Even tho now I prefer the 1974 version because how gritty and realistic and feeling like a home video it is. When this came out in theaters, I was blown away from how good it was. This movie nails it in all aspects of of a great film. Comparing anything to this original or any other time a remake is made is what usually cause great debate. Remakes should honor the great film it proceeds but it has to balance that with being original on its own way. Fan service is important but you can't get lost in it otherwise you miss out on your interpretation of the film should be. I enjoyed the beginning as well but I wonder if they put that film first and this film 2nd, how much of a wider audience it would have reached? 👊🔥
I truly feel like Friday 2009 is slept on because it came at the end of the 2000s and suffered remake fatigue from audiences. My Bloody Valentine too came off the heels of remakes like Black Xmas, Prom Night, The Fog, House of Wax, etc. I loved seeing Jason run and my theatre gasped when the girl fell out of the burning sleeping bag like a hot pocket. This Jason wanted suffering.
Most people forget the hitch hiker had the baby that’s in the film which is how she was able to get the gun in there. Or just forget to connect the dots.
As soon as I saw that Andrew Bryniarski was playing Leatherface, back then, I was instantly "really, Zangief?" and was pleasantly surprised with his perfomance.
Better than the OG!!! Top 3 remake ever. Movie is terrific, Jason 2009 getting love at the start is something i like as well. That movie all time !!! Lol

Nostalgia blinds people. This is far superior to the original same goes for the Friday remake.. have you seen the Friday 13th films??? They fucking suck
I love this movie. The best horror remake and simply a damn good horror movie. This version of Leatherface was truly menacing and animalistic. R. Lee Ermey was great because he provided foreplay to the gruesomeness that would ensue further in the film. The cinematography was great and I love how grainy and gross and captured the heat like the original. Definitely, a summer jam.
The biggest plus to this movie and the prequel is that the main mask is Matt Bommers face. If your gonna use a face might as well get a great Handsome actors face lmao!
Nah. Come on. I love the remake but the original IS The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, all that followed are just shadows of it. The original for me is the scariest movie ever made, and it's a one-of-a-kind movie. It just feels real. The remake isn't scary, but i would say it's probably funner than the original. This movie was also smart for bringing back John Larroquette for the narration of beginning and end. When showing off the crime scene videos and evidence, his voice just absolutely fits for this film. The opening narration crawl at the start of the 1974 version is one of the best opening voice over reads in cinema history IMO. I don't believe thats a stretch at all... almost every TCM fan recognizes "the film which you are about to see.." I've read that TCM 22 brought him back for this.
Hell yes, John Larroquette was awesome especially the way they made it like he was narrating a true crime documentary about the events of the first film. Awesome
One of the best remakes ever and by far the best TCM. Leatherface was scary as hell in this one, the family was demented and the sheriff terrifying, everyone acted amazingly, and the cinematography of how gritty and yellowish/gross the movie felt perfect. OH and the score.

then-unknown John Larroquette provided the narration in the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Despite becoming a distinguished actor in the years since, he happily agreed to reprise his role for the remake. After learning about the remake, Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface) went up to producer Michael Bay at a Christmas party and personally asked him for the role. During the scene in the van with R. Lee Ermey (The Sheriff) and Jonathan Tucker (Morgan), Tucker forced the gun down his throat in order to make himself vomit every take. If you watch carefully you can see him spit the vomit out of his mouth in the scene. Erica Leerhsen screamed so loudly during her screen test that people in other parts of the building called the police to report that a woman was being attacked. While chasing Erin through the woods, Leatherface trips and cuts into his right leg with the chainsaw. An homage to the original The only time we actually get to see Leatherface's "real" face. To prepare for his role as Leatherface, Andrew Bryniarski ate a diet of brisket and white bread in order to get his weight to nearly 300 pounds. Erin's last name was supposed to be Hardesty, the same last name as lead character Sally (Marilyn Burns) from the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Pepper is the only one of the victims not to see or enter the Hewitt house. The song "Suffocate" by industrial metal band Motograter appears for few second during Kemper's death, when Leatherface starts to undress the Kemper's corpse. Some of the big plot changes made in the remake: 1. It is actually not mentioned only implied that the family is cannibalist. One of the symbols of the TCM movies was the big dinner scene where all the family tries to eat their victims. 2. The whole family has changed. Now there are 7 members of the family, plus famous "grandpa" from the first four movies is not included here. Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface) states: "In my estimation, Leatherface is like a beaten dog -- he was ostracized and ridiculed, and treated harshly by his peers. The psychological damage they inflicted was immense -- there's no chance for him." Terrence Evans (Uncle Monty), says, "I think there was a chance Thomas' life could have been different. Despite the title, only two people are seen being killed by a chainsaw. Andrew Bryniarski is the second tallest actor to play Leatherface after Dan Yeager at 6'5½. For years I thought the series was the dead. The Next Generations was the final nail in the coffin and the 2003 remake saved the series. Dude even Rambo 4 got the UNRATED treatment lol still to this day 2nd best rambo movie its jason in the jungle, Jay , Ebert was super critical of horror films I used to watch his and siskels show when I was a kid and honestly I agree with ya but also I think ebert just was against the remakes from the start he really only favored originals he trashed alot of sequels save for maybe empire strikes back and godfather 2 he's a good critic but I think he didn't like horror too much
I feel like the thing that I really enjoyed about the Texas chainsaw massacre remake the most was the character development for example Aaron I feel like she had the most development and the most to do. Plus they took everything from the original and expanding upon it. Like making the final girl Aaron much more resourceful where is Marilyn burns in the original her only purpose was to scream and run away from Leatherface. The family seems a lot more functional and less Batshit insane, and they even expanded upon leather face by turning him into more of an angry vengeful monster who was basically lashing out at a society that didn’t accept him because growing up he had a severe skin disease that was slowly eating away at his flash. It movie is just all and all how a remake is done like taking the original and expanding upon it.
Still not as good as the original though, just imagine if the original was filmed today with more gore and today's technology...The Remake has great cinematography but doesn't have the same tone, there's no creepiness or weirdness and the family members are boring and forgettable...It's just a typical fast pace action slasher, Leatherface is supposed to be a creepy and mentally challenged cooky child-like killer, not some non-human like roid raging body builder out of a comic book with a chainsaw...And the whole "Skin Disease" story was just stupid...The true essence of TCM just wasn't there, I get a more unsettled feeling watching the original, the Remake is actually over-rated in my opinion.
I agree, Friday the 13th 2009 is underrated.! I watch it probably once a week with the commentary y’all did w/ Katie. It’s my favorite video. 😂🙌🏼

Dude even Rambo 4 got the UNRATED treatment lol still to this day 2nd best rambo movie its jason in the jungle, Jay , Ebert was super critical of horror films I used to watch his and siskels show when I was a kid and honestly I agree with ya but also I think ebert just was against the remakes from the start he really only favored originals he trashed alot of sequels save for maybe empire strikes back and godfather 2 he's a good critic but I think he didn't like horror too much
The Michael Jackson nose comment - no it didn’t. Never happened. I love you J, but no.
Jessica Biel made me so sexually confused watching this movie for the 1st time at 13 yrs old 😅😅😅
It's TCM 1974 JAY not 73😅
74 dude
