Thanks. This really helped me with understanding basic combat. I was a bit loss before watching this. I was told that I shouldn't pick up GURPs as someone who is just starting to get into TTRPGs, but I just couldn't resist. The modularity of GURPs is just too good to pass up on. I'm hoping I can adapt to the basic principles before moving onto more advance and crunchy mechanics.

Solitude102 That is awesome. I introduced a lot of people to RPGs with GURPS, so there is no standing arguments there, but people like to preach for what they know. I'm glad this video helped you in learning the game. Have fun.

Savage worlds is a great option for a lighter RPG system that it still versatile.

You forgot the ×2 wounding modifier for impaling (p. B379).

I decided not to cover damage type for this basic example. Thank you for pointing that out.

Hi! This is a useful video, I see some people reference GURPS as too complicated but this video shows that the basic combat flow isn't bad, and hey if I want to add more I can with GURPS.

I'm glad you found it useful. GURPS really has that toolkit DIY approach which is amazing when you think about it. Have fun!

Ah yes gurps combat! The most brutal one if you take in all the rules for wounding. Have fun losing limbs.

My martial artist in a play-by-post game I've been playing for several years had a failure on an unarmed parry against a broadsword recently -- it cost him a hand (fortunately, we were able to win the fight none the less and found a healer priest who was willing and able to cast Restoration -- but it went a little wrong, and now his left hand matches that of the priest (who is emphatically not human).

How is combat turns established? Initiative like in DND?

You either compare Basic Speed (fastest goes first) or you roll 1d. The first option is considered more "realistic" (whatever that means) and is most used, but individual GM can use the other method.

initiative is the base speed but if this parameter is the same for two or more characters, then let them throw d6, a very individual process in any case

I'm not sure if you've answered this before; but where can I get some combat templates like the one shown here?

Just goes to show that a well-twirled mustache is still no match for well-flexed muscles.
    Sorry hipsters....
