Stuff like this makes me appreciate the amount of knowledge QBs have to have. In pre-game, knowing the coverages and knowing the spots and knowing coverage beaters. In pre-snap, seeing their alignment and making an educated guess. In post-snap, if the safeties rotate and the cover 2 shell becomes cover 3, or they lined up in cover 5 and then dropped into cover 2. Seeing the adjustments made on Four Verts to beat coverages based upon not just knowledge of football but also picking up opponent's tendencies (which, I guess, you'd have that before the game in the NFL in the form of film study). It's a lot to process. I've been playing Madden since '17, and every year I feel like I'm getting better than the year before, but the better I get, the more I realize.. jeez, there's a WHOLE lot more to learn. I FINALLY started experimenting with RPOs and Read-Option in '24 and it's been... uh... well, it's been a learning experience. Also, slowly getting better at not just doing levels and flood the entire game and doing half-field reads all game off bootlegs. But, still, the amount of information processed after hiking the ball is just.. it fries my brain.. and that's staring down the field, trying to remember what beats what coverage, and just as a receiver is breaking open and I hit the "Y" button, got sacked, 'cause I didn't realize the nickel blitzed. Content like this might actually bring me my first W against a friend who beats me every year in every Madden, lmao. ... petition to send this video to the Eagles OC and have them run Four Verts (with adjustments) every play, lmao.
This was awesome. As someone who loves football and madden but still has a harder time reading defenses. I also really liked the part where you said “As long as you have a plan pre-snap you’ll start throwing less picks becuase you’re not just dropping back trying to find things randomly, looking at the whole field” Probably the best advice I’ve gotten.
@@KurtBenkertThat is true unfortunately some coaches want you to see the field and make the play which is so much more difficult. That kills the development
@@bellzo5gonna gas up Matt LaFleur for a bit but he did a brilliant job with Love the back half of this year. Gave him plenty of plays with 1 read only to make his life easy but let him read the whole field when he was in rhythm.

These videos are super educational! I would love to see a future video played in real-time with an eye tracker, to kind of get a perspective of what a QB reads as he first gets under center, and then going through the progressions and also the pocket awareness for both good and bad plays 🙏
You doing videos like this is the biggest W any madden player could ask for. 99% of the time, its people just showing you the glitch plays or meta plays without really explaining it. Then we have you, someone who played at the highest level, could easily just sit back and watch everyone struggle but you don't, you actually teach us and explain what to look for in depth, and for that, I wish you nothing but the best and keep up the amazing work! Go pack go!
Imagine getting to be a backup qb (best job in the world, ask a coach) and then getting paid to make madden content that is elite. A true man of the people
Your inside knowledge of real life football to madden knowledge really is crazy ! You just made madden very easy especially if you think like a QB ! Keep these vids up bro 🔥
Broski! This is madden GOLD! If you can please make something like this for every passing concept! I’m learning more football now than I ever knew while I was playing 😂
So Kurt, I got a question. When you think you’re done playing football you think youll coach? I told a friend the other day I think you have a real chance to be a real good quality positional coach or something of the developmental nature right off the bat as a coach in your career. Like start out as a QBs coach then maybe hit a gig like Kellen Moore where you are coaching against guys in your draft class. Awesome video though these are super insightful and just different from a traditional break down video because its Madden!!!
Very well put man I saw no holes in your explanation but I would just add that there are several variations to this concept and the certain playbooks that cater to this playstyle. I personally like the Saints playbook or any vertical or spread offense.
This video definitely help me out, thanks man. I’m good at reading a defense but it’s just that, I have poor route combinations to attack them and then I get frustrated when no one gets open and boom then a unnecessary interception happens that could have been avoided. Good insight here
@ Kurt - 11:29 When you throw the back shoulder, how are you positioning the left thumb stick? Do you hold all the way to the right, down & right, down, etc.?
The LOB defense was definitely susceptible in the flat. The corners had to stay over the outside receivers despite being pressed and the OLB had 2 play the run, help the mlb in the middle and cover the flats.
Kurt we (average joes) love the fact of how down to earth you are.. so cool how you break down shit to gives us (average joes) a perspective from a pro!! Much love

Hey Kurt -- here's a question for you that I was curious for your feedback on: Lately I've been using an audible in trips four verts where I bring one of my outside receivers on a drag under the two inside verts. Usually he's got some nice space due to the verts carrying defenders away from his area. I'd love to hear whether or not you think this is something that would work IRL or is just me exploiting some AI stuff in Madden. Thanks for all you do to make the strategy aspects of football more accessible to the public.

this was the play i always used growing up on sega lol, but now i use basically the same thing but TE attack where the TE cuts across instead of the RB, the RB stays and blocks until I am open lol
I do like this kind of video where you break down coverages and show how they work and explain it. What would be great is how does this work against madden players who don’t run stock coverage and plays, it would be nice to see you try and explain how to pick up blitz’s of that calibre. Like Throne
You should make a collection of clips where the defender would never close on the ball that fast and send it to EA. That's a huge part of what's wrong with the game. But you slicing them up regardless 😂😂
I"m waiting for the video where the opponent who didnt realize he was playing checkers vs a chess master pops into the comments to say "thank you for the lesson"
This is the main issue with madden, receivers are just braindead and run their route regardless of the coverage (or my favorite, when a receiver has a designed choice between a short post and a short out, and they run the post when both the out or the curl would be wide open). It just makes coverages braindead, and it literally becomes a gimmick game. Let eating and awareness determine if a receiver makes the right read on the plays
