I'm glad you've reached this point, ladies, to see this "metal" side of Nightwish music in its entirety. The emotions I read on your face are priceless, and they strengthen my belief that you will continue exploring this true musical universe. Yes, the theme of the song is familiar to many of us, unfortunately. We've all been hindered by something like this in our life, but the important thing is that we realized the situation, got up and moved on. The double vocal slide at the end is like a release from this trap.

Hi "Genaration Gap" great reaction from you guys, as you are new to Nightwish, you should know that our Queen Floor was diagnosed with breast cancer last month but has already had surgery and is on the mend, on 11/20/22 on Antwerp when she returned to the stage after the surgery she cried singing the song "Sleeping Sun" but little by little our Queen is recovering emotionally, a hug from Brazil.

Tuomas did try to sing when they first started but when he heard the recordings he said "that's enough of that". I think Tuomas is very, very happy to have Floor in the band. They toured with Floor's first band After Forever and I think Tuomas was amazed by her singing even back in the early 2000s. I really think he had Floor was at the top of the list when they fired their first singer Tarja. However, After Forever where really hitting the hit chart hard back in 2005 and he knew she probably wouldn't leave AF. You should check out some of the songs of After Forever. "Dreamflight" is a great one and Floor was amazing back then.

One of their heavier songs (a few go harder). They didn’t do this one all that often, but decided it fit for this Wacken festival. Floor just announced yesterday that her new solo album is coming out March 24. She has released 3 singles from it already. Fire, Storm, and Me Without You. You can find videos for each on TH-cam. I think both of you will really like her “poppier” solo stuff. For next Nightwish songs, maybe “start a little bit softer… with Ever Dream.” Enjoy!

Your vision of Tuomas was right. He is not the one who likes it to stay in the front.
He really likes to watch that his vision of the music happens as he wants it to happen.
His creativity is enormous. He is a great poet, musician, composer. It is his visions
how to make the whole show, the performance and almost everything we see when
the show goes on, the lights etc, 95 % of everything.

Great reaction ladies. One of their heaviest and Emppu gets to shred. Your observations about Tuomas are spot on. Nightwish is his baby and his reason to exist, especially in their earlier days of the band. That theme comes out in several songs including one of my favorites, Dead Boy's Poem. It is his love letter to his music and how he would want to be remembered if he were to pass. The live performance from Buenos Aries is stunning and deeply emotional. This is the only thing I can say about this song:
    Best. Banshee. Wail.
    EVER.
On another note, Nightwish, because of Tuomas, shows in every song part of the human experience -- and this isn't just hopes and dreams, but even anger and rage as well. Even depression. Every emotion a person can have, Tuomas has written music that shows a part of one, or more than one, of how emotions are mixed within each of us. This is why it seems as Nightwish makes us, the listener, feel the music, as much or more than, just listening to it.
And this is why Tuomas is the "Metal Mozart" of this generation -- because the only difference between symphonic metal and classical music is, classical music never had electricity! Lol

Each new song you discover will be different, and all, beloved by fans! Their songs stand the test of time. I do suggest diving into the bio/history that Gabriel sent you...bc you're going to get to the big opuses, which are parts of the band pathos...deep, dark...big and bigger! I saw them twice this year when they rolled through the Midwest. One of the things I caught in the second show being closer to the stage is how understatedly awesome Emppu is on lead guitar on top of the usual things: Tuomas' overall brilliance, Kai's maniacal yet structured drumming, Troy playing every obscure instrument known to man, Jukka settling in as the new bassist, and of course, Floor basically moving me to tears. The first time I saw Elan live just broke me... in a good way because it was everything I hoped and imagined it would be. That said, wait till you get to Shoemaker. And thanks for the reaction!

A 3 octave glissando at the end that Floor does in tandem with Marko. The studio version, from the Tarja era, only has his 2 octave slide.
Yep, the song is about a romance that has died. It's over, time to move on.

Here's the funny thing about Romanticide. You're right on the meaning of the song, as it is about a romance that has gone bad and is near the end. Interestingly enough, this song was written during the time that Tarja Turunen was the singer in the band. If I remember right, this was off of the last album that had her as the singer. And looking back at that time, with knowing what everyone knows now, it's almost foreboding, as there was a separation coming shortly after that album came out and that tour ended. You'll get to the history on that soon enough in your Nightwish journey.
As for loving this, I'm torn. Should we have you stay at Wacken Open Air, or send you to Buenos Aires? If you stay at Wacken, I'd suggest to react to Song of Myself. That will show you yet another side of Nightwish. If you go to Buenos Aires, I'd suggest reacting to I Want My Tears Back. That will introduce you to Troy, who is the 6th member of Nightwish, and yet another side of the band to hear. You can't go wrong either way!

One of their heavier songs. Love it. Great perceptions on the song and what's going on generally. Great insights on Tuomos and the chemistry. You got to hear Marko here, singing with Floor, but in one of his raspier styles. You might enjoy Everdream next, if you want to hear Marko with Floor in another style. I'd recommend it from this same Wacken 2013. I Want My Tears Back live from Buenos Aires might be another good one, for a different style. If you want to hear yet another style of Floor's voice, you could check out Yours is an Empty Hope live from Wembley. Another darker, heavier one, but with a surprise. Actually, all of those are good, but I'll go out on a limb - because of your comments on this video, I'll suggest Nemo, live from Wacken 2013. It is one of their radio songs, and not often requested to reactors, but I love that version of Nemo. Second half of it makes me emotional for some reason. Her performances on Beste Zangers a Dutch TV show is just incredible her covers of Shallow, and Phantom of the Opera will leave you speechless. And her solo concert in Amsterdam too! She is a once in a lifetime vocalist that is at the peak of her career!

Love your necklace mom! This is one of Nightwish' heaviest songs. This was a big metal show, so they had to play some of their heavier songs. Nightwish music is very diverse in style. Marko and Floor also do some very beautiful harmonies in some songs. Yes it is Too-ohmas. The genius behind the music and lyrics of Nightwish. He is so happy to hear how Floor has brought new life to the band and many of the older classic songs. Your comments about Tuomas' big smile is right on!

Ya'll have only scratched the surface of this great band. The planets aligned the night of wacken 2013! All songs in this gig are good! There's so many others, floor can growl, go full opera, and hit insane high notes. The whole band smiles, and at the of a concert, they stay on stage and give a bow.. Tuomas, the mastermind behind all this just smiles and knowing he created this...

  • @gsparkman
    @gsparkman ปีที่แล้ว +4

I've always thought that more than a few smiles from Tuomas and the other guys in the band that night were due to Floor's stellar performance. Floor had only been with the band for a few months, and was not yet an official member. This Wacken concert was a huge test, and I am sure that those grins I saw on Tuomas' face were from the certainty and relief in the knowledge that Nightwish now had, perhaps, their (THE?) best singer ever. Can you imagine being in the midst of a world tour with your band when your lead vocalist gets ill and cannot continue? To go from disaster and anxiety about the band's future, to then landing Floor, discovering her natural fit in the band and its music, and witnessing the fans' delight and acceptance of her at the prestigious Wacken Festival. Tuomas and whole band must have been on Cloud 9 that night. Grins all around.

Your reactions are becoming the highlight of my week! Such wide eyed wonder not knowing what the next song will sound like. Don't worry, the vast majority are family friendly without bad language
I think Mom will enjoy the next song 'Ever Dream' more, and it will really show you some of the power of Floor's vocals. I doubt that many big name mainstream female singers could match Floor singing 'Ever Dream'
It is a song where the singer is asking somebody "Do you ever dream of me?" 😃

Tuomas has such a gorgeous smile! I love how much care he gives the lyrics - all the internal rhymes ("leave me be and cease to tell me how to feel" etc), then the double pun of "till love do me part" based on the wedding vow but with the love/death and us/me changes bringing a different meaning to the word "part". And yes, so many other smart phrases ("O.D. of lies", "double-faced carnivore").
If you want a short break from the heavier stuff, try The Islander live at Tampere (which is just a bit further down Gabriel's list). You won't be disappointed...but then, I could say that about almost any Nightwish song!

This is definitely a personal favorite song and performance of mine.
Was really looking forward to this video reaction to this song.
As much as you two dove into it all in the discussion, you didn’t talk about epic duo vocal rise at the very end and just how high Floor went.
And then the fire going off with the beats of the drums.
    I loved that too.
You could have made an hour long video going on about this performance. LOL
And yes, you are pronouncing his name correctly.
I really enjoyed your thoughtful discussion of how you view Tuomas as during the performance. His live playing is critical of course. So he’s not exactly just hanging back.
He is providing the symphonic in the “symphonic” metal.
    He is fully engaged.
But yes, I understand what you mean. His generosity in giving the other band members spotlight to shine.
They are bringing his vision to life so beautifully.
And the joy you see in all their faces as they play.
Believe me, you’ll see Tuomas Holopainen take the spotlight and shine centerstage soon enough.
Still so many epic performances for you to discover.

Hi, ladies. Another wonderful reaction from the two of you. So much fun. Thank you for continuing to react to these Nightwish live performances. Nightwish is one of those rare bands whose live performances are even better than their studio productions. As @JamesAnderson commented, Tuomas avoids singing, but it is really funny that as Nightwish's 2022 World Tour is about to come to an end, Floor has been holding the microphone in front of Tuomas near the end of one of their songs (I'm thinking it is "Seven Days to the Wolves") and Tuomas actually sings a bit before shaking his head at such impertinence. They are still having so much fun, especially since Floor's successful recovery from her breast cancer surgery. Kai Hahto, Jukka's longtime friend and drumming mentor, came from Wintersun at Jukka's request to replace him on drums due to Jukka's crippling insomnia, is called the human metronome. Interestingly, Marko's replacement after his retirement for health reasons in 2021, is also from Wintersun. His name is Jukka Koskinen. Thanks again for such fun reactions to these Nightwish performances.

Emppu on his purple guitar, He tucks the pick in his hand, also tapping higher up the fretboard.
Marko singing with Floor, the sparring duet was amazing, along with that glissando, up and then down!
Tuomas, did you see him having a swig of Nightwish Red?
Yeah, this is what he lives for, his band enjoying each others company.

So, mmm, you DO like drummers with great stage presence??? Could you please check out THE WARNING? Three INCREDIBLY TALENTED YOUNG LADIES from Mexico. They are so powerful, Dani, guitar and lead vocalist is 22, she is so passionate and fierce I love the way she owns the song, she feels every word she sings. Pau (Pow) is 20 and has this amazing showmanship, can't take your eyes off of her! Explosive! And on top of that she sometimes takes lead on vocals, WHILE DRUMMING!!! And then, you have the Bassist, Ale. harmonies, has a beautiful voice too, the groove, is delightful. You will see how incredible she is when playing, HIPNOTIC, sometimes takes lead vocals if needed in case Dani needs a break! Just turned 18 (Dec 13th)!!!
Their music is written by them, the 3 of them learned how to play the piano and later their instrument cuz of a video game, they still play the instrument they used to play when they were little girls. However there are a few amazing covers by them. Their music videos are awesome, to me, seeing them play live is simply amazing, even on rehearsals they mean it... Check their first viral video, the one that showed the world their talent!!! Enter Sandman - Metallica cover, back in 2014, (They were 14, 12 and 9 at the time) that's how it all started... Now they are on Metallica's Blacklist Album. (2021) They are really inspiring.
I recommend Dust to Dust, live at Lunario, 2018 (while they were 13, 16 and 18... In for a treat... Promise!
