      different peperomia are different, but the ones with more fleshy stems like the watermelon are ridiculously prone to pythium/root rot. I use 1/3 each succulent mix, coco coir, and pine fines and it works for most of mine.

    • @luciansteph
      @luciansteph  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@luciansteph i got recommended pine fines to deal with root rot and it seems to work. root rot is actually cause by the microorganism pythium, and apparently soggy peat is its favorite place to live and it hates pine.

    Hi Stephanie, not a criticism as it’s an easy mistake to make, but the Pilea Peperomioides is not a Peperomia. Pilea is the genus.
    I’m totally with you on the Pink Princess and everything similar to it. The Dark Lord, the Painted Lady, etc. All the same issues and so frustrating. I may throw them in a prop box like you did but as they are now, they’re a mess. I hear they get better as they get bigger. Maybe once they get to cataphyll growth?

    I agree totally with peperomia. I have two dead ones sitting on my plant room floor right now. This was my third try, not doing it again! I have a mini monstera that I chopped into 3 equal-ish pieces after a summer's growth from a 1ft plant to a 4ft plant. I didn't have a moss pole, and I had to bring it in for the winter. (This was last year.) Last spring, I put it on a moss pole and put it back out for the summer. It loved being on a pole. It is now about 5ft. It dropped a few leaves when we went away for a long weekend a couple of months ago, and I was worried. But I moved it into my dining room where it gets more light, and put on a low plant stand to get it off the floor. It is doing great now.

    I seriously love my Rhap. tetrasperma. It’s growing well for me and I’m even getting the inner fenestration holes now. It’ll probably need a repot in the spring.
    Now, my Peperomias on the other hand… I’ve already killed my P. russo through root rot. My P. obtusifolia’s are now showing signs of distress. I almost lost my String of Turtles but it bounced back when I moved it to terracotta. I’ll probably do the same with the others.

    About the mini monstera mine it was like yours But when I took it outside it grows and grows. It needs more light than what you are providing. For me I guess in winter I won’t fret give it minimal water cause it doesn’t put out leaves. Avoid rotting that way and just wait. Hope this helps

    I've been having similar problems with my mini monstera, I'm glad I'm not alone. Initially seemed to settle in well, it was getting new leaves easily and I gave it some water a couple of days earlier than I normally would on one occasion because I had a busy schedule few days ahead and then it started dropping leaves. I thought it would settle, but it seemed to go on and on. Really started thinking there might be some root rot issues or perhaps even though there had been no sign of it maybe even a pest issue. With this being on my mind possibly the worse thing I could have done was check the roots, change the soil and repot. Now its still pushing out new leaves, but yet continuing to lose leaves faster it is replacing with new ones. I'm starting to think the issue might even be the summer we are having here. In April the weather was good, June and July has despite the longer days been wetter, darker, and grey skies. Whatever the reason, it's proven to be quite a finickity character.

    • @luciansteph
      @luciansteph  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% YES! The exact thing happened to me. Growing but losing leaves. Great grower but unforgiving and easy to rot. Sorry that happened to you. If the bare spots bother you, you’d have to restart. I put mine in a self watering pot and now I don’t have to worry about watering it. 😅

    I’ve had the R. tetrasperma about 3 months now. I live in the Northeast US. Mine is sitting in an East window that gets light all day when the sun is up. I bottom water, which makes it more difficult to overwater. It’s growing like crazy, think at least 2 leaves per week. Maybe yours would like some direct light that’s not harsh? Although it’s in a South window, it’s still very shaded.

    • @luciansteph
      @luciansteph  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An east facing window would be perfect. Direct light but not too much. Wish I had one. You have no idea how many times I've contemplated adding windows to the east side of my home hehe. You're right, I may have to move it... Where? idk yet. Stay tuned.
