      Breathtaking is a very good way to describe it, yep!! Me too, Milford Sounds has been one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in the world let alone just the country. So glad you enjoyed, Jane!!

    For those watching, it may look stunning in the video but it is even more stunning in person! Yay cheeky little keas! Did you stop at any of the lakes along the road on the way back? If you get them at the right time they're like mirrors for all of those mountains 😍

      @donovankelly12  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for mentioning that, Olivia, you are so right. The camera does not do it justice, it is a must see.
      We did stop at a few lakes but unfortunately the wind had picked up so no glass like conditions but I can totally see what you mean!! Thank you for watching 😃

      Oh absolutely, you said it. We drove from Te Anau so the same final stretch. There’s a lot of amazing highways in New Zealand but that’s gotta be in the top 3!

      @@donovankelly12 I was very lucky to be a 'late surprise baby', lol, so I always went on South Island road trips with my parents at (extended) Easter holidays, then I took them around the North Island in my 20s when I lived in Wellington for a bit (only the 2nd time they'd taken a plane in their lives!). Love travelling abroad, but there's so much diversity in our landscape in such a small area that it's a shame most Kiwis don't see it. Going to struggle getting everything in that I want my partner to see when he's over for a month before we go back to Quebec (plus, we have to go via Cairns on the way back to visit my niece - a month's not enough! 😅). My list keeps getting longer!

      @donovankelly12  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahhh that’s how you do it haha be the surprise child… that’s really cool! Yeah Brittany and I keep talking about how difficult it would be to see all there is to see on a quick few weeks or 1 month vacation, it really does make me understand why so many people go for the camper cans because there’s a lot of driving to each spot!!

    Well done. Watch out for those keas, they will have have everything off your car just for fun. I used to live in Arthur's Pass and the keas would walk right into our cabin if the door was open and they would open the fridge and raid everything. Such intelligent birds. Cheers.

    Question time South Island, or North Island do you prefer or both?

    • @donovankelly12
      @donovankelly12  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the question, Bailey! I love both. I grew up beside the Canadian Rockies so the mountains are very homey but places like Cape Reinga, Bay of Islands, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, etc. are so mesmerizing to me. I’ll take the easy out and say both 😁

      when my parents came to visit me and we toured both islands (at that point I didn't know I was going to be living in NZ for 12 years!) my mother summed up the islands this way ... while the North Island has beautiful green scenery, the South Island has exotic things to see - Moeraki Boulders, Pancake Rocks, the glaciers, etc.

    Was very fortunate about 6 years when I took a cruise there. On the way back in from the Tasman Sea we had 3 dolphins following on the wake of the ship only a few metres from the stern popping in and out of the water for a few minutes. And when you pop out of the Homer Tunnel into the western side is just an awesome view… wow hahaha

      @@lucasNZL thank you, Lucas. There are a lot of spots that are very similar to British Columbia and Alberta that we’ve noticed throughout both main islands and though I have not been to the East Coast of Canada, I could see a lot of similar features based on what I’ve seen from photos. The climate, a good amount of the landscape, volcanoes, and Māori history are what I find very unique.
