    I am so amazed at your patience, attention to detail, & just the fact that you are so generous with your knowledge.
    I am a newbie at this, have minimal control over pigment, water, tone, value...in other words, my attempts are jumbled & muddy! I have gone back, started through your tips..they are so well thought out, lead me to a slightly less confused, more focused composition.
    For all this, I thank you. You have enriched my understanding... Thank you

    I watch your videos and like the ones that are 3x best....but I did really enjoy this one on hydrangeas with a bit of both fast video and commentary....biggest reason was the explanation of the colors you were using....or combination of colors....as you went along. thank you for sharing your expertise.....I've learned a lot about letting watercolor do it's thing.

    Thank you Rick for your informative tutorials. I love your style! I like the combined format where you go at a normal pace, explaining your process, colors and techniques and speeding up through the repetitive detail work that needs no further instruction. Nothing is more frustrating to me than watching a 3x tutorial from beginning to end with no explanation or instruction. I also think it’s helpful to see your reference photo from time to time throughout the video and at the end. I’d also like to see your pallet and how you mix your colors, strength of pigment, etc. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks again!

    Thank you for your videos and explanations. I have started to use a squirt bottle to soften paint. I struggle with the negative painting. My dyslexic brain is slowly coming around to it. I have a small card on my desk, “don’t overwork it”. I did get the the tape from amazon too. Looking forward to your videos in 2018 also. At the end you talked about the various formats. From a learning standpoint I’m sure we all love the detailed videos but if we just ask for them we would loose the enjoyment of watching a painting. So I hope for a variety as time allows in your schedule, we appreciate all of them.

    Its wonderful Rick. I am glad you went back in with those darkest strokes around the focal point after the wash. I always consider those small dark injections your style. I am probably in the minority but I prefer the complete narration without music. I tend to stay more focused on what your working on. When the music starts and your moving faster my mind tends to wander off point.

    I find the narration very helpful. It helps to know what colors you are using and why. Also, it is very helpful to here why you are doing specific brushstrokes. I did a similar painting of your poinsettia painting using my own flower reference. It was a very successful painting. Thank you for your tracing videos. Looking forward to more in 2018.

    Thank you Rick.. I like this format but really appreciate your thought process as you work and as the painting progresses. I would also like a screen shot (thumbnail) of mixing your colors on your palette. Would also love to see your initial sketch and how much detail is/is not included from the reference photo.

    Your videos are very helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I like both formats but the real time with narrative are most helpful. I like hearing your thought and process and the reasons you give for each step.

  • @theamateurpoint8755
    @theamateurpoint8755 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like to see real time and narrated but in this case you did well by accelerating the part as you did. Your videos are awesome. And even though you make it look absolutely simple and intuitive I just know it is not. For example in this video, how the hell did you know where to put the darker tones to shape the leaves? Practice I think. But it is very very impressive.

    • @RickSurowiczWatercolor
      @RickSurowiczWatercolor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I try to narrate but there's times when it's pretty much the same process for a while and very repetitive. At the same time I don't want to not show it. That's when I speed up the clip for a short period. I don't do it often. I actually try to visualize a larger darker shape behind the other shape. From there I build layers of darker values.

    Love the narration and especially your comments on composition as you work. Please don't pull back on the narration if you combine the two presentation styles. Each format has its unique appeal. Thanks for the negative painting technique. I like this presentation but I also like the full narrative. That’s probably not very helpful (50/50) but either way it’s a wonderful tutorial. Happy New Year Rick from the beautiful and very snowy Canadian Rockies!

    Hi Rick. Wow! Impressive painting!
    For feedback: I liked this style of presentation.
    I have watched some videos, made by other presenters, where there is an option to push a button and it will move the viewer ahead (or back) in the video by 15 second increments. I find that option very useful when I am re-running the video while trying to paint along with the instructor. I have no idea why that option appears on some videos and not others-but maybe you know how to add that to your videos??
    You are an awesome artist and instructor. Thanks for taking our feedback.

      silvana rossi -It doesn’t show up on my screen. I guess that means it is something I need to figure out on my end to get this option. Weird that I have that option sometimes and not others on my iPhone.🙃

    Thank you. I really appreciate the narrative and how it shows your thought process. As a suggestion it would be helpful if you could have a small thumbnail or similar of the picture you are using for reference in the corner of your screen so we can see what you are aiming for with each stroke. I love your style and have subscribed hoping to learn more about your technique. Thank you from Uk. 😀

      I think he's got a photo that he shows in the beginning. It has a background that he left out, so he's improvising a lot of structure; he's making it up, basically. working from the thematic elements presented in one or two nice looking branches. I wish I could do that better!!
