I had over 80 Hoyas at one point, about 10 years ago. All of them I grew from single cuttings. Then I moved to a house with very little natural light, and lost most of them. The hardier ones survived, and I eventually got plant lights…but consider the future with these plants. Most look great as young plants - but they do not age well. They get huge, and heavy, and just aren’t as pretty as when they are young. I have an obovata that is so heavy it breaks every hanging pot I’ve put it in. I’ve had to pot up every two years. I don’t think they make hanging pots big enough for the next one it will need. I’m going to have to put it in a floor pot and let it climb up a wall trellis. So, yeah, consider the future when getting that cute, pretty little hoya….someday you are going to need a huge greenhouse.
My Hoyas were not giving me anything, for years, so I moved one to the bathroom in the windowsill and it’s tripled in size in a month. Then I moved all 6 of my Hoyas in there and they are thriving!!!! Thankful I finally found their happy place 🥰🤩
I have to say, not actually having seen your variegated Hoya compacta for a while, it's actually grown quite a bit! I was kind of shocked!😂 Keep it up! You can do it little guy!🤞🤞❤️

Fern, I'm also a hoya head and have had my ups and downs with some. Most of my hoya are grown on plant shelves and rotted under the cheap Amazon grow lights. I then bought the barrina grow lights on Amazon that so many people recommend and they are a life savior. My tall hoyas are under pendant lights and the bulb used are the Phillips grow light bought at Walmart. It's a heavy bulb but work really well.
I want to thank you for showing us and explaining the care of your Hoya plants. Never knew that there are so many. I am amazed at all your plants and knowing all the names of each plant. Keep up the good work, your videos have a lot of knowledge/ information that would inspire anyone to grow different plants. Your inspiration to grow. Thank you
Thank you for sharing. When I started growing hoyas, some were doing nothing for so long. And I knew little about their care and problems. It was recommended that I buy a microscope and search for flat mites. They are the #1 reason hoyas do not push new growth or lose peduncles. So, I treated them for flat mites (there are many options, including benefitials), and in no time, plants exploded with new leaves and looked so good. Plyneura, even with silver leaves, are pretty fast growers. Good luck!
Your first Hoya looks to be in much too large of a pot. The leaves will grow once the roots have filled out the pot. I put my new hoya cuttings in modified plastic shot glasses or 1” or less pots until I get at least one new leaf and then size up the pot very slightly. Hope this helps!
Love your Hoya collection, Fern. It is so beautiful to see someone like you that has been a long time plantuber and is not influenced by “must have’s” (you know what I mean) 😊
I started noticing my Hoyas blooming much more when I remember to spray them with orchid spray 😅 also, your polyneura is how my obovata was. It took two entire years to do anything at all but I’m so glad I kept it because it took offfffff. 💚
you have such an amazing Hoya collection thank you for sharing with us! i love the fun facts/ tips you add in along the way. i actually got into houseplants via Hoyas - i worked for a local plant influencer's online shop packing up plants; she would let me keep broken pieces to "rescue" lol + most of my planty rescues were Hoyas bc we sold a lot of them, so they are special to me! don't give up on your variegated Compactas, they are looking cute + healthy, they just seem to grow at a snail's pace
Have you ever looked at your hoya under a magnifying glass? Hoya tend to suffer from flat mites which are invisible to the naked eye. They are known to stunt growth because they like chomping on new growth points. Might be worth looking into for the ones that don't seem to grow.
I’m one of those rare plant lovers that isn’t Hoya crazed but you and your babes make me want more. Thanks, Fern! 😂 Btw, you look soooo pretty ❤ loving your hair these days 🔥
Hi Fern, your Hoya collection is AWESOME! The Chicken Farm is at the top of my MUST HAVE HOYA list!! Thank you for highlighting your beautiful collection!! ❤❤❤🧡🧡🧡
Hi Fern. WOW!!! What an amazing collection of Hoyas!!!! I have a Carnosa and Obivata. Both are very slow growers inside, but the moment I put them outside for a summer vacation, they took off. Fresh air and natural UV must be what they need. They were positioned in a North-East position (South-East Northern hemisphere) and sun stressed beautifully. I must compliment you on your top. Orange/red really suits you.😊🪴
I LOVE putting my hoyas outside for the summer!! As long as it's in dappled shade, it definitely prefers it out there (for me). Every time it rains, they seem to sprout a new leaf or two... Also, I don't have to deal with the drippy blooms indoors!
Edit: what I have discovered with my Hoyas - some of them grow better in my greenhouse (it is one of those clear plastic covered ones in a SW sliding door window in our kitchen which gets really warm)and then when they don’t grow well like the others, I move them to under my grow lights. I’ve had a few that started growing after switching them to different light locations. I love the long videos! I look forward to your videos here and on your other channel, every week. Thank you lady 🫶🖤 Also, I love hoya. I almost want to get rid of all my other plants except my hoyas and my African violets 😅
Fern, I don't know how I haven't discovered you until a few weeks ago, but I've binge-watched you so far :D. You showcasing your Hoyas has made me order some myself. I absolutely love looking at them!
I have the hoya kerrii albomarginata and I keep it successfully on a south-west windowsill, so it gets direct sun all afternoon, even now, during the summer. I noticed it likes the summer heat. I have it growing in a chunky mix and water it as soon as it dries out almost completely, which is every other day in summer. I did acclimate it to high light before putting it in the sunny windowsill.
Hey girl, I rescued some rough looking polyneura plants from a clearance section in May. I reported them and put them in a south facing window to recover. And boy….that plant is my pride and joy now. It’s so fun and loving life.
Both of my fish tail hoyas 🧜 have grown a lot. I think you should try to plant it deeper so it can cover joint. That works for my hoyas it helps. I got my two leaf and now I have a massive plant and I have been propagating it.
Fern!! You really should try adding Great White Mychorrizae to your Hoyas. All of mine that were stagnant grow now and are blooming more often. I use it on all of my plants but it definitely helps my Hoyas!
I wish. I looked it up in my country, and I'm assuming it's a reasonable price in the US? But in Canada it's listed on Amazon for $327 for a 32oz container. That's, like just under $300us I believe. My country makes no sense sometimes.
Hoyas by far are my favorite plants so you can imagine how thrilled I was when I saw that your entire video was going to be on Hoyas. First, I must say that orange is your color. You look absolutely gorgeous in orange. Now back to the Hoyas. I love them so much. I also have a huge collection. I mostly have them outside in my covered patio year round being that I live in South Florida. I have Chicken Farm and Undulata on my wishlist. Your Chicken Farm is gorgeous. I’ve had two Linearis that I have killed after over aggressive treatment for mealies. Yours is so beautiful. I may give it another try in the future. Loved all your Hoya content in this video. Would love to see more 😊
I’ve found that it’s so much easier to sun-stress Hoya by putting them super close to a grow light. The actual sun isn’t strong enough in my home to do it so i just shove it right underneath a grow light!
On sunstress: my sunrise definitely reddened more in the winter than summer, in the same south-facing window spot. It’s now directly under a grow light and already sun stressing again. Loved the video! Definitely added a couple to my wish list! 😍
THIS is the video I've been waiting for!! That window showcases a trailing plant beautifully. Would love to see more up there! I recently saw a video on trellising Hoya. For your bigger leafed ones especially, you can wind it around any which way, but keep the newest growth pointing upwards, as it's looking to climb. Looking forward to an all Hoya repot! 🤌
I really loved seeing your hoya! I had over 100 different species, but I'm slowly downsizing. I'm actually gravitating to plain green instead of the variegated ones. Like Polyneura and Bella for example. And I'm appreciating the common ones more also
You neeeeeeed a hoya burmanica! Its hands down my favorite. Super easy, prolific bloomer with creamy yellow bella-like blooms, easy to propagate. Reminds me of hoya bella but with slightly bigger leaves.
I finally broke down last winter and bought a long trailing variegated compacta with 5 or 6 vines and I added my small ones to it so I have a nice full pot finally. I think had been super under-watering my first one and it’s fine roots would always dry up. This one’s doing amazing now. Wishing you luck!
So happy to have such a long video to watch today! Literally every plant TH-camr that I watch has been posting about hoyas in the past week, and it’s been me going “oh no not another Hoya video” .. but I’m actually really really excited to watch yours! You have such a cool collection :) Edit * I LOVE your whole look in this video!! The makeup, hair, outfit, SO CUTE!! 🥰
Great video! I love these collection videos. I watched this while repotting some of my Hoya. Incrassata and the variegated kerrii definitely rank lower on my list but I do love them all. And my "basic" Krimson Queen is going to be up there in my top 10. Compacta was my number 2 (I made my list while watching yours), too.
I got a polyneura broget recently as a rehab and i put it in PON in a window, and spray it with orchid spray every other day. It has grown a LOT in a month! Honestly all my pon Hoya are exploding in regular room conditions :). If kept in soil mix, my hoya seem to grow quickly when watered far more often than you’d think to. For obovata, i have had the best luck getting consistent leaf shape and growth when they’re in high humidity in leca or pon. In soil, i notice even slight watering inconsistencies make the leaves wonky.
Your Mathilde has grown so beautifully. I bought one after seeing yours but she died. She came with another hoya that had some sort of disease. I will get another.
Hiya Fern I bought a 2 leaf Macrophylla last November and I began to think it didn’t have a usable growth point . I put her in a chunky soil But nothing. About four weeks ago I put her fluval and five days ago noticed some growth she is now growing two very small but pretty dark leaves ones bigger than the other. Give fluval a try I might pop her in pon once the leaves are bigger and stronger, living in London I can’t put mine outside and am worried about bugs but I love love love most Hoya. Love the show
🫶✨🪴such a lovely collection. 🤔okay…Obovata, my best guess to your wonky leaves is watering, I have noticed if I water too soon between waterings(overwater) wonky leaves form. 🤞hope that helps. Your Hoya collection is so sweet!! Thanks for sharing!
Can’t you agree that our fire 🔥 has ignited with getting some new cool/rare plants recently , I swear I haven’t been this excited to add to my collection is a little white ❤
I am in love with the Obavato, compacta, Australis, and of course the queen! Right now I have a crimson queen and an young Australis that's just put out it's first new growth. I had a variegated compacta that got root rot and I'm trying to save as a cutting. I can't wait to get more Hoya and watch them grow, quickly became my favorite genius.
It was a real treat to see your hoyas. I had to smile when you got down to the last five as I remembered several of them from previoius videos. Then I made a bet with myself that your linearis would be #1 and wallah there she was in all her glory. She really is stunning!!
I was SO EXCITED when I saw this posted!!!! I’m so into Hoya right now. Your the best fern!!! Thanks for the amazing content as usual this didn’t disappoint 🤭♥️🪴
I have 30 + Hoyas and they grow like crazy when I put them outside for the summer. My other trick is to spray them with either a diluted orchid fertilizer or diluted SUPERthrive every week (okay, some weeks I forget and it may be every two weeks). Currently have new growth on most of my Hoyas in December. And I never water when they are inside until the leaves give me the sign. Hope this helps. ❤
Hoya are so hard for me because there are SO many to collect! I want to catch 'em all! lolol! Thanks for showing your gorgeous collection :) Next one on my list is is the Hoya Calycina Stargazer. The leaves are gloriously velvet and soft and lovely! ❤
Your hoyas are amazing and I just bought two hoyas online after watching this 😂 I have a variegated obovata and the leaves seem to enjoy growing weird and wonky so I think it might be an obovata thing in general. I found more light exposure stops the reverting back to plain green.
At one time I had several hoyas but I moved and a few of them didn’t like the new location. I didn’t catch them in time and lost a few of them. I still have the linear and the chelsea. Seeing your collection, I’m ready to start again. Thanks so much for the video. Very impressive!
I just added numbers 40 & 41 to my Hoya collection 2 days ago! You have some real beauties! I love all of mine but my bilobata has been blooming since May and currently has 16 peduncles, it’s ranking very high right now!
My Hoya kerrii verigated is growing in my greenhouse 59% shade cloth, in winter here in Sydney I need to wrap the greenhouse in plastic because the temp can get down to 0 degrees Celsius where it can experience cellular breakdown. Water when dry spring and summer three times a week and once a week in winter
Hi Fern 💫 I just received a Hoya Linearis I’ve been searching for one since the start of my Hoya journey. Mine is growing well, but I’m such a helicopter Mom because she’s definitely my favorite as well. Fingers crossed I can keep her happy. I did take a cutting and put it in Pon to try before I move the whole plant and kill it. I also got a cutting of Mathilde off Etsy and it came with a peduncle. I’ve never had a peduncle on any of mine so I’m super excited. I thoroughly enjoyed this video of all your Hoya. Enjoy the rest of your week. 🙏🏻💫
My Hoyas don’t grow inside hardly at all. I put them outside for the summer and they explode, even my Kerri that has NEVER put on a leaf inside my home.
For the Sunrise, you should try taking it outside throughout the summer next year, for some beautiful sunstressing! I have all my hoyas outside in shade for the summer months, they even get few hours of direct sunlight (until 9/9.30am) and they're all doing great! I also watched on video at @basieplants that the change of coloration usually happens when the night temperatures get lower. btw. beautiful collection, I watch your videos all the time and already knew about most of them. 🍀
Love watching your channel. Just curious… it seems like orchids and African violets are not collected by most of the plant community. Are these out of fashion or just a different niche?
I would suggest moving your Polyneura broget to a significantly smaller pot. They (like most Hoya) tend to start growing faster in smaller pots because they wait until the roots fill out the pot to start vining. I grow a lot of mine in 2-3" pots
Hey Fern I also had a polyneura that only had two leafs for a year and would sometimes put out a new one. I finally got it growing happy though. I changed the media to be a 70-30 mix of orchid bark and potting soil. Than started fertilizing with 20-20-20 200ppm Nitrogen. Hope it works out for you!!
My regular polyneura is the same way lol it’s roots grow so fast but the plant itself won’t grow more than the 6 leaves it has. Had it for over a year and all it does is get rootbound lol
Ok, so crazy amount of Hoyas, lucky lady! 😵💫🤩have to agree that philodendron is my top tier but Hoya is definitely super close second! ❤I have a little harder time with mine so my collection is way smaller; spending the summer outside has def helped 🪴☀️I do love linnearis-how could you not (especially yours😍), but multiflora is my favorite!!🌸💕thanks Fern!🐶🐾be well!🌿
Your chicken farm inspired me to get one and it is sooo beautiful! It's put out 3 gorgeous leaves this summer. I also got a crassipetiolata splash this summer that is putting out 2 leaves (was a 1 leaf cutting). I also got a baby linearis and showed it yours for inspiration lol.
Ok every time you showed the next Hoya in your top 10, I was like omg that’s my fav! Then you would show another and again I would say omg that’s my fav! How do you pick! It’s great to see the progress of your Hoyas, especially ones you’ve done chop/prop or removed from a trellis. Or your UT152, it’s great to see it bouncing back from before! For your krimson queen, I wonder if giving it fresh substrate would help encourage it to bloom. I don’t have Hoya care down pat but that’s the only thing I could think of. And absolutely yes please on the Hoya repot video!!
Ah true about the krimson queen - maybe she needs a soil upgrade! I just worry she'd go downhill if I mess with her lol. I think I will do so for next spring though... thanks for watching 💖
Yeah,I guessed your favorite would be the Hoya Linieras. My green compactor took such a long time to get going but once it did it wasn’t as slow! My guess is with variegated plants especially a Hoya compactor and variegated is that the variegation slows it down even more,I found that with my Hoya Kerii, the green one grows like crazy while the outer variegated is much, much slower, that’s my guess! Loved the long video Fern! 🪴🍃🍃🍃❤️ Natalie Edit* Also all my Hoya’s grow outdoors under bright light but I’m in South Australia so I don’t need to bring them indoors in winter!
The V. Kerrii.. so not just me. Idk if you saw my comment about foliar spray to grow roots, but this is the plant they grew crazy cat whisker roots in perlite after treating the cutting with Miracle Gro Orchid Foliage spray! Now I get to plant it up and watch it die all over again 😅
I just rescued a plant from the clearance rack at Walmart and it was waterlogged. I didn't know it was a hoya but it is actually Hoya curtisii. I'm so excited!
Don't give up on that two leaf polyneura ...mine was two leaves forever but has now taken off. I got a humidifier several months back and that helped a lot of my hoyas, which are my favorite plant. Your linearis is drop dead gorgeous and I will have to find your chop and prop video as I would like mine to be fuller. Also so happy your variegated heuschkeliana is growing so beautifully. Mine has not done much, but I am going to repot it in terra cotta do see if that gives it a boost. It has never been repotted so who knows? I need to go back to the beginning of the video to take notes on a planting medium you were talking about ...tree fern? I looked at the Planthaven Toronto site but didn't see anything that looked like it. Where did you get it? Great content! Would love to see a repotting video on the hoyas! Thank you
Holy Hoya, Batman! Your plants look so happy. I have one Hoya which I resurrected from an intense mealy bug infestation and just in the last two months it is growing like crazy.
How hot is it outside for your area? How often do you water? I'm in north central Texas and this summer it's been too hot for most outdoor plant life. Our temps have been mostly 106 -110F/41.1-43.3C #brutal 🥵

Or just chop and prop
Respectfully I don’t see how this is a bad thing lol

This this this!! Also they deform growth.
Yep! I was just going to say this. I'm treating all of my plants with sulfur right now 😕
I have noticed with my obovata that I get the wonky leaves when I am being inconsistent with watering. I get the nice round leaves when I'm watering better.
Im having such a dumpster fire of a day and this video is a straight up blessing 🙏🏽 Fave planty person and my fave genus, yes please 🥹
I had a whole heap of hoya babies that wouldnt grow so an old lady told me to put them outside in spring for a week or 2 and to give them shocks of water instead of regular watering.

I love the long videos! I look forward to your videos here and on your other channel, every week. Thank you lady 🫶🖤
Also, I love hoya. I almost want to get rid of all my other plants except my hoyas and my African violets 😅
When I’ve had difficulty with Hoyas starting, I found that bone meal usually gets them going 😊
Ohh good to know!
Fern, I don't know how I haven't discovered you until a few weeks ago, but I've binge-watched you so far :D. You showcasing your Hoyas has made me order some myself. I absolutely love looking at them!
She’s the absolute best!! 🤩💚
I had a few Hoyas that wouldn’t grow and I gave them a sulfur treatment 1x a week for a few weeks and now they’re growing like crazy!
I am going to try this.. ty :)
Same! Esp the ones that weren’t growing or they had knobby growth points, I noticed they started growing shortly after I sprayed them
I have the hoya kerrii albomarginata and I keep it successfully on a south-west windowsill, so it gets direct sun all afternoon, even now, during the summer.
It’s so fun and loving life.
you’ve gotten me into hoyas, they’re so pretty!!
Also that dress looks stunning on you!! 🌿🧡
Top!
@@ira7630 my bad hah! commented before watching the whole thing!
I just love the obovata. Most of mine are not round but oval. Sorry I don’t have tips just check for flatmites
This was A MOST EXCITING video! I appreciate your time and effort for 3 hours! I loved every minute!
I have to say Hoyas are definitely my favorite genus 💚 #hoyahead
You have such a cool collection :)
Edit * I LOVE your whole look in this video!!
Yes, please do a Hoya repot. I need to repot some of mine; I need the motivation 🙏🏼
Love my hoya linearis! I am going to go watch your chop and prop videos.
Your Mathilde has grown so beautifully. I bought one after seeing yours but she died. She came with another hoya that had some sort of disease. I will get another.
Hiya Fern I bought a 2 leaf Macrophylla last November and I began to think it didn’t have a usable growth point . I put her in a chunky soil
But nothing.
Love the show
*HOYA COLLECTION VIDEO...*
*I'M SO HERE FOR IT🍿❤🍿❤🍿❤🍿*
🫶✨🪴such a lovely collection.
Paint all cracks and crevasses with sulphur powder, dry. Don't mix with water. Light touch. Boom, new growth. Don't know why but it jump starts them.
It was a real treat to see your hoyas. I had to smile when you got down to the last five as I remembered several of them from previoius videos. Then I made a bet with myself that your linearis would be #1 and wallah there she was in all her glory. She really is stunning!!
Awe thank you so much for watching ☺️ glad you enjoyed!
I was SO EXCITED when I saw this posted!!!! I’m so into Hoya right now. Your the best fern!!! Thanks for the amazing content as usual this didn’t disappoint 🤭♥️🪴
They love to be in hanging basket in tree with dense foliage, outside with air sun and water,
I have 30 + Hoyas and they grow like crazy when I put them outside for the summer. ❤
Where are your acrylic trellises from? I love them! 😍
EPIC!! One of my all time favorite TH-cam videos ever 💚🪴 thank you 🥰
Hi Fern 💫 I just received a Hoya Linearis I’ve been searching for one since the start of my Hoya journey.
It was a in a tiny pot but was completely rooted and drying out sooo much 😢 so I had to move it to the 4”
Hi Fern! Beautiful hoyas. I agree that the krimson princess is so underrated! That Priktai is huge! ❤
Yes, embrace them and the personality that they bring to your home.
For all the plants that don’t grow for me, I put them in pon and blast them with light. Generally that jump starts them.
i knewwww linearis was gonna be no. 1!!! TYSM for blessing us with an hour long video !
Linearis is my absolute favorite I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find one. Yours is beautiful you should be proud.
The V. Kerrii.. so not just me.
Have you tried to feed them miracle grow orchid bloom liquid? To encourage flowers to bloom
Thank you
I can see why the linearis is your fave. Thanks for sharing Fern!
1000000/10 recommend putting the variegated compactas in perlite and inside a gallon ziploc! long live these beauties!!
Our temps have been mostly 106 -110F/41.1-43.3C #brutal 🥵
holy moly!!!!!!!! how big was your walliana ut 152 when you first got her??? I love your hoyas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the low variegation and growth issues, I'd say your plants need more light! Through up some stronger grow lights and it should help!
When number 35 is a GORGEOUS variegated Kerrii.. you know its gonna be a good video. 😎
