    Thanks for your video. It helped a lot. I just changed my pump today. Removing the rear wheel and fender brace made a lot more working room.

    I've used this method twice. Tight work space but a lot easier than dropping the tank.

    Did this to my truck also, 2 welded nuts spun in circles ,so I used 2 - 6 inch long drills 1/8 inch & 1/4 drilled next to the bolt washer on a 30 degree angle, toward center of bolt inside of frame, then I stuck a 1/4 bolt through frame and was able to remove bolt without nut spinning, reverse this procedure to install and nut plate is re - useable. "Spark free procedure"

    On the Silverado you do not have to cut any wires or remove the tail light. Behind the bumper under the truck you simply unplug the wires in question from the plugin mounted on the chassis. The same may be true for the Sierra. Check and see or watch the Silverado tilt bed method for an understanding.

    • @mmercier9
      @mmercier9  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Understood, I did unplug the light but had to cut the cap light wires because it was hard wired with no connector. Thank you for the advice about the location of the light connector.

    Yellow black is ground to fuel gauge,
    purple is fuel gauge +5 volts,
    grey is fuel pump +12 volts, only shows the +12 volts for 2 seconds after key its turned on.
    Black is grounded to frame. In the same ground spot the fuel cap ground strap is grounded, is a short black wire that exits the Wire harness between cab and box Mine just broke here when I was changing brake line to rear, so if a pump is not pumping check this ground spot.

    Can you just loosen the fuel filter and see if fuel is leaking if you don't have a fuel pressure gauge?

    • @mmercier9
      @mmercier9  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe not 100% accurate but could try it. Thinking you may have low pressure but fuel would flow with filter line open.

      Mine doesn't. I have to assume the fuel pump has failed. Either it died or it's not getting power.
      I'm going to take out the relay and see if any pole slot gets power for a few seconds after the key is turned on.
      I think that's controlled by the computer.
      Then I'll use a jumper wire to keep the pump powered and whack on the tank to see if I can get the pump running.
      I'm dreading the job of having to drop this fuel tank. I think I have to find the tool that releases the fuel line connections. Why does every job require some kind on NASA special tool? Argggg

    My friend paid $600 to have this done. I was curious what was involved. Do you worry about any sparks, arcs, static electricity, etc setting off the gas fumes? Should you ground the area somehow with a wire to prevent this?

    • @mmercier9
      @mmercier9  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grounding can't hurt. Probably best to ground yourself before working in the area of the fuel tank opening. Touch see bare metal like the door latch after you approach the vehicle. It is also a good idea to remove the battery leads from the battery before servicing the tank. I live in FL so no too much static in the humid summer :)

    was just wondering year your is I have a 99 Chevy Silverado BC 1500 ls try to figure out if it has two wire harnesses on my fuel pump too

    • @mmercier9
      @mmercier9  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab. Should be similar to a '99 because I think '99 was the first year for this model.

      Call your local Chevy dealer give them your vin and ask if your truck was evap equipped or not, if it is, it will have the 2 wires.

    What are cap wires? No such thing as a cap on a truck. It's gotta be called something else. Cab?

    • @matthewmercier612
      @matthewmercier612 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +marblemaker117 The fiberglass cap on the truck has wires for the interior light and brake light. These run through the tail light cavity as installed on my truck.
