Yeah, 95% of reddit stories you see are so clearly not only fake, but so many of them are written by AI. I don’t even understand why anymore. It’s not like with TH-camrs where there’s financial incentives, nor are they even good for “trolling” or anything similar. How bored does someone have to be to resort to this in their spare time?
@amypetty5013 😅 I think we're all just saying that, generally, just reposting stuff that he has specifically chosen to put behind a paywall can be disrespectful. Doesn't seem to be the case here though
Apparently the co-founder of Honey is the founder of Pie which has been going crazy on the youtube ads lately, so if you have I'd recommend removing it 👍
Honey was basically stealing money from creators. But every adblock also prevents creators from earning money. So if you truly care about the creators you watch, you shouldn't have adblock in the first place
@@IsaacHND Pie does the same thing Brave does, it gives you the option to reinject their own ads in place of the regular ads, and you get a tiny cut. Probably also like Brave, in slme worthless crypto coin that costs them nothing to give you, they get 100% profit from their ad in place of TH-cam's regular ad split between the platform and creator.
Mark did have an Only Fans, don't know if he still does... but from what I heard people liked that, even Charlie said he bought some of Mark's Only Fans.
Thank you for the upload, helps a lot since I'm not a member. But be careful, Mark's fans are very protective of Mark's content, they'll mass report this video. (Edit: someone already posted it on the subreddit asking people to mass report the video)
You say that like it's perfectly ok to upload paywalled content...? I mean I'm grateful too, but it's obviously not some sort of saintlike thing to do.
@@fahrenheit2101 it’s not saint-like, no, but since this is merely a small clip of the actual product, and considering the importance of said clip, I’d say it’s fine enough to stay. Mass reporting it would be an overreaction to a mild crime.
@@Leonagraphy well, one person cannot "mass report" something. it's hard to call something an overreaction if there's no single entity doing the overreacting. it's just a lot of people doing regular reacting. also, "small clip" is debatable i'm not too fussed either way, mind, I just don't think it's all too nuts for someone to see this as wrong.
I so agree with Mark on YT shorts. I never downloaded TikTok, never used it, but when I get through some shorts, I found quite a few new creators to watch.
I don't think people fully realise how much money they have been making. They don't just take youtuber's commissions... they take commission on EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE made from anyone with the app installed. Even when no one referred you.
Kinda funny how a casual gamer used his common sense to determine something was fishy meanwhile so called tech expert channels like mkbhd, mrehosetheboss, ltt ( for several years) didn't even use their common sense or even question it
ltt eventually caught on but then they went and partnered with another coupon extension that does the exact same thing, which makes it worse imo bc they fell for the same scam twice
That's the thing. Mark actually bothers to look into his sponsors. He has an actual ethical code... Mark often feels he does not deserve the fame he has. He does. His moral compass is made of gold. He just doesnt waver from the truth in his mind. I subbed to him back in EARLY TH-cam. And guess what? Nothing will ever change. He is legit, my only hope of moral TH-cam media content. Never sell out Mark.
The thing I'm curious about is the point about Honey replacing affiliate cookies with their own cookies so they get credited for the sale. So that part has been established. But I'm thinking, what about for consumers who didn't click on affiliate links? They just go to a website, go through the purchase, checkout but because they have Honey installed - they click on it to see if there are coupons etc. I'm assuming that even though there is no affiliate cookie to replace - Honey would just insert their one anyway. Meaning they're getting credited for every online purchase a person makes - affiliate link or not. Which would explain how they were able to market as aggressively as they were as well as pay for advertising as much as they did.
I did a class in college where we talked about cookies, and I think that's a pretty fair guess. If there's code to overwrite/change a cookie, but the cookie doesn't exist on the computer, then it will add a new cookie instead.
The affiliate payments are given likely cus those ppl have partnered with honey. The “payment” would be cus honey and the vendor gets to choose which coupons they reward. This way they convince ppl to pay a certain amount since they won’t find a better coupon to save them more money. And knowing they got a “good deal”, it would convince them they should buy.

They released a bunch of full videos on the Distractible TH-cam channel just a few days ago! I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen them yet, super fun and goofy topics that remind me of some of the old times^^
This is just another one of the many reasons why Mark is one of the greatest creators on the platform. He is such a good dude who speaks things like it is and has never felt like anything more than a goofy guy living out his dreams with us along the way.
Man I’ve only ever watched “old” Mark, all fast-paced let’s plays with such wacky humor, but listening to him talk more analytically like this might be the move now
I never knew that Markiplier had members only streams so that’s cool. I’ve also realized that he and I I have very different experiences with shorts and tiktoks. My shorts are all pirated movies and tv shows; meanwhile, my tiktoks are usually cute animals and memes
I feel that Mark is gonna be incredibly correct about Bsky. I prefer it to any other social media right now but it will almost certainly get worse. And if it gets super bad I don't think I will jump to another ship again. I'd rather just stay in my own corner where I have fun.

Just click subscriptions if you want to only see videos posted by people you follow. I don't know why more people don't do this. The home page is only good for finding something random to watch if the main channels you follow haven't posted anything you're interested in on the subs page. I even take it a step further, I purposely tell YT to NOT recommend channels I follow because I find it annoying that they are putting stuff in my face that I can already easily see on the subs page. I want the home page to always have new channels I haven't watched before. It is the way to do it trust me
@@Erzy- I've actually done this. But people on my subscriptions must be shadow banned, because a lot of the times I don't SEE what my subs uploaded unless I go to their page.
The reason that this was able to go on for so long is because how low key all youtubers try to be about their sponsorships. The stuff about commission referrals is stuff they try not to make clear to their audience that it's happening. It's stuff they didn't really want the average user to know about, naturally they wanted to steer people away from noticing that stuff. I hope that this all leads to a situation where influencers and advertisers are a little more open about where they make THEIR money, so the public at large can see and call this stuff out sooner, long before it's turned into billions of dollars of stolen wealth.
Obviously it varies but I always hear youtubers talk about their affiliate links. It's just a way to get the audience to support the creator so everyone is okay with sending the commission to the youtuber.
Watching the stuff about BlueSky was hard. He was talking about how "Companies are gonna Company" which is true, except these platforms are decentralized. Meaning it's impossible for one entity being enshitified where it ruins the whole thing. Mastadon is the alternative, which isn't a company at all, it's just an open source project. The move shouldn't be to another privately owned and operated closed source system, but rather a decentralized open option where if one company decides to do something shitty, moving is easier than ever.
Man, for years people have been saying "affiliate links don't make big money," but the whole time, the whales that actually would give them money were just getting poached...
I have the same view toward Crypto Where does the money come from? That shit can’t just materialise digitally, because that’s not how money works, so there has to be *something* going on behind the scenes
@bobjoneswof But what exactly is that value, and how does it translate into money (which is the entire point)? Ya can't just create it from nothing, as money - even digitally - has a physical counterpart that helps determine the currency's worth
@Cheri_Blast money is valued because it can be used across a nation, and people want it, and companies want it. Crypto can be used not only in one nation, but all, which is why 1 bitcoin is worth more than 30,000. The value of bitcoin and other crypto currencies does not materialize out of nowhere, it comes from investments, and how much most people are willing to pay. TL;DR: crypto is money that is valued by most countries, which adds to its value.
Crypto is a currency. Its like asking why a dollar bill is worth a dollar. Bitcoin for example, is a reward for blockchain calculations (mining) people tade it for stuff, but its limited. Bitcoin has a cap of 21.000.000, and these are payed out as a reward as new bitcoin, there are currently 19mil in circulation, thats why the price goes up. And thats why bitcoin is so stable, and why meme coins dont work because the creator normally owns like 90% of it so they can dump it. Simply put, crypto is an agreed uppon currently, like a dollar, that is used for trading
i didn't realize he spoke so insightfully in these members only streams. Honestly mark could write beautiful literature that could serve to help many humans on the earth.
I didn't trust Honey either. I remember downloading it once because conceptually it was a good idea but then at some point Shane Dawson started talking about it and somehow that tipped me off to something being wrong. At the time I wasn't sure how to articulate what, but I deleted it and haven't used it since.
Gotta say, I am quite proud of myself for looking into honey before installing it back then, not finding ANYTHING about how they make money, and saying fuck that and not installing it. Vindication!
the second half of this has nothing to do with honey but i totally agree that quitting any social media or not following pointless drama baits is the best thing you can do.
Okay Mark, I need lotto numbers holy cow. He's right about BlueSky. It's a breath of fresh air from current social media, but only because it's new. There's been some sus and not cool stuff the owners are doing that's making some of the people I follow getting ready to jump bluesky, after they jumped off the twitter ship, like couple months ago.
I had honey in the beginning cuz I thought it was just a scraper, then like a year after starting to use it it just stopped ever applying literally anything. Wild that it was intentional and malicious.
I have pretty good instincts/discernment. Mark has always been my favorite online influencer. When his instincts matched mine, when he voiced them better than I could. What he said in that video years ago matched my instincts. It kept me from downloading Honey. Mark gets all the points in my book! He is the big winner of scam detecting!
I mean, tumblr has its merits for sure, fun fandoms and inclusive spaces, but it’s also one of the best sites to go when you want to be told to go kill yourself over something entirely benign
The honey content aside, I appreciate the rest of the video. This should've been on the podcast or not make it members only. More people needs to see this.
Fr, I refused to let my sister do Christmas shopping with my card (I let her pick gifts she wants and then I pay within a select limit) on her laptop cause she used honey and refused to turn it off. I wasn't expecting this exact sort of scam, I just get iffed out by any extension or service that deals with purchases in any capacity. Like for all I knew I could download Honey expecting deals but in actuality there's background stuff going on where it's snatching my card numbers and improperly storing them for some nefarious actor to find and steal in a breach (or god forbid it's taking money from me directly as a company). Didn't help that both my sister and my mom are the only two people in the house using honey who have suspiciously both had major breaches with their cards. It's even weirder cause my mom copped it the most while my sister had it happen once. Doesn't seem weird until I say my sister is broke and rarely ever gets to make purchases, while my mother would likely be a very active user since she buys a lot. Not saying Honey did it specifically but I always just found it weird because this stuff never happened in the house until Honey entered it.

12:48 Bleusky is a public benefit non profit. Also their network protocol is opensource. That means if Blue Sky goes the OpenAI route of becoming for profit and shit, then you can just make red sky or green sky or whatever and still have access to the protocol and network. Similar to how there are a million email providers. If yahoo mail is crap you can switch to gmail
@toxiclunch So are a bunch of projects. Linux for example is free and it is the back bone of most servers on the planet. Android is free. Chromium Browser is free. What you shouldn't trust is free money. (Like honey)
Being such an avid YT viewer for ages, this was so nuts to hear. This thing has been around for YEARS! I watch videos pretty widely across TH-cam and I've seen sponsorships for it all over the damn place, in so many niches, big huge TH-camrs, small ones, in between, it's fucked! Good on Mark for smelling bullshit, I'm sure others did too, as a consumer of content I don't claim to have smelled it, because I fully didn't, but in hindsight it did sound a bit too good to be true. Like Mark said, "where did their money come from?" Either way I never downloaded it myself, but holy shit y'all.
mark couldn't have been more correct about reddit, most posts are either reposts, reposts bots (including comment stealing bots) or posts upvoted by bots. there would be times where a post on r/antimeme would have 2k upvotes and the top comment would have 20
Mark touches on BlueSky a bit here too and I think he misunderstands why people are interested in it vs Twitter. People aren't generally excited about BlueSky as a company, rather what makes it tick. It's (semi)decentralized, which means that ideally down the line, if BlueSky turns bad for one reason or another, you can just hop to another instance without losing your followers, posts etc. Atproto is (at least in theory) Mastodon Lite, in that it's (again, in theory) a bit more user friendly. It's also worth noting that BlueSky isn't publicly traded. As a rule of thumb, if you don't need to continuously please stock investors you have no reason to maximize profits, just the seed funding you already received. So, if they can stay happy and healthy on subscriptions and donations (and I don't doubt that), I think it's in good hands. But yeah, doesn't hurt to be a bit skeptical either way.
that's literally what i said when I first saw a honey sponsorship, i believe it's in a Michael Reeves video, my reaction was "how do they get the money for the coupons?" "do they increase the product posting price and give fake coupons and they keep the difference for themselves?" because the coupons they show is incredibly big, it's unbelievable
Nevermind, I thought it was from a game but I just remembered it's a song I used in a random project in high school. Can't believe I even remembered that lol
Love it that instead of the usual, "oh it's nothing guys, I mean, if you think about it..." response, Mark went full, "I KNEW IT! FUCKING CALLED IT!" route.
The difference between bluesky and previous social media is that a) you actually have much more granular control over the algorithm and what you see, meaning it's not entirely built to just feed you shit to keep you on the platform/when things get worse you can filter it out and b) it's open source and built on an open source protocol, meaning you aren't locked into the platform and can transfer your followers etc to another place. Those two things alone already pretty much prevent the possibilty of enshittification of the platform which is why I'm a lot more hopeful about bsky
The DAY before the video came out I was like "hey, i wonder what happened to honey" because I'd watched so many videos about scams. I felt like i was psychic lol
So people who haven't promoted honey BUT use referal links have been hurt by Honey cause some people might've used the extention while using their referal links... wow.
From a developer stand point, that's actually pretty clever. Likewise, also incredibly easy to track. Shouldve hashed the affiliate links to make it less noticeable whenever they did the cookie swaps. That said since the affiliate is just sent as as get request i guess hashing it would've been more complex but still just as difficult. I'm not very web developer savvy but it sounds like the laziest scam ever lol. That creator knew people didn't understand the internet enough 😅. Free 4 billion and they did almost nothing.
I was eating eating some Doritos at the start of the video and at 0:21 i noticed the notifications and started choking on the Doritos from the shock of so kany notifications.
the Social media takes are Spot on, as someone who's never gotten into it, i think they're all going to end up going the same route as all the other places, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and even places like Twitch, Kick, and Rumble to a lesser extent are all the same platforms (or at least the same structures) with a different mask. I.E. the people on Bsky saying "it's SOOOO much better here than on Twitter, or Twitter saying "At least we don't have the same echo-chamber nonsense as the other places" when it's all the same shit 99% of the time. "Enshitification" was spot on.

@@amypetty5013you're right, it's technically not ok it's just that nobody cares since markiplier will be completely fine.
@@GameboiXD2457 even he himself would be okay with this XD
Who cares, Mark is rich he won't miss the money.
@@IsaacHND Honey's far more malicious, and far less open about it. But yeah, you ain't wrong.
I haven't had youtube ads in a while because I bought red. What's pie?
@@dannyg.4421another adblock. No reason to use it in a world where ublock exists, just ignore it.
@@IsaacHND Pie does the same thing Brave does, it gives you the option to reinject their own ads in place of the regular ads, and you get a tiny cut. Probably also like Brave, in slme worthless crypto coin that costs them nothing to give you, they get 100% profit from their ad in place of TH-cam's regular ad split between the platform and creator.
i didn’t know markiplier had members only streams like this, kinda a good way to advertise it because now i want more lmao
Mark did have an Only Fans, don't know if he still does... but from what I heard people liked that, even Charlie said he bought some of Mark's Only Fans.
In case anybody wondering, he reveals his suspision towards honey in the "i survived 2019" stream.

Thank you for the upload, helps a lot since I'm not a member.
But be careful, Mark's fans are very protective of Mark's content, they'll mass report this video.
(Edit: someone already posted it on the subreddit asking people to mass report the video)
not when its important info~ (speaking for me personally)
You say that like it's perfectly ok to upload paywalled content...?
I mean I'm grateful too, but it's obviously not some sort of saintlike thing to do.
@@fahrenheit2101 it’s not saint-like, no, but since this is merely a small clip of the actual product, and considering the importance of said clip, I’d say it’s fine enough to stay. Mass reporting it would be an overreaction to a mild crime.
@@Leonagraphy well, one person cannot "mass report" something. it's hard to call something an overreaction if there's no single entity doing the overreacting.
it's just a lot of people doing regular reacting.
also, "small clip" is debatable
i'm not too fussed either way, mind, I just don't think it's all too nuts for someone to see this as wrong.
Mass reporting does nothing, it will be most likely not take action or slow interview.
Kinda funny how a casual gamer used his common sense to determine something was fishy meanwhile so called tech expert channels like mkbhd, mrehosetheboss, ltt ( for several years) didn't even use their common sense or even question it
I mean markie is a pretty smart guy he has an engineering degree and stuff too
ltt eventually caught on but then they went and partnered with another coupon extension that does the exact same thing, which makes it worse imo bc they fell for the same scam twice

@@wolfsongrising but for a channel called Linus TECH Tips fell for it twice...
in fairness dude, it was a sneaky freaking scam lmao

That's the thing. Mark actually bothers to look into his sponsors. He has an actual ethical code... Mark often feels he does not deserve the fame he has. He does. His moral compass is made of gold. He just doesnt waver from the truth in his mind.
I subbed to him back in EARLY TH-cam. And guess what? Nothing will ever change. He is legit, my only hope of moral TH-cam media content.
Never sell out Mark.
some do sellout but its not as much as you think :/
I think they literally do that lol
This is so cozy. I forgot how cozy just listening to Mark talk about stuff is. Makes me wanna become a member to see more, but I don't have the money to spare. I'll have to start watching Distractible again, I forgot how much I loved that stuff.
A majority of it is on TH-cam now :)
i enjoyed it, but had to stop as there were WAAAAAAAAAAAY too many ads, like i would be fine with an Ad or two, but it's like damn Cable how many ads there are, AND I HAVE PREMIUM!!!!
They released a bunch of full videos on the Distractible TH-cam channel just a few days ago! I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen them yet, super fun and goofy topics that remind me of some of the old times^^
@@SomeOrdinaryJanitor Funny how free youtube mods provide better adblock and more quality of life features then TH-cam premium nowadays. Revanced FTW
Man, truly, mark said it was big brain time
Mark is no oracle, he just has common sense. Just listen to the social media bit.
And good instincts
This is just another one of the many reasons why Mark is one of the greatest creators on the platform. He is such a good dude who speaks things like it is and has never felt like anything more than a goofy guy living out his dreams with us along the way.
Someone once said "aged like mead".
Aged like honey lol
He was right all along, crazy! Huge W Mark
More and more people are using Bsky, so of course if going to turn out worse on regards of people being stupid and stuff.
i was invited to it about a year and a half ago and i saw seeing what were essentially neo-n's i can't say the word but i was baffled that they were on there and deleted my account since there were just So many of them. i saw nothing except toxicity on there worse then other places.
As someone who has a bsky account, my feed is all about politics and yeah it’s not fun 😅
@@vanerey30 I've managed to avoid too much politics. I follow a bit of David Pakman and get some Palestine stuff there but that's all. Hopefully I can keep it that way because I want more horror, movie and writing stuff there.
My problem with it rn is the amount of bot followers i get on a daily basis and it's annoying
14:00 Feels like it happens on YT's algorithm too. I'll keep refreshing my feed and get new channels I've never heard of, but any old channels I follow with new content (or even old content) will not pop up. It gets annoying, it gets tiring having to tediously search for things that I want passively just to get things they THINK I want.
yeah. no offense to the little guy, but i'm tired of opening youtube and seeing shit like "LETS PLAY: Goldeneye 007" (102 views) type junk. thats not what i go in for so idk why i'm getting it recommended to me now

If the company was bought for 4 billion dollars it means that they've made more than that so far, for sure.
2019 revenue was 200M. I highly doubt they made over 2B in revenue for the lifetime of the company.
Evaluations aren’t revenue. Profitable companies get bought for far more than they’ve actually made, because you’re buying all future profits.
The best thing that came from the events is that it reminded me markaplier is still on TH-cam because ngl TH-cam just stopped recommending him to me
VINDICATED!
@@ChucksSEADnDEADI'm pretty sure they legally have to be disclosed, that's why people mention it so much nowadays.
From my experience, ttrpg TH-cam channels tend to be more open about what affiliate links do and the nature of their sponsorships
I have the same view toward Crypto
Where does the money come from? That shit can’t just materialise digitally, because that’s not how money works, so there has to be *something* going on behind the scenes
well that's technically just numbers not certainly money. maybe money deletion :))
Crypto has value for the same reason money has value, supply and demand.
Mark just knows
i didn't realize he spoke so insightfully in these members only streams. Honestly mark could write beautiful literature that could serve to help many humans on the earth.
Mark has a pretty neutral accent despite him growing up in Cincinnati and then he says Coupon like Que-Pawn instead of Coo-Pawn
another W from markiplier
I didn't trust Honey either. I remember downloading it once because conceptually it was a good idea but then at some point Shane Dawson started talking about it and somehow that tipped me off to something being wrong. At the time I wasn't sure how to articulate what, but I deleted it and haven't used it since.
mark literally did his own meme, it's big brain time
Gotta say, I am quite proud of myself for looking into honey before installing it back then, not finding ANYTHING about how they make money, and saying fuck that and not installing it.
"That's why he's the MVP, that's why he's THE GOAT, THE GOAT"
I have pretty good instincts/discernment. Mark has always been my favorite online influencer. When his instincts matched mine, when he voiced them better than I could. What he said in that video years ago matched my instincts. It kept me from downloading Honey.
Mark gets all the points in my book! He is the big winner of scam detecting!
Funny that while speaking about how bad social medias are he didn't mention Tumblr. This is actually because Tumblr is fucking awesome
so long as you block photomatt
I mean, tumblr has its merits for sure, fun fandoms and inclusive spaces, but it’s also one of the best sites to go when you want to be told to go kill yourself over something entirely benign
Absolutely baffling that search and tags is still broken. I have a blog I'd like to check old posts on but everything is broken.
The honey content aside, I appreciate the rest of the video. This should've been on the podcast or not make it members only. More people needs to see this.
He's not only the king of FNAF, he's the king of foresight
I literally think everyone who has ever just heard of Honey, or even downloaded it, AT LEAST THOUGHT "this seems like a bit shady, is this safe?"
Fr
He's one of the only popular Gs not affected by the "minor curse"
I swear the world is gonna collapse if Markiplier gets caught up in something controversial
I think for the most part, all of the og youtubers who have spouses, mostly married, some not, are the ones who avoid the “minor curse” lmao
14:00 My realization of this is when I start hearing just absurd stories from my family's TikTok and after thinking that's stupid I saw mirror of myself in them and immediately just stopped seeing those subreddits. Cats still good though.

12:48 Bleusky is a public benefit non profit. Also their network protocol is opensource.
That means if Blue Sky goes the OpenAI route of becoming for profit and shit, then you can just make red sky or green sky or whatever and still have access to the protocol and network.

@toxiclunch So are a bunch of projects. Linux for example is free and it is the back bone of most servers on the planet. Android is free. Chromium Browser is free.

Like Mark said, "where did their money come from?"
Either way I never downloaded it myself, but holy shit y'all.
mark couldn't have been more correct about reddit, most posts are either reposts, reposts bots (including comment stealing bots) or posts upvoted by bots. there would be times where a post on r/antimeme would have 2k upvotes and the top comment would have 20
Mark touches on BlueSky a bit here too and I think he misunderstands why people are interested in it vs Twitter.

"do they increase the product posting price and give fake coupons and they keep the difference for themselves?" because the coupons they show is incredibly big, it's unbelievable

Now this is the real two steps ahead
The problem is that these companies can change how they do things overtime. I certainly hope you’re right though and that open source is enough
All we need now is a t-shirt that says "Markiplier was right"
The DAY before the video came out I was like "hey, i wonder what happened to honey" because I'd watched so many videos about scams. I felt like i was psychic lol
paypal buying it for so much should have already been a huuuuge red flag
So people who haven't promoted honey BUT use referal links have been hurt by Honey cause some people might've used the extention while using their referal links... wow.
I believe him on the aita shit because some of those stories are so specific and indentifiable that being anonymous is basically worthless
for a moment when i saw the video screenshot i tought it was Lord Farquaad
Markiplier being like that Conspiracy theorist that was proven 100% right.
Except he had a good reason to be paranoic about it.
I'm very glad mark knew it was a scam and never took the deal. It's good to see my suspicions be confirmed as well. We knew it all along.
Hopefully this gets youtubers to actually do some research before getting sponsors.
The notifications bro, that's insane 💀
