  • AirAsia airlines is a budget airline offering a cheap no frills service. This video shows a standard short haul flight on board AirAsia airlines. We travelled from Don Mueang airport in Bangkok to Phitsanulok airport - both in Thailand. See how we found our journey with them in the video.

    Airline travel is far safer than travelling by road or rail so I don't have an issue with flying. Just think it is wise to make a considered decision when choosing an airline. Thanks for exchanging thoughts. I enjoyed our discussion. Have a great day.

    This the kind of information I have come to rely on from you and some of the more experienced travelers who view your videos and comment.

      Thanks for commenting, Will. You are right that watching the video is really only half the story. Subscribers to this channel always provide some quality comments that add more information to the story.

    back in my backpacking days a few years ago, I'd book AirAsia all the time since it was so cheap. however Don Mueang < Suwarnabhumi

      Hello Bookshelf, thanks for commenting. I also prefer Suvarnabhumi airport over Don Mueang.

    Don't expect anything complimentary, everything cost extra including a checked bag or water, so if you plan on wanting food and water, a soda or need to check a bag, another airline is a good option as those extra fees quickly add up.....also make sure to delete the insurance option that always seems to be added on my ticket purchase with AirAsia when booking online

      Thanks for the added information, Longhorns. You are right that AirAsia is very much a standard low cost airline that those of us who use such airlines as easyjet and ryanair in Europe are very familiar with. Compared with those low cost airlines I still think AirAsia provide extra value as their air hostesses seem less stressed and more polite.

      I can only speak for myself but I wouldn't worry about flying with Airasia again. I respect the comments of other subscribers, but even if Airasia is marginally less safe than other airlines (which is by no means an undisputed fact) I would still fly with them as I think overall flying is safe - much safer than other forms of travel.

      I know some people criticise them. I haven't yet had a bad experience with them. You have to pay for extras, but if you are just on a flight of less than 1 hour I don't really think you need any extras.

      Okay is as good as it gets with Air Asia Colin. If you value your life I'd avoid them. Malaysian air safety is a real worry. Look at Malaysian Airlines and the fatal crash with Air Asia Indonesia. Once I had a flight delayed on the tarmac with them because as the captain said, 'They had to reboot their computer'. This is not just anecdotal. Air Asia is rated online lower for safety than Jetstar who I now use. Mind you Jetstar has currently stranded me in Singapore due to a cancelled flight yesterday. You can't win with budget airlines apparently. They have put me up in a **** hotel. I doubt Air Asia would do the same.

    Did you book the ticket in advance from home or in Thailand itself? Do they accept boarding with QR code from your phone?

      Hello Dirk, We booked the tickets in the UK via some budget online agency - think it was called BudgetAir.I frankly don't know if they accept boarding with the QR code from your phone. Sorry for that.

      It is very easy to book with them on their website or mobile app. I use them quite offten and usually book seats with extra legroom. I find them be very good.

      Thank you for contributing your view - it balances things out a bit as some others have more negative experiences.

    I rather go by TukTuk than Air Asia even if the onboard staff if polite and service minded. I almost missed a flight with them because of 3 Kg overweight. I had to go a long way to pay more than the ticket it self on fee for those 3 Kg. When me and my wifea few weeks ago traveled with another low cost airline Thai Smile, I had 15 Kg overweight. I Paid less than 500 Bath and the check in personell got it done for me with no questien asked.

      Hello Svein Arne. Your story is something I can totally relate to. Such pettiness and disregard for customers would also infuriate me. I have never experienced it with AirAsia, but I have certainly experienced it with Easyjet in Europe. Some of these low cost airlines have such tight profit margins that they will penalise their staff if they make mistakes. The staff will then choose to err on the side of caution and play hardball with customers because they fear getting on the wrong side of management. That is just my take on that. Now that I know that AirAsia act like this I will be more hesitant about booking with them in future. Cheers.

    I don't care that much how nice the staff are, I care moore about airline safety. That's why I now fly Jetstar who I might add are far from perfect. You get what you pay for with budget carriers. I like your videos but please don't be afraid to make a critical comment. We obviously don't have the same experiences with this airline. The longer you fly with a carrier the more chance you'll have a negative experience. I just want to present the facts, no axe to grind.

      Hello Doug and thanks for contributing your experience. I am not afraid to make a critical comment, but to be honest I haven't seen much to criticise in my experience of them. I don't know any more about airline safety than the next person. I suppose I do what most people do and trust the regulatory bodies to do their job. Getting onto any plane is risking your life to some extent.
      I think I have flown with AirAsia about 6 or 7 times in Thailand over the past 10 years or so. You are right that if I flew with them more regularly I would probably have a negative experience. So far I haven't but please don't see that as an endorsement of the airline. I only contribute my limited experience and how I felt about that.

    • @dougm3037
      @dougm3037 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough. You've had good experiences with them, I understand that and you can only talk from your own experiences. I wouldn't blindly trust regulators to look out for you. Remember Malaysian Airlines were allowed to fly over war torn Ukraine before the fatal crash there simply because it was cheaper. I do questi Malaysian safety standards with good cause IMO.

    • @Eatsleepbangkok
      @Eatsleepbangkok  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You make a good valid point. Safety should be paramount. The reason I don't delve too deeply into it is because I would end up getting suspicious of all the airlines. I can imagine that an airline with a tight profit margin will be more likely to cut corners. On the other hand these airlines also know that one crash can doom their business. Malaysian Airlines suffered greatly after the 2 crashes they experienced. Anyways, I am not defending AirAsia. Anyone who reads these comments should heed your warning and advice. Cheers.
