FUN FACTS: the end scene originally showed Aaliyah & Jet Li kissing. However test audiences were "uncomfortable" with that scene. So the scene was re-shot to the ending that's currently in the film
To answer your question, no, this isn't Jet Li's first American movie, his first American movie is 1998 Lethel Weapon 4 where he plays the main villian.
The issue at the opening scene, why they're all staring at him is simply cause he's an Asian dude in a Black Club. The whole movie is about Asian gang vs Black gang.

I use to watch this movie a lot when I was younger. It came out in 2000, and I didn't see it until 2001 when either my mom or my brother bought it on vhs and for some reason I watch it a lot. Later in the same year I see Jet Li's movie Kiss of the Dragon on dvd(which is a lot better than Romeo Must Die) and then in November 2001 I saw The One in the theater which I'm kind of conflicted with where at first I can't tell if it's a good movie or not. The One and Cradle 2 the Grave were the only Jet Li movies I saw in the theater.
@@sonh788 I probably should someday watch that again because I only seen it once. I do remember one part that made me cringe, where Anthony Anderson used himself as gay bait for this gay security guard, and the guard actually thought he is hot even though Anthony is fat. I'm a gay male and I'm annoyed by this myth that gay males are attracted to all males. I'm only attracted to good looking guys and I never felt attraction to a fat person. Although the movie came out in 2003 and there are movies that did gays much worst then that. It was just something I was a little annoyed by and I would call it more ignorant then homophobic but I won't hate the whole movie for it. No that is not the reason why I only saw the movie once I just never happened to get around to seeing it again. I'll try to watch it again because I remember being mildly entertained when I saw it in a theater back in 2003.
12:47 I heard once about a gang of thieves in the 1930s who'd steal a mans pants after taking all his money. That way if he tried to go to the police to say that he'd be robbed they'd more likely end up being arrested on public indecency charges for walking around with their pants off.
2023. Just watched this and it is filled w so much corniness, now level racism and stereotypes but somehow as an asian I still loved it . Aaliyah first acting job and she was just good . A natural. A product of its time . The early 2000s when Hollywood was just plain corny and cringe 😅😅
I just liked it because of Jet Li and Aaliyah I think this was one of his first movies in Hollywood. His first was I think lethal weapon 4. Yeah I know what you mean about some the lines in the movie 😭
14:15 Also clearly his favourite son out of the two - which adds to a level of the messed up about how he's being toxic parent to him, one minute saying that he did an honourable thing by taking a fall for the family like going to jail for something you didn't do isn't a HUGE thing, then mocking him for choosing to work for the police then acting like he abandoned his family because he'd been with the police.
D Chin, I suggest reacting to The Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002) if you haven’t seen it already. It is an instant favorite if you like animals like rhinos and elephants, and it shows why we must protect them from poachers. Have you seen it before?
@@dchinsee I'm not upset that you answered, but that question was really directed to Stephen that is why I replied to his comment. His talking about liking movies that have animals and poachers and it made me wonder if he ever heard of A Far Off Place which is a movie that has all that stuff.
The actor that plays, Kai, the last guy Jet Li fights at the end of the movie, because I was already a fan of the movie in the early 2000's, in 2003 I started watching this tv show called Black Sash and I notice one of the main leads is the same actor who plays Kai, but he isn't a villain like he plays a good guy on that show. Black Sash is this show that was on WB that is like a teenager show but also a martial arts show at the same time. I remember liking it back in 2003 but the show quickly got cancelled after a couple of episodes. I was kind of stupid in 2003 it's possible the show was bad.
This movie is dope. Aaliyah and Jet Li. Come on now. Oh and i saw your last video when folks were complaining about your videos. Treat em like a blank envelope. Don’t address em.

@@dchinsee watching an interracial kiss on the big screen
I would have loved to have seen a kiss between them.
Effing racists
That's a damn shame. Aaliyah did a fantastic job on the chemistry. Gone too soon.
Aaliyah played the role in this movie so well. At the scene when she cried about her brother, I literally cried with her.
The guy who played her brother was in the temptations movie

Yeah I meant like staring role but yeah you’re right I remember him in that movie with the Chinese Beeds 😭

His first movie in us was Dragon Fight (1989) with Stephen Chow. In San Fran.
The fight scenes are always super over exaggerated but I love it 😂👏🏻👏🏻
