More good ideas! and don't you worry about washing chicken.. I am 63 yo.. I grew up drinking out of mud puddles.. no lie.. I hardly EVER get sick. Obsessive cleanliness does not a strong immune system make. Yeah.. I know.. TONS of people will disagree.. that's okay.. you do you, and i'll do me. :)

When my kids grew up, my house was always a mess. I worked nine hours a day and my kids went to school and nothing ever seem to get done. My kids and i were very healthy. We hardly ever got sick. My friend was a compulsive house cleaner. She mopped her floors with a mild bleach solution probably daily. She washed her walls with bleach and basically her house was germ free. She and her kids were always sick. I think we humans were made to get out into the world and the dirt makes a much better immune system❤

Agreed. I was obsessively careful with my first born, everything got sanitized all the time....and he was sick all the time. My younger kids were hardly ever sick and I didn't obsess over dirt as much with them. After 4 kids (and several daycare kids In my home) you tend to learn to let these things go

I coat my chicken in Bisquick mix (add spices to mix), put on sprayed metal pan and bake for 35 mins on 425, turn over and put back into oven for 10 more min. Excellent crispy chicken/ Been oven frying this way for 50 years. Add baking potatoes and/or squash for great oven meal. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰

I’m really enjoying this series and that you aren’t using anything from the pantry. I would love to see you do a video on finding meat deals for the freezer. For instance, I got 10# bags of chicken quarters at Walmart for $4.72. There was 8 chicken quarters in each bag. I bought 4 bags & separated the thigh from the leg. I put 4 thighs in each bag & 6 legs in each bag (last bag got 8). For my family of 3, that's 13 bags of chicken for the freezer for under $20.

Got to share this super cheap casserole for a very limited budget. This feeds 4.
2 cups cooked rice, 1 can seasoned diced tomatoes, one can steak and potato ready to eat soup.
Place in an 8x8 greased pan in the order given. Cover and bake at 375 for 30 minutes. Uncover and increase heat to 425 for 15 minutes.
Delicious. Serve with canned green beans.

I need to make this for my grandbabies, it looks so tasty! Also, just an idea for a future meal or series: making melas from a conglomeration of the bits and bobs in your fridge. One of my children’s favorite meals was a concoction I made on the fly one night with a box of Jiffy corn bread mix, 2 hot dogs, a can of chili, and a partial bag of shredded cheese (it was all we had at the time.) I got requests to make this over and over again throughout the years.

I'm glad you stress having a pantry. I've been in financial distress for months. Now my car needs a repair I can't pay for so I'm just staying home and can't buy food. I'm rationing food to the max. If I had been able to build a pantry, I wouldn't be hungry now. (Fixed income, no family) So as Brooke says, if you can make a pantry, it's a good idea.

When I lived alone, I hit upon the idea of buying a family pack of chicken breasts. I took them home, put them all on a large cookie sheet and seasoned them with powdered lemon pepper seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder. Bake uncovered, eat one tonight for dinner with sides. Bag the remainder individually in freezer bags and freeze. Take out when home from work and thaw & reheat in microwave. Tastes just like fresh made! 😋
Each week I would buy a family pack of a different meat (pork chops, pork steak, etc).
After 4 weeks I had an assortment of meats already cooked and frozen to choose from for dinner each night. One week I would also buy ground beef in a family pack, take home and brown in skillet, freeze in individual portions the size I wanted for spaghetti, chili, tacos, etc.
When I had whatever meats I wanted, I started over at the beginning of the rotation, cooking and freezing.
When unexpected (or even expected) company came for dinner, I could thaw however many I needed of whatever meal I chose and there I had dinner. Just make sides. 👌👍
In just a short while it became a routine that was handy, versatile, and frugal.
And the great thing was I didn't have to worry about taking something out to thaw every morning for dinner that night!
Just a suggestion that anyone cooking for one might find helpful. Cook once, eat 6-10 meals. Saves money on utilities as well since you're using the oven less.

New subscriber here. Just wanted to say I appreciate these videos. I so enjoy when vloggers share videos from the perspective of having nothing to start with. So many have freezers full of meat and a pantry well stocked and pull from there. I have been where I had nothing to begin with and it sure changes your perspective when you have to buy the flour to coat the chicken and the oil to fry it in…etc. Keep them coming

Back in my day... eggs and potatos were the most affordable. My mama used to cube and fry taters.. then add a can of green beans.. then take like 6-8 eggs scarmbled in a bowl then added to the pan. Stir and cook til eggs are done.. the only seasonings she used was glorious salt and pepper... OMGOSH... it was SOOOO good. I still make it to this day❤😊

Brooke i feel your pain on the french fries i get sick everytime i need to buy french fries. I would make them myself from potatoes but potatoes are expensive too. You can't win in potato land.

I feel like for Make it to Payday situations people would very likely have pantry items like some seasonings, oil, etc. If you regularly make meals then you have something in your home. I used to be good insecure although I would never want to admit this to anyone. I remember very vividly digging through my pockets of my jackets to find $1 and change so I could go into dollar tree and get a can of sauce to make whatever I could find to put together for dinner that night. It's been a few years since my budget has been that way, but I used to worry all of the time about how to feed myself and my 2 kids until my next paycheck. I was a single Mom of 2.. for 15 years. I say that bc almost 2 years ago I got married to my husband. With both of our incomes (mostly his as he makes more than I do) we are now secure. Thank the Lord.

My parents were depression kids. I can remember my moms story about after she first got married she bought bologna and crackers from a market that she walked several blocks to a store she didn’t often use, because she was so embarrassed. From then on there was a pantry. She learned to can food and bake bread. Now my pantry and freezer are always pretty full because I’m always stocking up. I really enjoy your videos. They give me such great ideas
