Ed thank you! Still to this day when someone asks me where I learned to sight read I tell them about your band and the hundreds of songs in your book. It was a real privilege getting to play with you guys and especially at a young age, really helped me improve.
You realize you are probably one of the few people who can actually do this... I’ve had the pleasure of going to Berklee School of Music, and not even the professors could do what you do. What a legend you are.
@@gil-evens this is easily the hardest saxophone solo of all time. To say it is not extremely difficult is like saying that anyone can paint like pollock and van Gogh.
@@havenwestcott3189 Not the hardest at all. Improvising through the changes may be difficult but the solo in itself is pretty melodic. I already seen people scatting the solo.
Holy moly! Dude! You need more views! People don't realize how complex this song is! Especially jazz isn't really popular nowadays! But the way you played it with such a rich and beautiful sound, totally proves that you could end up being a legend! Like Coltrane!!
The most amazing thing about this, is the tone similarities its the same very bright tone that coltrane had, and it sounds just too alike and its impressive!
*Ron Burgundy Voice* “DON’T ACT LIKE YOU’RE NOT IMPRESSED!” Wow. This is hands down one of the most amazing performances I have ever witnessed. I played this at my dead dog’s funeral and he started barking again. 🐕 🔥
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, I am a musician and experienced in various genre…..jazz being my favorite; I was 5 yrs old when Coltrane passed…..but man Cut my teeth….listening to Coltrane….sir.
@@reynaldomadridi7238 I am a jazz musician as well, and as both of us are jazz musicians, we know that it is harder to improvise, than to sight read it. I just don't think that you can say that this man is on par with john coltrane by him playing something through practicing and reading, when john made this up off the top of his head.
@@lukakomadina6470 I concur…..I have observed the technical & classically trained musician marvel at the gifted legends of the likes of Coltrane…..who off straight improvising and feel/vibe be able to play tune that are standards to this day and time. My favorite jazz song. Recreating what someone else did vs. being the one that heard it, wrote it, and played it isn’t fair. This song resonates all this many years says it all. Enjoy it!
Hey dawg you killed that shit. I sold my reference 36 almost 10 years ago and it is by far the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life. I gotta get another horn ASAP.
This is excellent. A "good" sight-reader and/or classically trained performer can manage this well from the actual transcribed solo found in the 'Trane Solo Book - although not with the same emotions and phrasings as John himself. A number of "scat" vocalists has made wonderful duplications of this solo - and those of others - with accuracy and precision second-to-none. On soprano RECORDER, Benoit Sauve is the master duplicator - with all the Oganic Jazz nuances. Great performance, champ; keep on doing your thing saxophonically! Lohvissimo!

literally perfect! sounds almost like someone added a chorus effect to the original sax track
Probably the room echo
@@Thaligamathor nah its just that he's playing alongside the original giving it that doubled effect

Faut pas exagérer tout de même
Seriously ? The solo doesn't seem extremely difficult, pretty melodic actually. But since you went to Berklee I believe we should trust you
@@gil-evens About half the people in the Jazz Studies division at UNT can run Giant Steps. Those guys are insane.
