The Purpose of Evangelization - Bishop Barron at the Good News Conference

- Friends, why do we bother to evangelize? In my keynote address at the Good News Conference, I share the two main reasons. The first is to save souls from Hell, both in the eternal and temporal sense, to free them from destructive patterns and bring them to healing through right praise. The second reason we evangelize is to let people know who their Lord is. We do this through living out the universal call to holiness, which includes a life committed to poverty, chastity, and obedience.

The evangelization of this great Bishop and pastor brought me back to the church and consequently to a deeper understanding of Christ. This was maybe the single best talk I've ever heard Bishop Barron give: summarizing the 4 great addictions of the world, the hell of "bad praise", the meaning of the cross, and the point and origins of evangelization. I wish every Catholic in the world could hear this and take it to heart.

Barron is on Fire! With this ! We have got to send our message to people who are different than us. Billy Graham was just one man - who led millions to Christ - Barron has the talent to do the same - just tone down the flaming vocablary - and BAM ! Can we imagine tens of thousand once again filling stadiums, to hear the very sacrament of the word ! Priest, Bishops, and Cardinals are going to have to get out in the public - there's a lot more to evangelism than just keeping the front door of the church unlocked !

Bishop Robert Barron gives among the best deliveries, using sound doctrine about chastity, sage advice about choosing one's army, buoyant with enthusiasm about the joy of the Gospels, without getting lost in the weeds and excesses of overly cautious scruples. This is worth a second replay. I recognize that the obedience story about going where we are sent is timely with reassignment season upon us. Dry Martinis aren't for everyone. His Excellence commands attention with coherence and rational conclusions, giving everyone good reason for exercising self examination. All praise to God in the highest for bringing to us the saving graces of God The Son and providing that The Holy Spirit, the life of God in the world, remains with us.

Boy, this is as never before! Bishop Baron lives the name of his ministry: Word on Fire! I know much better ones are still going to come tomorrow and other days because it is the Holy Spirit at work in him and not some human formulation that gets exhausted and dry. God bless you, Bishop! I've followed your homilies and youtube videos for 2 years now and I feel like a clueless, but happy, hamster running through the course of your evangelization.
Like you said, healing comes with a purpose, and i find myself healed of many self-inflicted wounds through the faith but now scared to work, serve others...
Even the THOUGHT of carrying my own cross to follow the Lord scares me but your homily brings me back to the point of the cross, which is simple obedience to God. which is easier said than done... :( haha thank you bishop barron always for showing me and countless others the way!

Hell is a place of eternal damnation, fire 🔥 burns there continuously. St. Augustin clearly explained what hell is and the type of people that go there and burn. Catholics should remember this

Additionally, we interiorize the Catholic Faith as we immerse ourselves "in the game," so to speak. By participating in daily Mass, praying The Rosary, The Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Lectio Divine, meditation at Eucharistic Adoration, daily reading the Divine Office. Thereby inundating ourselves with what the Catholic Church has commended to us and recommended. As well, what is she saying both at the pulpit in the churches, in the public spaces through social media, books, magazines, from professors in the Catholic Universities, through Her leaders, the consecrated priests, deacons, sisters, and all the way up to the Holy Father, our beloved Pope, His Holiness Pope Francis? As well, are we hearing what The Holy Spirit is writing on the hearts of the people of our professed faith? (Unless we would allow ourselves to presume that we might know all there is to know about our faith or to assume that we have a one and only channel through which The Holy Spirit teaches.) How do we keep our ear to the ground, grounded in Her Catechism, and attentive to where The Holy Spirit is moving today? In what way or ways are we ready to respond when called as informed Catholics, not only of the world's events and the culture's movements; yet, also the developments inspired in faith and hope and love, these grace-filled movements of our time shape our world, our culture, and ourselves and eventually our future?
There is nothing more profound than the reverence and joy of the Latin Mass. The families… the vocations… the Christ centered evangelization… give it a try sometime Bishop. Please don’t refer to us as rigid anymore. Maybe just rigidly in love with Christ. It has helped many get ‘out if hell ’ as you would put it!

Card. Martini was a great Bishop. He was very popular and he could have been easily elected Pope. In Milan we didn't have another Bishop as charismatic as Martini since he resigned.

Can a lapsed Christian lose salvation? Friends, who has more to lose in thinking you can't lose your eternal life, you or the devil prowling around like a crazed lion eager to devour gullible souls sprouting I am saved.". Why would such a serious warning be necessary if the 'saved" and never be unsaved?
The Greek word AN is used 1595 times in scripture in over 1400 verses. It is a conditional conjunction, translated either as IF or UNLESS (ergo, clearly we do have a choice and thus freewill. Ergo, we are not merely puppets of an unjust, capricious god). Here are a few of the 80 verses that confirm the premise:
Ezekiel 18:24
“But IF a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die."
John 2:24, : "So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father
1 Peter 4:18, : "And, 'IF it is difficult for the righteous person to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?

After people get saved , God wants them to get baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Pope Francis said to represent Jesus Christ but never to proselytize. Why? Isn’t it our primary mission?
In what context did his Holiness say this?
In both Spanish (I’m fluent in Spanish) and Portuguese the word “proselitismo” has a negative connotation that the word “evangelizacción” (“evangelicalização”) does not.
Let me give you one example with another pope. In the context (in 2007), during one of his visits to Brazil, pope Benedict XVI spoke to the Bishops in the “Catedral da Sé” in São Paulo city how they should correctly instruct the Catholic faithful so as to protect them from the tactics of the “Christian sects’ proselitism”, specially the Neopentecostal movement that is common here. Those where his very words (one can find the news in Portuguese on the Internet). He was referring to stealing Catholic flock from the Church through ignorance and sentimental offers of those groups.
I don’t really know the context of Pope Francis’ word, but he was probably arguing that, due to the bad connotation of the word “proselitismo” in Spanish, we must avoid overfocusing on number and focus on true conversions to the faith. That should be what true evangelization is all about, right?

Pope Francis also told Christian high school students they should respect people of other faiths and not attempt to convert them to Christianity, insisting “we are not living in the times of the crusades.”
@@elitisthavoc3949 That’s sad. Whenever he speaks on interviews it is one flop after the other. Still he has some deeper points, even on the floppy side, that we need to reflect upon. But of course, we need to pray a lot for our Holy Father and the confusion those sentences can cause. That’s the pope we have.

can explain to me why after Vatican 2 churches are empty, and people losing faith? Why so much good liturgy and churches are wrecked? Why never meet someone in church who evangelize? The innovation of Vatican 2 "peace be with you" we suppose to extend hand in peace and people so many, never do it to me but to their friends they do, so I think why? these people don't know me and Jesus come so sinners, so don't understand and that is in manty churches
