i don’t think he meant anything by saying “real job,” it’s no secret chess doesn’t make much. I make more than most grandmasters that’s not bragging that’s just being real. If you’re not top 20 in chess it’s hard to pay the bills.
Hopefully the increase in popularity in the States will bring in more private funding, and hopefully that will grow the game more. If someone can make the rapid matches more TV friendly, that could potentially bring in a ton of corporate sponsors.

They were unable to retain Hou Yifan, the forced Ding Liren to play in the middle of a pandemic that was destroying his country and he went down just to keep the championship fully European and we have the ridicule that the world championship was, with a game level that will be painful to international masters. They are pretty traditional. The fact that they invited Nakamura could be a sing of the things to come, but I will not be holding my breath 😂

Dina has one of the best interviewing styles, truth be told. Mostly focused on the memes and the meta, but never too hesitant to ask a game-based question. Good on her, looking forward to seeing her take on more such roles!
Maybe it’s just me but I actually find her very awkward and stiff, yes it’s fresher and doesn’t seem as serious which is also good for the chess players that are already exhausted from the match but… most of these questions seem irrelevant… to each their own tho I suppose

I'm not here to overall criticize because I actually love the interviewer but the thing that could make this perfect in my mind would be if she was able to ask these questions off the top of the head, instead of reading them from the phone. I think that would make the flow of these interviews better.

If Hikaru stopped making appearances at these tournaments then I'd probably be less interested in his streams. Top players playing other top players is way more entertaining than streaming.
@@sandrinjoy You just described chess in 75% of all pro games that get played. On any given day in any given tournament, look at the standings for the day and I guarantee you will see an 80/20 split between draws and decisive results.

In speed and blitz games not as much. What you often see in classical tournaments today is you will see a series of draws and then when someone finally wins a match, the loser takes more chances and that’s when you begin to get games that end in other than a draw.
