Chet Baker was probably the greatest example of someone who could only play music by feel. He never practiced on Trumpet and he couldn't read or write music but he was nothing short of stellar.

Hey man just want to say great job here. You have very nice philosophical articulation. I like that you gave the most positive interpretation for both players. I really enjoyed how you differentiated the elements of the main claim. Very well done sir.

A guy from the Audio Engineering course I did in 1987 could play every part from every AC/DC album, and most of the Pink Floyd parts too, but definitely the guitar parts. He could play full albums note for note, and he taught me the bass lines to many songs. Yet get him at a jam, and play a 12 bar blues, and he's lost!

Explaining a blues pattern turn around or 1,4,5 is not a bass lesson. It's simply a share of hammered out information. Like these are the directions to Guitar Center. Or here's how you turn on the lights in this place. You got it once and then you move on from there. I was certainly gigging in a heavy rock band for a while before I understood "the blues". But I'm sure Geddy was like... So that's what you call it. He had already certainly been playing Rock blues patterns already.

Why not? Being good at something doesn't mean you stop listening to others.

The only bass lesson Gene could give Geddy is whether to use the Texas Rig or the Carolina Rig.

Gene Simmons has no busyness giving anyone bass lessons. Maybe he could give advise on how to put on a show that I would never pay to attend

Gene can play the bass. KISS bass lines don’t suck. I’m not surprised.

Geddy has ALWAYS been a better bass player than Gene. Geddy plays lines , Gene plays roots along to the chords, big difference. Gene is a Businessman. Geddy is a Musician. They Got the Hook though.

Ive played Guitar for many many years, and even guys that I can play circles around....I can still find little things they do that I can learn , use, and incorporate into my playing.....I believe this is all Gene was getting at....also Gene had at that time been playing for awhile longer than GL

Gene Simmons giving Geddy Lee a bass lesson is the same as a trumpet player giving Neil Peart a drum lesson, it doesn't make sense!! Gene is not the example of a bass player someone should take lessons from.
