I'm just trying to catch up on some of your other visits as I only just stumbled across you both... I maybe gone sometime :)

That view there and the vibe, just the countryside is so beautiful. Is this where you are from? That slug is like the ones we have here in Oregon! Our climate looks a lot like the UK's to me.

I bet it all boils down to warmth, because fireplaces cause draughts, stone is cold, and the spaces are so big that heating it would be a nightmare. The stairwell alone would cost a fortune, so it would be a choice between lining plus insulation, or possibly massive tapestries. Either would need some form of heating as well. Plus double-glazing or secondary glazing as there's a lot of glass (some broken), which is also cold. I bet the double-layer of old parquet flooring was an attempt to reduce cold as well.

The photograph that shows Henekeys and the tram is Enfield Town in North London. It is less than a 10 minutes walk from where I live. Many of the buildings are still there, including the fountain which can be seen on the right. The Henekeys building is an old coaching inn and still exists and is now a restaurant. The tram is on Church Street. The road heads straight into what is now Southbury Road, but probably Nags Head Road when the picture was taken. The tram tracks curved to the left and head north into Silver Street. The Lloyds Bank on the corner is still there. The road going off to the right is London Road.

@@FINDERSBEEPERS No idea. I suppose whoever owned the house in Wales may have had a connection to the area. Trams made it to Enfield Town in 1911 and the windmill was demolished in 1904 so maybe the connection dates to around then. Thanks for the video.

@@FINDERSBEEPERS Yes, Cul-de-Sac means dead end street, but if you translate it word by word it means 'ass' (rear end) of a sack or a bag. It makes perfect sense to me. When you drive into a cul-de-sac you are as we would say in the ass, you can't go back out. You must drive through. German we use ass in a similar sense, for example 'living at the ass of the world.' - to live in the in the sticks. (German: am Arsch der Welt leben)

Lovely place it's a shame that they seemed to have stripped all the things out to leave it in such a bad way, and covering up such lovely fire places

In Sacramento California, a lane usually has no outlet and no documented lanes. A street , drive has two way marked and avenue always has an outlet by law. This is done in case someone gets lost , they know which roads to take. A road can have an outlet or no outlet, but is smaller than an avenue or boulevard and is only two lanes.A cul de sac or court is one way in, one way out,...a boulevard or avenue has more lanes, usually four to six, can handle heavier traffic and is used as a main thoroughfare. A way, can be no outlet or outlet but must be marked and usually has homes and is very rural as a lane is as well. Freeways are only within state. Interstate crossed state lines. Did I miss anything? Lol

WOW!!! Very very cool place & it’s definitely in the middle of nowhere!!! I visited Wales many years ago as a kid & its beautiful!!!!! The arched walls of the basement is super cool!!! The old spiral staircase & all the old carved wood banisters & stuff are incredible!!! Those definitely looked like pigs!!! Do u know when that place was built? 1800’s?
