Very Important: you can continually fight the axe knight where you find Edrick's armor by stepping on and off the trees. It's the best way to grind for a while.
The title is not misleading. While I also ASSUMED that this was a 5 minute speed run/glitch exploit video, we can't down-vote his hard work due to our misconceptions. Great tutorial.
Beating Dragon Warrior comes down to 12 mandatory accomplishments: 1. Purchase and maintain a supply of magic keys 2. Find stones of sunlight 3. Find silver harp 4. Swap silver harp for staff of rain 5. Find and rescue princess 6. Purchase silver shield 7. Find Erdricks Armor 8. Find Erdricks Token 9. Obtain rainbow drop 10. Use rainbow drop to create bridge to Dragon Lord's castle 11. Learn spell of Healmore 12. Find Erdricks Sword
You don't need the sword or armour, I believe. I doubt it, but I bet some hardcore dude has likely beaten the game without healmore (not me lol). I don't think you need the princess at least others say you don't.
Watching this makes me extremely proud of myself for figuring out and beating this all by myself at the age of 9. What a feeling when I finally finished it!!!
Me too.. same with zelda.. ninja turtles was my nemesis, i could never get past some sewer level. I seem to remember the game always glitched out or something.
Nope, nope nope, buy the club first and fight slimes until you have 70gp (10 more) then buy the leather armor!!!! Do not waste your money on the clothes
I wouldnt suggest buying the magic armor, its very expensive and by the time you can buy the magic armor with all that grinding you'd probly be strong enough to just take out the armor guy who has edrick's armor in the abandoned town at least thats what I do. Just put that guy to sleep and wail on em! I actually beat him at a very low level once when i was a kid just out of mostly luck because he was sleep for like 8 turns lol , and I just run from the monsters. In these type of games I used to love to just explore way beyond where I was suppose to go and just run from the monsters . Back when everything was so new and refreshing
IDK about the flame sword as I've never bought it. from the last description it sounds useless. I don't regret getting the magic armor though. It's super useful.
I always get the flame sword, never the magic armor, I agree that it's pretty easy to just beat the axe knight if you've leveled properly and get Erdrick's armor for free.. On the other hand I was a player that never ran unless I had the orange screen of death and was trying to make it to a town (or castle Tantagel), so for me trying to go get Erdrick's sword right away wasn't worth it and the flame sword isn't bad, it was often actually the broadsword that I skipped buying.
@@adamavery3906 Says something that even a simple RPG like DW allows players chocies like that. Espicially since DW progression both levelling and equipment wise is rather linear. Just like, for me, I barely if ever use the fire based spells while I've seen others swear by them. L0L
@@volourn9764 Old comment but the ending is pretty much identical just without the princess being there. You just save the world, speak to the king and then leave alone.
Probably aided by the fact that there really aren't that many places to go to or things to interact with. Once you're at a high enough level to survive the tougher monsters you can pretty much brute force your way through the game.
Rescue the princess & game over? Well you could leave her there till after you slay the dragon lord, & go back to the king with her in your arms. (Or never bother rescuing her at all.)
Ok guys it takes a LITTLE longer than 5 minutes to beat the game but nice video anyways! This was my first RPG and have loved the whole series of them ever since
As many others, I read the title wrong and was expecting a glitch to beat the game in less than 5 minutes. This video is actually much more useful. I'm currently playing the game in Japanese, and my Kanji reading skills are weak at best. Very helpful video. It's funny how before I clicked on the video it was listed as "5:01" minutes, and when watching the video it's "4:59". Lives up to the claim.
It says less than 5 minutes, my guessing would be that he needed to explain he meant a less than 5 minutes whole explanation, because certainly the game would take longer than that to beat.
this was the greatest game ever for me when it first came out. i even drew my own maps and wrote down everything while playing it. i remember it being such a pain the ass to get the dragonlord took me a while to finally say yes when getting there to see what he says. it would be kinda cool to see them remake this game with todays graphics but same story line and items so i could bust out my original maps
As an affluent Alefgard scholar with 2 Ph. D.'s in the history of Erdrick's descendants who is fluent in Tantegel Greek, I concur with Dr. L's methods. This is hands down the most efficient path to the eliminating the dragon lord and his minions thus acquiring the ball of light. The only thing I would add as a tip for finding Edricks sword, if you're unfortunate enough to encounter a red dragon or armored knight on this step, stopspell as a first move is appropriate in most cases, it gets pretty unforgiving when a red dragon puts you to sleep in level 18. This of course does not apply to your final journey to confront the dragon lord. Use good judgement when running from enemies, this point should be stressed.
Dragon Warrior 1 was the first RPG game I ever played. I got it for free with Nintendo Power subscription back in the late 80s. I didn't even know what an console RPG game was. So when I bought it, I didn't understand why there was no action. Why was I walking around, and the screen kept changing into this other screen with pitcture of monsters that I had to kill and then change back to "world map". Why when my character moved on top of a little picture of "castle" I was suddenly transported into a new place. I entered a town but that concept was foreign to me. Then when I exited, I was back in world map. And no matter which side I exited, I always ended up back in same world map. I was so confused. I kept thinking, "Ok. So this is some weird preliminary thing before the REAL game begins." I kept waiting for the REAL fight to start not realizing that when I pressed fight and the HP for monsters went down, this WAS the fight. It took me a while to understand that this is how a turn based JRPG works. LOL

Spent so many hours playing this game one summer as a kid. Finally, after a whole summer, I beat it. Me and a friend had to figure most of the stuff he's talking about on our own.
Ok I was hoping for a 5 minute speed run.
+truerubberlegs I think we all were.

I was too because I was wondering how on earth you could possibly do that
Yea I saw the title and I was like, Oh no way lol when it he started rambling I was like ok I was right LOL
It’s fucking clickbait, ugh 😑
Keep grinding.
I don't wanna.

Lotsa grinding in DW1

I died at "BUT THOU MUST". Love it. Hadn't played the game in years and this refresher course was just what I needed.
Don’t forget to also…Git Gud
buying clothes and a club actually slows you down. You can punch slimes naked and buy yourself a copper sword in the first 5-10 minutes
I loved this game as a child, I remember getting it with a copy of Nintendo Power when i was like 11 years old.
Same. As soon as I read about the giveaway I was bugging my parents to opt in. I think I still have the pocket sized strategy guide that went with it.
haha so many people got this free for getting 6-12 months of Nintendo power eh? me @ 9 WTF is an RGP? i don t wanna play it ,..but thou must!
That’s the only reason I got that game. Ended up playing it for countless hours.

You know dragon warrior bears a striking resemblance to dragon quest, huh.
I cannot tell you how proud of myself I was upon beating a metal slime.
It takes that long to kill a slime.
I am very disappointed that I didn't learn how to beat the game in 5 minutes. Instead, I learned how to beat the game, in 5 minutes.
Got this game when it came out. It's the first RPG I completed. This game started my love affair for RPGs.
The title is misleading, but thou must find this satisfying.
A final, "But Thou Must" at the very end would've made it EPIC.
i mean the titl.. isnt really wrong,... it was i who made it misleading. but indeed it was explained in 5 minutes to save time. i approve.
The clothes are extremely optional. I usually skip both the leather armor _and_ the clothes, going straight from naked to chain mail.
how nice is it to have my child hood summed up in a little over 5 minute video...

It takes five minutes just to travel around the land, forget the battles.

Playing the game for the first time right now. Best tutorial of it that I have seen.
