I just put new rear shock absorbers on my '02 Sport Trac this past Sunday. Every time I'd pound on the lower mount bolt to get it out, there was just a shower of rust from the upper tube as it essentially disintegrated about halfway up. No bueno.😄
There's so much room under the vehicle to work under without jacking it up I remember replacing transmission on one of those Back in the day All I had to do is jack up one side Of the van But of course Is rusty van from wisconsin These bands did not last long Here in wisconsin
Gonna be sleeping diagonal, 5'11" and slept in my extended cab silverado for 3-4 months, man it was rough. But the sound of the rain on the cab, and the money I saved.
There are actual van clubs out there where members meet up and camp out. I've seen some pretty awesome, decked out vans on those. I love it when nice wheels and exhaust are put on those vans, with antennas for tv, CB radios, etc. are put on them in a decent way. I don't own a full-sized van any longer due to age and poor fuel mileage, but I enjoyed the ones that I owned. You could break down and just sleep in the van until help arrived if you had to. The only downfall is driving them in winter weather, but carrying a set of chains or snow socks would be most helpful, or even a bucket of barn lime for traction if you start to spin out.

That bed is pretty legit. Cant wait to see the next part of the build. Maybe you should build a cabinet and have one of them dometic fridges inside it so you can just rock with that and not have to worry about ice anymore??
@@gtp2nv I was thinking one of them roof vent fan things would help him out with his ventilation problem he was saying but then again you gotta cut a hole in that badass van to install one so probably not.
@@91Bronco Yea.... I wouldn't want to destroy the roof on that van for one of those. Solar panels would be doable without destroying the roof. If I was to put one of those Max Air fans on the roof.... I'd go full blown AC. Especially if I had to cut holes through the roof in the process.
As a Chevy/GM guy.... I couldn't agree more. I'm willing to bet that Mike is going to use the truck this winter. So he's probably planning to fix the valve train soon. And store the van for the winter. He made a comment about garage kept... So that would be my assumption. I'm sure he wants to keep such a beautiful van rust free.
Wow holy man that looks awesome. The storage under the bed would be incredible to add long storage boxes to put ur pots/pans even propane stove and looks long enough for a fishing rod storage 😊😊😊😊

im am lovin your van. i like how you are keeping things simple. that bed set up is perfect. a more expensive build probably would not have afforded you all that nice storage space and your design could be removed very easily.

However, two years later I'm still sleeping on the camp cot. It's so darn comfortable. Large long plastic bins slide easily from underneath and hold tons of food, cooking gear and other necessities. You did such a great job on the bed I feel you may like it and not build another one. The secret to enjoying van life is to keep it simple (KISS principle) and uncluttered.

Love the set up. You need to invest on an Eco Flow Wave2. Especially with this crazy hot weather. I think the exhaust house would work perfect for those small side windows that slide. But killer awesome van man. Glad you have one that’s in pristine condition like that.

Take a look at a moisture barrier between the mattress and the plywood, something that will let airflow keep things dry.

Should definitely put some kind of padding on the ends of the bed so it doesn’t rub into the sides over time. Maybe some black pool noodles. 👍🏽✌🏽
